* StillWearingTheOldColors: In spite of losing their jobs towards the end of Gray Manns war on Mann Co., most of the mercs are still wearing their RED uniforms after they've been hired somewhere else or moved on with their lives. Spy owns other clothes but soon goes back to his red suit and Heavy gets his vest and red uniform after joining the team again, while others like Soldier and Pyro literally never took off their fatigues, suit and grenades in spite of working mundane non-combat jobs.

%%* StylisticSuck: While definitely not in regards to the series art direction, the accents and voiceovers that the mercs speak with are incredibly stereotypical, goofy and over-the-top and sometimes outright inaccurate compared to the actual accent that the nationality belongs to (Ex. Scouts Boston accent sounding closer to one from Brooklyn, Medics semi-regular misuse of German words, Demomans exaggerated Scottish accent, etc.). This was done intentionally by the developers to help with the games comedic international spy-thriller tone, on top of making the already distinct classes even easier to identify.

On the fence of this as a trope, as the voice acting for the main cast isn’t really meant to be completely accurate over being funny and distinct

* SoreLoser: Everyone has something demeaning to say to the whole team if Sudden Death is issued, [[NeverMyFault never blaming themselves]], and vent with seething anger. In their humiliation poses, everyone has a comically meek surrender pose, and in the case of Spy and Pyro, outright ''shameful'' expressions for the loss.

** Mann Co is specifically stated to automatically hire the lowest bidder regardless of ability; this is especially obvious in the case in the case of Soldier who is depicted as either homeless or a squatter, and Sniper lives in a camper van. On the other end of the scale, Demo lives in a mansion, Medic has access to expensive medical equipment and black market organs, and Spy drives a Ferrari and spends thousands of dollars on his suits alone - but they would still be the lowest bidder for their classes.

The Support Classes page was deleted a while back due to its redundancy, but the other class category pages had yet to follow suit.

* VillainProtagonist: The comics show the civilians of Teufort see them as destructive maniacs, and it's hard to argue with them. [[spoiler:To the point that they quickly put Scout and Spy on death row once they're finally caught in "Ring of Fired.", fair trial be damned.]]

[[spoiler:To the point that they quickly put Scout and Spy on death row once they're finally caught in "Ring of Fired.", fair trial be damned.]]]] Saxton Hale also claims that at least some of the mercs are sex offenders, though this might be explained by Soldier's habit of fighting naked in public.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Older material from the games life tried to make a slight distinction between the RED and BLUE mercs in personalities and experiences, with the BLU Soldier being a paranoid nut living in an apartment-turned-bunker (and friends with the RED Demoman) and the RED Soldier being a looney homeless idiot who hung out with a wizard (later BLU Soldiers past with Demo was merged with the RED Soldier). The BLU Spy has a slightly higher pitched voiced compared to the RED Spys' deeper and gravellier voice in ''Meet the Spy'', the BLU Scout went to court with the BLU Soldier as his lawyer (this event was later merged with their RED counterparts), RED and BLU mercs joining forces to fight robots until it was eventually only RED team waging war, and so on until, for the sake of convenience, there was only ''one'' Team Fortress (2) who experienced almost all of this - the RED team starting from ''Ring of Fired''.

* AffablyEvil: Or FauxAffablyEvil, which is [[ProtagonistCenteredMorality entirely dependent on whether or not you're on The nicer mercs are perfectly pleasant people off (or even on) the winning side.]]battlefield but are violent and remorseless mass murderers as their day job.

* AntiHero: Almost universally NobleDemon / NominalHero (With the exception of the [[MadScientist Medic]] ). The Mercs are by large violently murderous and property destroying, but they genuinely care about their families and friends, try to avoid implicating civilians in the Gravel Wars, and are universally shown to be much better than either their employers (Who they have no allegiance to, and simply perform the jobs for money.) or the truly repulsive Gray Mann and TFC team. Soldier and Pyro in particular would qualify as [[TragicVillain tragic villains]], considering their ''very'' severe mental illness if the game didn't entirely have it be PlayedForLaughs.
* AntiVillain: Ditto with everything above; The mercs might often be violent and/or crazy, but they do have people they care about, and everything they do is because they're paid to do so.

dewicked Nice Hat example

* NiceHat: Many of the unlockables qualify for this.
** Valve likes to describe the genre of the game as hat simulation.
