[[folder:The New Crew]]
!!Lord Waxillium "Wax" Ladrian

The main character of the book. Wax was formally a lawkeeper in the Roughs, but after he accidentally killed his wife, he returned to the city. Due to his uncle's untimely death, he becomes the head of the Ladrian House. However, due to the crime wave in Elendel, he takes up his guns and prepares to fight crime once again.
----
* AllYourPowersCombined: As a Twinborn, he has one Allomancy power and one Feruchemy power.
* {{Badass}}
** BadassLongcoat: His mistcoat.
** HeartbrokenBadass: For most of the story.
* FamousAncestor: He's a direct descendant of Lord Ladrian - better known to us as ''Breeze'' - and, presumably, Allrianne Cett, from the original trilogy.
* GuileHero: Wax is not only an excellent gun fighter, he also has a keen mind for putting together evidence and figuring out motives.
* GunsAkimbo: In several scenes in the book. Including once with ''shotguns''.
* HeroProtagonist: Helps people because he genuinely wants to do the right thing. Though he does mention that he got into the business because he needed the money.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: His confrontation with Bloody Tan in the beginning ends with Lessie's accidental death.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: [[spoiler: Near the end, he has to shoot his own bullet mid-flight to change it's trajectory and hit an enemy hiding behind a hostage. He gets a headshot]].
* NotQuiteFlight: Wax often uses the combination of his steel pushing allomancy and weight manipulation Feruchemy to soar great distances.
* OneManArmy: During the wedding, he kills 19 heavily armed mooks by himself without any innocent bystanders being killed. In the climax, [[spoiler:Miles]] states explicitly that he's wasted as anything but a killer, because he's just ''that'' good.
* SherlockScan: Though not quite as adept as the TropeNamer, he still comes up with some amazing conclusions with little evidence, although his skill is subverted when Marasi is invited into the lab: "You realize I spent all night coming to those conclusions? You just reached them in all of . . . what? Ten minutes?"
** Marasi does point out that [[JustifiedTrope Wax is sleep deprived, and would likely have come up with it just as fast if he weren't]].
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Wayne.

!!Wayne

Waxillium's partner in crime. Okay, not really in crime since they're lawkeepers. After Wax heads to the city to take over House Ladrian, Wayne follows him there. Once he arrives, he continues to provide Wax with staunch support.
----
* AllYourPowersCombined: As a Twinborn, he has one Allomancy power and one Feruchemy power.
* AmazonChaser: Wayne admits to Marasi that he prefers the kind of woman who can kick his ass, and he takes quite a liking to Ranette, precisely because she's apparently shot him repeatedly. She rebuffs his advances.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler: Wayne accidentally killed a man in his early thieving days. Wax saved him from the hangman's noose, and Wayne has been helping him fight crime since. Wayne sends half of what he makes to the family of the man he killed.]]
* BavarianFireDrill: By using the right clothes and attitude he can manipulate nearly anyone into helping him.
%%* ChivalrousPervert
* CloudCuckooLander: Has rather... [[InsaneTrollLogic odd]]... ways of thinking. And mild kleptomania.
* DisguisedInDrag: At one point, he impersonates an old woman.
* DoesNotLikeGuns: With good reason, according to his BackStory.
* DuelBoss: One of the two ways his TimeStandsStill ability is used in combat.
* DullSurprise: Used when [[spoiler:Tillaume]] tries to kill Wax.
--> '''Wayne:''' Huh, [[spoiler:tea's poisoned]].
* FlashStep: The other of the two ways.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: Wayne suffers from lots of injuries throughout the book. Enough that he would have been dead several times over if not for his Bloodmaker powers.
* HealingFactor: He has to store up health for later, but it comes in quite handy.
* HeelFaceTurn: Years and years before the story starts, he was a petty thief Wax saved from the hangman's noose.
%%* HiddenDepths
* InsaneTrollLogic: "I bought a ward against [logic] off a traveling fortune-teller. It lets me add two 'n' two and get a pickle."
* MasterOfDisguise: He is great at disguises. In fact, he could have easily been a professional actor.
* NiceHat: He certainly thinks so, he's not happy when it gets stolen.
* NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent: Inverted. According to Wayne, the right accent is the most important part of a disguise.
** Although he does drop the accent on purpose when he ''wants'' to be exposed.
* ReformedCriminal
* StickyFingers: Seems to be a clinical kleptomaniac, generally leaves objects of roughly the same value as a "trade" for the things he steals. Or what he thinks is the same value. He often leaves things mostly-worthless to others in exchange for the item. Later, near the end of the book, he leaves an aluminum bullet, worth more than its weight in gold, in exchange for a minor item. Wax is quick to realize that, ironically, the person receiving the bullet won't know it's value and likely throw it away.
* TimeStandsStill: Can create a bubble around him where everything inside moves faster than what's outside. There are a lot of limitations to it, but he does pretty good given those limits. It's not quite stopping the outside, but it's close.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Waxillium.

!!Marasi Colms

The cousin of Steris Harms, Marasi teams up with Wax when he saves her from a kidnapping attempt by the Vanishers. Her knowledge of criminals is a great help in figuring out the plans of their foes.
----
* ActionGirl: Zigzagged. She's a good shot with a rifle, [[RealityEnsues but that doesn't make her a fighter.]]
* AwesomeByAnalysis: She frequently quotes crime statistics and uses the conclusions drawn to help with the situation.
* BadassBookworm: She's in her university's gun club. The skills she learned there with a rifle are quite useful in the book.
* HeroicBastard: [[spoiler:She's actually Steris's illegitimate half-sister.]]
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Once she meets up with her idol, Wax.
%%* TheSmartGuy
* TimeStandsStill: Inverted: She can make herself, and the room around her, move very slowly compared to the outside world. She (and [[spoiler:her father]]), don't think it's a very useful ability.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: Finds this driven home after seeing how Wayne makes such good use of his opposite power. [[spoiler:She still makes good use of it in the climax]].
[[/folder]]

----

[[folder:Allies]]
!!Ranette

A gunsmith ally of Wax's who hates Wayne. Also a lurcher.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: Early in the story, Wax notes that his guns were made by Ranette, and that she's in town. Slightly later, Wayne tells Wax Ranette's exact address. It comes as no surprise that they pay her a visit before the story's end.
* MundaneUtility: She uses her Lurcher abilities to help her smith weapons by pulling tools off walls. She's even got levers set up in her house to open doors with Ironpulls so she can walk around with her hands full.
* TheUltimateBlacksmith: Of the gunsmithing variety.
* WordOfGay: Sanderson said prior to the book's release that there would be a lesbian character. Afterwards fans guessed it was Ranette and Peter, Brandon's assistant confirmed it.
* WrenchWench: She's a master gunsmith.

!!Tillaume

The Ladrian family butler.
----
* EvilAllAlong: Revealed very shortly before his death.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Tea, in all of its varieties.
* TheButlerDidIt: [[spoiler:If he had succeeded at his plan, this would have been true.]]
* TheMole: For Mister Suit.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:After he's revealed as TheMole he attempts this.]]

[[folder:Elendel]]
!!Steris Harms

Wax's fiance in an arranged marriage to bring House Ladrian closer to House Harms. Kidnapped by the Vanishers early on, causing Wax, Wayne, and Marasi to set out to rescue her.
----
* AlphaBitch: What she initially appears to be.
* DefrostingTheIceQueen: She's very analytical and brusque with how she treats Wax, but she warms up to him [[spoiler:after he rescues her from the Vanishers]].
* DistressedDamsel: Her kidnapping kicks off the main plot.
* {{Fetish}}: When Wax [[spoiler:rescues her and launches them both into the air with Allomancy]] he realizes that Steris is aroused by it.
* GenreSavvy: A preview reading of the sequel reveals her to be this, as she is aware that ''something'' is bound to go wrong during her wedding with Wax, so she decides to ''invite'' someone (or someones) with a grudge against him so there isn't as big of a chance of something major happening that they didn't plan for.
* HiddenDepths: See GenreSavvy. WordOfGod is that the sequel well flesh out her character a bit more.
* NoSocialSkills: By her own admission.
* YourCheatingHeart: Doesn't seem to see anything wrong with Wax having a mistress or two.

!!Lord Harms
* HiddenDepths: He's not as bad as Steris. In fact, she's more in charge than he is.
* {{Jerkass}}: At first, until Steris is kidnapped.
* YourCheatingHeart: He had Marasi with a mistress, and Steris knows it.

!!Constable Brettin

An Elendel constable who heads up the octant where most of the first book's action takes place.

The villain of the prologue. He's killed quite a few people by the time Wax has reached him, and rants about [[DontFearTheReaper Ironeyes]].

This includes jumping from a high building [[NotTheFallThatKillsYou and instantly reknitting his bones upon contact with the ground]], and detonating dynamite [[ActionBomb in his own hand]] to try to kill people.
* HealingFactor: [[spoiler:Due to his ability to Allomantically burn his Feruchemical stores of health, he has a truly ridiculous one. * TheHeavy: He's the main villain of ''The Alloy of Law''. Though Mr. Suit/[[spoiler:Edwarn Ladrian]] is the ultimate string-puller, The Masked Man is the one the protagonists are most concerned about dealing with.
* HonorBeforeReason: Or so he claims. His actions don't quite match up with that.
* ImplacableMan: [[spoiler:Because he's Miles Dagouter.]]
* JumpedOffTheSlipperySlope: [[spoiler:Became a criminal because being a lawman didn't stop criminals from existing.]]

But what makes it particularly impressive is that [[spoiler:they stripped him of his goldminds first]], meaning that [[spoiler:he survived getting shot dozens of times at once, repeatedly, five times, ''using only his remaining reserves of ingested gold'']].
* ShadowArchetype: To [[spoiler:Waxillium]]. Both of them are aware of it, too.

!!Tarson

A koloss-blooded peterarm who is one of the top enforcers of the gang.

Hi, I'm Steris, and I'll have you know we do things in a certain way here on my character page. All my tropes will be in alphabetical order. Anyway, I was engaged to Waxillium Ladrian, who is much older than me. (Not that I'm complaining. It's a political marriage.) I got kidnapped by the Vanishers during a wedding. That's what we young ladies do. We get kidnapped.
