** That being said, Zangoose's Immunity ability is a reference to how real life mongooses are immune to the venom of a cobra, due to having an altered type neurotransmitter that blocks poison.

* AscendedExtra: A secret event in Sun and Moon (where they are only acquirable via OldSaveBonus) hints that they may have been the source of the O-Powers from Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and X and Y.

** DemotedToExtra: Then again, in certain regions of the world, some actually consider Deoxys' "specialness" as an event only rarity was diminished by this surprise inclusion. However, even those people usually agree that Episode Delta's climax scene is awesome.

Since Tapu Village is in ruins by the time you reach it, it likely also appeared before the residents there to warn of the village's impending destruction.

* GlassCannon: It has a very high Attack, Swords Dance, an ability that increases its critical rate on top of having a load of moves that have high crit rates naturally, but has mediocre Speed and horrible Defenses.

* PerpetualSmiler: As of Gen VI, Absol's model is constantly smiling, which is odd because it's a species with a tragic backstory and it's leery of humans. Can also be a SmugSmiler or a StepfordSmiler. Of course, playing with it on Amie makes it all the sweeter with Absol's cheerful reactions.

* RedEyesTakeWarning: Latios downplays this, as he has red eyes, but is docile instead of violent in temperament. However he can still be a dangerous enemy if one provokes him.

* BerserkButton: You can pet Deoxys anywhere in Pokémon Amie... but the moment you touch its crystal it gives you a DeathGlare. If you continue to touch it, it enters a battle stance, as if it's about to attack you directly. Most Pokémon just try to push you away!

* HotSkittyOnWailordAction: ...The other half of the trope namer. Despite being one of largest Pokémon in existence at 47 feet long/tall, Wailord is able to breed with anything in the Field egg group (as this includes Pokemon based on mammals, which whales are) including Skitty or the even smaller Diglett.

* Foil: Gains an odd one in Generation VII in the form of Pelipper. Both get new abilities to empower them in battle, both these abilities change the weather (Drizzle for Pelipper and Drought for Torkoal), and both, as always, are tank Pokemon. The first time you run into Torkoal is a route away from when you first run into Pelipper, as well. (Provided you didn't evolve a Wingull.)

* LethalJokeCharacter: Has Pun evolved into this lately. Spinda used to be utterly worthless and treated as no more than the butt of jokes whenever people talk about weak pokemons... until someone discovered its potential with Contrary and Skill Swap shenanigans. With this combo, Spinda could pass Contrary to a teammate (most commonly Arcanine or Mega Pinsir), and if the said teammate has moves that would have debuffed the user upon use... well, a TotalPartyKill will be an inevitable result.

* KryptoniteIsEverywhere: They have a whopping seven weaknesses (Water, Grass, Ground, Steel, Dark, Bug, and Ghost). Although Levitate removes one of them, that's still a lot. Unlike other Pokemon with other seven weaknesses, they don't have any natural resistances, though thankfully they don't have a double weakness like them.

* UselessUsefulSpell: Zig-Zagged. You know Prankster, that awesome ability Banette gets when it Mega Evolves that compliments its insane support movepool? In this case, it doesn't work when Banette takes a turn to mega-evolve because turn order is decided before it can use Prankster. Outright averted starting in PokemonSunAndMoon thanks to Mega Evolution changes.
* VoodooDoll: Though the animation for all Ghost-Types using curse shows a pin being jammed through the Pokemon, Banette is the only one explicitly said to curse others via this method.

* BellyMouth: Dusknoir - a glaring frown on the front, and a gentle smile on the back, though only the front side has been seen opening up. Presumably this is how it carries spirits, though Pokemon-Amie shows it can also eat through it.

* CombiningMecha: The Pokedex claims that both Beldum and Metang evolve by having two combine themselves. Mega Metagross, on the other hand, appears to have fused with a third Metang and two more Beldum. Though one wonders where the second Beldum or Metang came from when the one the player owns evolves.

* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Its Pokedex entries state that they evolve by combining with each other, but this doesn't happen in the game itself. The one time a Beldum was shown evolving in the anime, it made a copy of itself mid-evolution, which it then combined with.

** The awakening of either one of the duo constitutes an apocalyptic event and is entirely capable of wiping out humanity and the majority of Pokémon species. Ironically, Kyogre's Ruby Pokedex entry states that it was a savior to drought-affected municipalities, as was Groudon to flooded areas according to Sapphire.

** Grass Knot is a move that works by tripping an opponent with a clump of grass; the heavier the target, the more damage it takes. Normal Groudon has the misfortune of being a)weak to grass moves and b)the heaviest Pokemon there is, which can lead to some embarassing defeats.

* BizarreAlienBiology: If you try to feed it in Pokémon Amié/Refresh, it doesn't respond if you hold it to its head. Move it down to its arms, and it'll eat with those instead!

* NoMouth: Its face is completely without a mouth. In fact, it doesn't even have an "invisible" one like some other Pokémon -- it uses its tentacles to eat.
