* SurprisinglyGoodForeignLanguage: Due to studying abroad as a child and becoming very invested in music, he knows a few other languages pretty well, notably French and German.

* SurprisinglyGoodForeignLanguage: Converses in Japanese perfectly fine in the anime/manga with people who aren't Elise and Chiaki (with them he speaks German), for no particular reason.

* DisappearedDad: Although not gone entirely, Chiaki's father prioritized his career over his family, leading to the divorce of his parents and moving to Japan with his mother. Chiaki refuses to be seen in his father's shadow refuses to be near him, to the point that he immediately stops wanting to go to Prague when he hears the news that his father has also relocated there and decides to move to Paris instead.

* SoProudOfYou: This is his attitude when he finds out from Jean that Chiaki, whom he hasn't heard from in years, is a finalist in the conducting competition. He also clearly shows his happiness and admiration for Chiaki's achievements when the two finally reunite.
