* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: He manipulated Silver's desire to fix his timeline into trying to kill Sonic and anticipated the likelihood that Silver will end up not going through with it, so he recovered one of the Chaos Emeralds and proceeded to use it to distract Sonic and Elise while he inflicts the coup de grace. [[spoiler:Even afterwards, as Solaris, he had several rifts scattered throughout what's left of the world in order to stop the heroes from recovering the Chaos Emeralds and reviving Sonic.]]

* OutsideGenreFoe: Witchcart is more like a villain out of a fairy tale than the supervillain level threat Eggman posed; she was the first antagonist in the series to directly use magic instead of just robots to accomplish her goals, predating [[KnightOfCerebus the more significant use of this kind of threat]] with [[PhysicalGod Chaos]] in VideoGame/SonicAdventure. Most notable is that her use of magic does ''not'' involve the use of the Chaos Emeralds, which are completely absent from ''Tails Skypatrol''.

* OutsideGenreFoe: Whereas Eggman relied on machinery and simply intended to use the Chaos Emeralds as a means to an end, Chaos was the first major villain in the series to rely purely on supernatural powers to achieve his goals, and unlike the [[TakeOverTheWorld one-shaded goals of]] [[CardCarryingVillain Eggman]], Chaos is driven by a vengeful rage to use his power to destroy the entire planet. Even Eggman is left at his mercy when he reaches his full power as Perfect Chaos. * PuzzleBoss: Chaos 6. When fought with Sonic and Knuckles, he has to be frozen before you can even attack him, while due to Big's version of the Chaos 6 battle can either be ended in under 10 seconds or be a ''long'' drawn-out struggle with rarely any chance to attack.
* SealedEvilInACan: He was sealed in the Master Emerald by Tikal for thousands of years due to him going berserk, only to be freed by Dr. Eggman when he shatters the Master Emerald. It should be noted however that he isn't actually evil--just angry and vengeful.

-->Shadow's creator and Eggman and Maria's late grandfather. 50 Years before the events of VideoGame/SonicAdventure2, his granddaughter was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Gerald desperately tried to find a cure, which prompted the start of ''Project: Shadow'' and his research into immortality. The government however got suspicious of Gerald's motivations and ordered the project to be shutdown, with Maria being among those who died in the raid. Gerald snapped and swore revenge on humanity, and his plan would come to fruition for those who sought to unleashed Shadow.

The two components that make up the being known as Solaris. Mephiles represents its intelligence, and Iblis, its raw power. Sometime before the events of ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'', Solaris was experimented on by the Duke of Soleanna, but an accident separated the entity into its two components. Mephiles was sealed in the Scepter of Darkness by Shadow, and Iblis was sealed by Silver in the young Princess Elise.

* NotSoDifferent: He is in a way a darker version of Shadow's ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2'' personality. Both are chessmasters that played the desires of another to follow suit to their plans (Shadow to Eggman, Mephiles to Silver). Both desired revenge on humanity (especially those that experimented on them), though for Mephiles revenge was only a side-motive. Both have planet-sized egos. And both nearly succeeded. Shadow's plan only failed because he decided he didn't want to go through with it; Mephiles' plan actually WORKED and the heroes had to really struggle to undo it.

* OutsideContextVillain: Witchcart is more like a villain out of a fairy tale than the supervillain level threat Eggman posed; she was the first antagonist in the series to directly use magic instead of just robots to accomplish her goals, predating [[KnightOfCerebus the more significant use of this kind of threat]] with [[PhysicalGod Chaos]] in VideoGame/SonicAdventure.
