* BerserkButton: Doesn't matter if you're a superpowered fallen god. She will kick your ass if you threaten her family.

* ClusterFBomb / [[SirSwearsALot Lady Swears-a-Lot]]: Seems awfully fond of the word 'fuck.' Which is surprising, considering that it's not a word the series likes to use too often. In fact, Cassie swears more in the one game than there has been in the series so far.

* GoKartingWithBowser: She's apparently friends with other ''Mortal Kombat'' characters on a social media website called [[MythologyGag "Friendships"]] (including some enemies like Quan Chi, Kano, and Mileena), which you can see if you perform her second fatality (where she uploads a selfie of herself and her victim). Some kombatants even chime in with comments on the feed, up to and including ''her victim''. And [[CreatorCameo Ed Boon]] as well. Sonya in particular will ask her about why she has Kano on her friends list.

* FanDisservice: Most of the women in the series (Kitana, Sonya, Jade, Sindel etc) are smoking hot, whereas D'Vorah, with her compound eyes, grotesque insectoid limbs and horned shoulders, is chillingly creepy, despite her curvaceous silhouette.

* ButterFace: Not nearly as nightmarish as Mileena, [[http://shoryuken.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/mkx-unmasked-erronblack-2-750.jpg but for some reason none of his costumes are maskless]].

* CombatPragmatist: Erron Black's moveset shows that he has no qualms whatsoever about shooting his opponent right in the face, sometimes ''[[UpToEleven multiple times in succession at point blank range]]''. [[MadeOfIron This is usually not lethal]], except in fatalities and brutalities, where his guns suddenly start leaving fist-sized holes with every shot.

* NobleDemon: To a certain extent. While his morality is questionable and he is driven by {{greed}}, he is willing to spare and negotiate with opposing parties if it is of his interest. When he isn't being a {{troll}}, in combat he assures that he is OnlyInItForTheMoney and that it isn't anything personal, unless they press a BerserkButton.

* {{Expy}}: Though they share visual similarity to Master Blaster from ''Film/MadMaxBeyondThunderdome'', this is averted in every other aspect of the character. Of course, this doesn't stop Johnny Cage from calling them "Master Blaster" in one intro.
** For a closer similarity, look to how Rocket and Groot team up in ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy''.

* TogetherInDeath: Subverted. The developers felt that performing fatalities on Ferra would feel very uncomfortable due to her child-like posture. Hence, she simply remains writhing in pain/runs away scott-free as the other fighter performs a Fatality on Torr. This is assuming that she and Torr can live without the other, otherwise this trope is very much played straight when Torr is killed.

* PowerFist: In addition to being a pair of {{Arm Cannon}}s, her gauntlets also make her capable of putting a fist-sized hole in someone's head with a strong enough punch.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: A Special Forces team wanted to build a working robot [[CyberNinja ninja]] they obtained from the Lin Kuei files, so they decided to use the data storage housing the physical and mental files for Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke and [[spoiler:Cyber Sub-Zero, into the cybernetic body that Sub-Zero briefly inhabited before being converted into a revenant. Upon activation, the AI [[AIIsACrapshoot suddenly became aware]] (possibly because Special Forces used four data files instead of one, corrupting the robot and making it go unstable), killing all humans in the lab, before vowing to restore the Lin Kuei to its old glory. But since Sub-Zero had sullied the Lin Kuei name, the robot, now calling itself "Triborg", [[StartMyOwn forms the Tekunin]] by saving the brainwave data of his fellow Lin Kuei onto the S-F servers and uses the S-F's resources to create new robotic bodies for them; it's also possible that he may have also [[UnwillingRoboticization converted the dead humans in S-F lab into robots]]. With an army of robot ninjas at his disposal, Triborg vows to forcibly convert many of the kombatants into cyborgs.]]

* NothingPersonal: As he's OnlyInItForTheMoney, in some intros he tells his opponent that it's nothing personal, only money. Sometimes he gives his opponent a friendly warning before they fight, and if he wins a round he even offers that he would stop if they pay him. [[BerserkButton Insulting him would make sure he makes it personal]], however.

** In the same vein as "Yautja", the "Hish-Qu-Ten" variation is named after what later authors called the species in an unrelated expanded universe that started with [[https://www.darkhorse.com/Books/10-772/Predator-Forever-Midnight-Novel Predator: Forever Midnight]]. Given the relative obscurity said rebooted universe received, it's a surprise that said name makes an appearance.

* ArtEvolution: In the preview trailer, the Chestburster that emerges from Baraka looks like a normal human-spawned Chestburster. In the game, Chestbursters spawned from Mileena and an enemy Alien will have large fangs and facial spikes inherited from their host's Tarkatan DNA.

** The reason it appears different from the classic Xenomorph: it has assimilated the DNA of a its host, an unfortunate Tarkatan warrior.

** The Queen that appears in its Fatality has Tarkatan-style fangs and - more egregiously - is missing her secondary pair of arms. This is bizarre since the Queen that shows up in the Arcade ending cutscene illustration has four arms. The ending mentions that the hive was made from the Outworld's various races, and a dead Shokan is pinned to the wall behind the Queen and other 4-armed xenomorphs.

* UnexpectedCharacter: While a lot of players at least expected Smoke reappearing as DLC, if not all the robots, many were not expecting [[spoiler:Cyber Sub-Zero]] to be included.

* UnexpectedCharacter: Due to being extraterrestrial in nature, rather than supernatural, his inclusion on the roster was very surprising.

* UnexpectedCharacter: Double subverted and downplayed. While the Xenomorph was expected, nobody expected it to be a ''Tarkatan hybrid''.
