%%* OvershadowedByAwesome: The line suffered this from Gen IV onwards, with the introduction of fellow Dragon/Ground-type Garchomp. Garchomp happens to be a pseudo-legendary and has better stats than Flygon in all but Special Attack (which neither have much use for anyway) as well as a Mega-Evolution, which can boost said stats even further. While Flygon is still perfectly usable and has some minor niches in [[StatusBuff Dragon Dance]] and the powerful Boomburst, Garchomp is usually considered a better choice overall.

* MagikarpPower: Trapinch hits like a truck, but it is fragile and VERY slow. When it first evolves, its speed becomes average, but at the cost of its huge attack becoming average as well, and gains virtually no bulk. When it evolves again, however, it is a different story.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Unlike the many "secret third sibling" Legendaries that would come after it, Rayquaza wasn't given ''any'' Forme changes in its spotlight game/generation. It did get a Mega Evolution in ''Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire'', but it can't be kept outside of battle like Origin Forme Giratina or Black/White Kyurem.
