* HardboiledDetective: Being that the series is a homage to FilmNoir, he evokes many of the traits of one. In the first game, he [[LampshadeHanging directly references]] [[Film/TheMalteseFalcon Sam Spade]] and Literature/PhilipMarlowe in relation to his situation.



* TheOtherDarrin: Developer and scriptwriter Sam Lake was originally his model, followed by Timothy Gibbs. James [=McCaffrey=] (of ''Series/{{Viper}}'' fame) voices him in all three games, and was his motion capture actor in ''3''.
