* ClassicalAntiHero: Mostly in the first season; she's lazy, ditzy, and thrown into a position she has no experience with, but she pushes on through regardless.

The Book Smart trope is specifically about a character who does well in school. None of this has to do with Ui's schoolwork, and it also veers into natter anyway.

* BookSmart: The anime's rendition of Ui, which is more nuanced than the unqualified TheAce rendition in the manga. Ui is decent in school, but her talent is to ''correctly interpret oral and written instruction'' (which are often far from as clear as they need to be) and rapidly apply them to her own situation.
** Thus, in the anime, her learning of guitar starts with Yui teaching her (see the photo in [=S2E6=]), followed by multiple (''nankai'', implying more than the manga's ''suukai'', a few) times when she learns while deciphering written instructions for her BookDumb sister (who's AwesomebyAnalysis allows her to learn it faster by watching Ui than by reading the instructions herself).
** Note also how in the batting center, Ui doesn't figure out how to hit the ball ''by herself'', but only after ''decoding the oral instructions'' by the neighboring father and son. Yui, on the other hand, does figure out how to play the guitar and even mute without even learning the terms. These subtle distinctions is how the anime distinguishes between the two sister's talents.

* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: While Yui (and also Mugi to a lesser extent) are straight examples, all the girls here have their own fair share of quirks.

* ParodySue: Let's see, she's a [[PhenotypeStereotype blue-eyed blonde]] student in a school full of brunettes and raven-haired girls, her family's so ridiculously rich this page probably broke a record by how often it's mentioned, [[MsFanservice she's one of two of the most well-endowed members]], [[StrongerThanTheyLook is capable of lifting and carrying instruments that are very heavy]], calms everyone with sweets whenever things get hairy, and she has been a DeusExMachina for the club at least once (Having a villa the club could use to practice when they didn't have money to rent a place).

* {{Tsundere}}: A Harsh type; she usually tries to shrug off Yui's acts of affection, but she always lets up in the end. This aspect of her personality is toned down in the anime.

* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Yes, Ritsu may be the chaotic one and a prankster, but overall these girls are incredibly kind and innocent, never mean-spirited and always have the best intentions towards their friends.

* FlatCharacter: In the anime's first season, has the least focus and least development of all five girls--including Azusa, who appears in half as many episodes. Unlike Ritsu and Mio (who have each other) and Yui (who has her sister, Nodoka, and Asuza to bounce off of), Mugi never pairs off with any other characters and rarely appears outside of ensemble scenes, wherein her characterization is limited to "filthy rich FishOutOfWater in the land of poor people" and "thoughtfully brought sweets for everybody", and occasionally her manga-holdover Yuri ShippingGoggles. %%in-universe%%

* GirlsAreReallyScaredOfHorrorMovies: Freaks out when Ritsu just shows her the ''cover'' of a DVD, and later when she describes a (fake) horror movie to her.

Added DiffLines:

* AchievementsInIgnorance: She had never seen a tuner until her second training camp when Azusa uses hers. When asked how she tunes her guitar, she demonstrates just by listening. Azusa realizes Yui has a perfect pitch, something that is extremely rare and usually found in people with a musical background, something Yui likely doesn't realize.

* LazyBum: Before she joined the Light Music Club, Yui was part of the Going Home Club (AKA she always went home after class). Her time was spent reading manga, eating snacks, and just lazing around while Ui took care of the house. She's gotten better, since after joining the club she spends a lot of time practicing with Giita, but her laziness still shows from time to time.
