* Betty And Veronica: The Betty to Amber's Veronica in Season 1. [[spoiler: Then the Veronica to Willow's Betty. Then again, the Betty to Joy's Veronica. ]]

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Fabian is often believed to be one of the nicest people in the house, as well as a dorky ExtremeDoormat. But if you threaten or insult Nina in his presence, he will do everything from simply shout at you, to honestly trying to attack you physically.

* EvilIsPetty: When turned into a Sinner, his evil actions range from [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech whispering cruel things to Joy]] and taunting Alfie, to ripping out the last pages of every book, to putting jam in the milk.

* TheUnapologetic: Patricia has a moment like this where she refuses to apologize to Eddie for accidentally spilling a secret of his, only it's [[JustifiedTrope justified]], because she didn't actually do anything wrong. She ''did'' keep his secret and the fact that Eddie even thought that she would stoop so low as to sabotage him and turn on the loudspeaker on purpose to reveal his secret to the whole school she found highly offensive. Also, she was just being forced to apologize to Eddie so she could convince him to drop an article he was writing about the local ghost.
** In Episode 2, She also refuses to apologizes to Nina for locking up at night, as she refuses to give up on Joy.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: She is talking on her phone, during class, asking her father to give her an extension on her credit card.
* GeniusDitz: Amber isn't very good with academics and tends to have her head in the clouds ...but she does have many moments of genius and is very skilled at fashion. In the original Dutch version, she's more of a spoiled girl, with some ditzy moments.

* HiddenDepths: Revealed to be good at ping pong; as in a champion for three years straight. More importantly, she's also come up with some pretty good ideas during the search for the treasure in season 1.

* BewareTheSillyOnes: Alfie may be the ClassClown, but he's no pushover, as he has proven to be a useful presence in Sibuna- and if he is serious about something, you better not stand in his way. He yelled at Fabian and Patricia when they wanted to have breakfast instead of rescuing the currently-trapped Amber, and then later was the one standing up against [[TheSoulless Sinner-turned Fabian -- to the point of taunting Fabian about Nina and getting away with it.]]

* ThePrankster: Alfie and Jerome spend a majority of their free-time messing with their housemates, from swapping Mick's sports-gear with Amber's clothing, or pretending to be zombies in an effort to scare Sibuna.

* WellDoneSonGuy: His parents, particularly his father, look down on him so much that he tries so hard to impress them when they come over. It doesn't quite work.

* BrilliantButLazy: Starts off seeming like he's on the low end of the IQ scale, but then later reveals himself to speak fluent French, implying a certain level of intelligence. Most likely, the reason he doesn't post the same kind of grades as Mara is because he slacks off. Also, in a moment of GeniusBonus, schools in the UK are ''much'' harder than in America, as well as having a very different system: he is a complete fish out of water, and doesn't put in the effort to catch up/familiarize.
* BookDumb: Played with by Eddie. He speaks French well enough to see through Patricia's prank [[note]] She gave him a box of chocolate covered worms from a French company, thinking that the stupid American wouldn't be able to tell what they were[[/note]] and he even jokingly calls Ms. Andrews a "menteuse" [[note]] French for "liar", complete with the correct gender variation[[/note]], but he doesn't know the meaning of the word "meritocracy". [[note]]A form of government where a person's role is decided by their level of skill or merit[[/note]]

* DarkIsNotEvil: Downplayed; Eddie is the symbolic darkness to Nina's light, but is still one of the good guys. He is rebellious and edgy compared to her, but has no evil intentions.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: He gets out of a taxi, looking annoyed by his surroundings.

* BadLiar: Downplayed, as she doesn't lie ''that'' often, but when Patricia needed her to act as a cover when stealing from Mr.Sweet's office, she made up a story about endangered hedgehogs, struggling even just to keep Mr.Sweet engaged in the discussion.

* DeadpanSnarker: She has her moments.

* DemotedToExtra: She doesn't play as prominent of a role in the start of Season 2 or the end of Season 1, being mostly around for the romance subplot with Jerome and Mick. Subverted as Season 2 goes on having her own storylines like ghost hunting with Eddie and starting a school newspaper with Joy.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: She's friendly with Amber in class, but can't stop staring at Mick.

* GreenEyedMonster: Mara gets jealous when Mick starts getting his sports training from Mrs. Robinson-- and, because of said jealousy, tries to frame the two of them for a TeacherStudentRomance.

* OppositesAttract: First with Mick (when they're together, people refer to them as "the mathlete and the athlete"), then with resident ManipulativeBastard and JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jerome.

* AntiHero: Jerome was a very selfish and dark character, willing to do things like steal, lie, blackmail, cheat, or manipulate others to get his way. Despite his generally shady and callous personality, he has never wanted anyone to actually get hurt- and has gone to great lengths to protect people he cares about and do the right thing when it comes down to the wire. He teamed up with Sibuna in season 1, worked to save Trudy in season 2, and still kept his morally-ambiguous qualities in season 3, where he dipped back into his selfish and manipulative ways, but then proved to still be a good person with good intentions.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Joy, who he finds extremely irritating before eventually falling for her

* DeadpanSnarker: Jerome is quite snarky, often responding with blunt comments at a time when everyone else tries to be polite, or outright mocking his fellow housemates through his commentary.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: He is scamming a student out of his money for a cheat sheet.
* FreudianExcuse: Jerome's mischievous behavior is partially explained by the fact that his parents left him at House Of Anubis to get rid of him.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Jerome is known for being manipulative, greedy, selfish and rude to everyone around him, including his best friend Alfie, who he has gleefully mistreated on more than one occasion. But when the chips are down, he proves he does care about his housemates, and in Season 2, he stopped at nothing to help his father. The people most prone to making him show his good side, besides his family, are Mara and Joy, drawing a sharp contrast between his nasty persona and his sweet inner-self.

* TookALevelInKindness: At first manipulative and uncaring, he eventually showed [[HiddenDepths a much better side]] to Mara when she got to know him, and this put him on the path to becoming a better person. Case in point--in the first season, he allied with [[BigBad Rufus]] out of jealousy of Sibuna's closeness. In the second season, he started helping Rufus again--to rescue the kidnapped Trudy and find the stolen gem. He took another [[TookALevelInJerkass level in jerkass]] in season three though.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He likes apples, and is seen with them in several scenes in all three seasons.

* AbhorrentAdmirer : She is this to Fabian in all season 2 and part of season 3, before Fabian rejects her harshly enough for her to quit Sibuna. Here, the admirer's abhorrence doesn't come from her looks, but from her actions- he finds her annoying and clingy, and still has feelings for Nina.
* AffectionateNickname: Jerome calls her "Joyless," an appropriate nickname that starts as him poking fun at her, but eventually grows to be something he calls her quite affectionately
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Kind of. She has dark brown hair, and though she is rather extroverted and [[LovableAlphaBitch loves attention]], her cunning nature and insecurities give her shades of this trope.

* DeadpanSnarker: Joy is plenty snarky, especially with Jerome.

* FreudianExcuse: Joy manipulating Fabian, posting horrible slander about Nina on the school website to ruin her image and try to make her leave the school, and committing plagiarism are all due to her excuse of thinking Nina has stolen everything from her. Subverted from an In-Universe perspective though: She tries to invoke it to justify her behavior, [[FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse but none of her friends are buying it]].

* HerOwnWorstEnemy: Is she ever! By season three, she knows it too, telling Jerome, "Take it from a girl who always makes things worse"
* HopelessSuitor: Joy is this for Fabian, having liked him for at least a year BEFORE Nina even knew Fabian. even AFTER Nina leaves, Fabian still turns her down, and rather rudely too.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: She wanted a normal life during season 1, when she was being held up like a prisoner in her own house and forced to never contact her friends because she was the 'Chosen One'.

* TakingTheBullet: Protects Fabian from a Senkahra-possessed Nina hurling a lightning bolt this way, and nearly dies because of it.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: Victor Rodenmaar. No matter how badly he himself may act towards the students, when they are in danger, he responds protectively over them. For instance, when Alfie is captured in the Senet game, Victor is deeply disturbed by this and says to Vera that harming the students wasn't part of the plan. Another time, he chose to save Joy's life rather than use his last tear of gold for himself.
* EvilFormerFriend: With Sarah. He actually did consider her a friend before, but his father rid him of that notion.
* FreudianExcuse: Victor actually did see Sarah as a friend at one point, but his father changed all that, threatening to send him to the orphanage if he didn't aid him in getting Sarah's secrets.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite being the villain, he is proven to really care about the students deep down, when he kicked Vera out for hurting the students and sacrificing his last tear of gold to save a dying Joy Mercer. See EvenEvilHasStandards above.

* OlderThanHeLooks: Victor is really ninety-five years old, but looks middle-aged.

* AntiVillain: He was only really a villain by way of being a member of the Secret Society and betraying Patricia. He was always more interested in his teaching job and the students, and even after betraying Patricia, still clearly cared about her. In the finale, he attempted to get Victor and the other teachers to help Sibuna, who were trapped with [[BigBad Rufus Zeno]]. It was then revealed that the only reason he joined the Society at all was because the elixir of life, which makes one immortal, would have saved him from dying of his degenerative illness. In a deleted scene, he even got to talk to Patricia one last time before disappearing from the show. He was never at all a bad guy, he had just made the wrong choices.

* HotTeacher: The female students certainly think so, being immediately attracted to him on his first day- it helps that he's young and friendly.

* EvilPrincipal: Downplayed. He's the headmaster of the school and TheDragon to Victor Rodenmarr Jr., and thus a member of TheConspiracy to attain immortal life at the expense of the students, but he's actually a good man despite his exterior and mostly just gets bossed around by Victor. He ultimately does a HeelFaceTurn in Season 2, fully subverting this. However, come Season 3, this is double subverted when he comes back to help Victor and Miss Denby complete their ceremony and is turned into a "Sinner".

* BitchInSheepsClothing: Pretends to help Patricia to serve his own selfish needs, acting friendly right up until it's time to turn on her.

* EvilFormerFriend: He was once childhood friends with Victor and Sarah. However, after learning he was an Osiran and learning certain secrets about the House, he turned on both of them.
* EvilWearsBlack: He wears the same black coat, black turtle neck and black pants in virtually all his appearances.
* FakingTheDead: Happened once prior to the beginning of the series to throw everyone off his trail, and at the beginning of season two, he appeared in the obituary before returning as a character.

* AGodAmI: At the end of Season 2, but he doesn't get a lot of time to rant about his godliness.

* KickTheDog: Her notable ones include the time she convinced Victor to steal the Ox Bell needed for the next task from the exhibition, and then frame one of the Sibunas- one of the first times one of the teachers actually expressed a desire to hurt the students instead of just stopping them from completing their mystery, and then again when she kidnaps Trudy and sends him off to The Collector, after Trudy confronted her about the theft. There was also the time she expressed absolutely no care when Alfie fell through the floor during senet- an action that [[EvenEvilHasStandards even Victor found disgusting.]] And these are just a few of her horrible, horrible moments.
* {{May December Romance}}: Victor developed feelings for her, despite him being over 95 in series 2 when they met, while Vera is somewhere in her 40’s. However, due to the doses of the elixir Victor took in the past they look the same age.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: For all her evil, and hating she always seemed to draw a line at actually killing her sister. Of course, what she does do to her isn't that much better, with Caroline poisoning her mind and getting her locked in an instituion.
* EvilTeacher: Not only is she a new teacher in season 3, but one of the new antagonists as well, and uses her position as a teacher to mess with the students more easily.

* BigBad: When he wakes up, he takes over as the main threat to the kids, though he is just playing TheDragon to Ammut. It's him who is collecting sinners to awaken his God, and spends his time bossing around Victor and Caroline.

* EvilIsHammy: He ''loves'' to [[ChewingTheScenery chew the scenery]] as Evil!Robert:

* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: PlayedWith; while Piper initially seems like she'd be the foolish and naive sister, compared to Patricia's status as the least emotional member of Sibuna. However, when they actually interact, Patricia's rebellious and mischievous nature is highlighted, while Piper is the one trying to keep ''her'' in line- making Piper the responsible one, and Patricia the foolish one.

* RomanticFalseLead: In the short time she's at the House, Alfie develops a crush on her, and she likes him back. However, she leaves before they can even act on their feelings, and her subplot seemed mostly a way to get Amber to realize she still has feelings for Alfie.

* CatchPhrase: "I'm Nina, from America." Lampshaded by Patricia:
--> '''Patricia:''' She's American and she's totally obsessed with it. She said it like a hundred times.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: She is shown getting off the train, with a big smile and an American-flag sticker on her suitcase.

* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: She and her friends were cursed, her grandmother was nearly killed off, she started hearing voices, saw ghosts, and was almost taken to the afterlife with an evil spirit, all because of her identity as the Chosen One.

* TheLeader: The leader of Sibuna, being the intelligent, brave, and heroic protagonist whose desire to find treasure led to Sibuna's very existence. Everyone else turns to her for direction, and she makes a majority of the plans.

* UngratefulBastard: Nina is this to Fabian MANY times, most notably when he rescues her from falling into the chasm.

* JerkassBall: There's one part in season three where Fabian rejects Joy. Being the [[NiceGuy nicest guy in the house]] next to Alfie, one would expect him to let her down gently like he'd done all throughout season two. Instead he rejected her in an incredibly harsh way, leaving her utterly heartbroken and to quit Sibuna.

* KickTheDog: As a sinner, he did his kicking when he pointlessly gave Joy a verbal trashing, after Joy was at her lowest emotional point. He had hugged her, and then whispered to her a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech that KT, who was in the room, could not hear, leaving Joy almost completely broken that night...and he had not been planning on making her a sinner, and was just doing this for some sadistic fun.

* NiceGuy: One of his defining traits is his kindness, from being the only one to treat Nina nicely when she first arrived, to being genuinely unable to ignore Joy without feeling mean, to even being the only member of Sibuna to protest treating the "traitor", KT, like dirt.

* SoreLoser: People think he's being this in "The Touchstone of Ra" when he tries to take the Valedictorian medal from Mara. He was being kind of a dick about it earlier, but the reason he wanted the medal was because wearing it would cause Mara to be sacrificed to Ra and Fabian was trying to keep her safe.

* AntiHero: Patricia has always been on the good side of every conflict the characters have faced, save when she becomes a Sinner, and is literally turned evil. She's also temperamental, jealous, blunt, and is the most willing of the Sibuna characters to do morally-gray things to succeed, such as kidnap Rufus from the hospital or read KT's diary. After spending several episodes tormenting Nina and acting as a rogue in her quest to save Joy, she eventually teamed up with Sibuna, becoming their most morally-ambiguous character while still being firmly on the side of good.
* BadassInDistress: When Patricia gets kidnapped by the villain, she still manages to keep being the strong person she is and does everything she can to escape, from leaving a clue behind when she was taken to trying to knock out the villain. Despite this, it is her friends who end up rescuing her. (After two of them have to be saved themselves after a first failed rescue attempt, anyway.) Immediately following her rescue Patricia goes on to furiously blackmail one of the teachers into telling the secret about her missing friend.

* BullyTurnedBuddy: Patricia relentlessly tormented Nina when she first arrived at the school, on the assumption that Nina was responsible for her friend's disappearance. But Nina was willing to forgive her once Patricia began to cool down, and by the end of season one, they'd become very close friends and loyal Sibuna members.

* DeadpanSnarker: She's extremely sarcastic no matter who she's talking to or why. Even Rufus, who ''kidnapped her'', was forced to deal with her sarcasm when she demanded food and snarkily greeted him.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She's the cool goth who says what she thinks, does what she wants and scares the rest of the students in all three seasons, but come season 2 her personality started to soften up overall. What happened? Well, she met [[BelligerentSexualTension Eddie]] and started to turn a bit nicer. Not to mention the whole near death mystery stuff and the [[PowerOfFriendship power of friendship]]. If those things can't begin to chip away at someone's [[IceQueen icy]] shell, nothing can.

* DevilInPlainSight: At least when she becomes a sinner. She tricked the others into believing the sinner was KT, while her [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness out of character attitude]] should have suggested otherwise; she also claimed that KT ''dragged her'' to the Gatehouse, which puts her in a victim position the real Patricia would never allow herself to be in.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: She and Joy are goofing around and being best friends.

* HairTriggerTemper: It doesn't take much to make her angry, be it making a comment she doesn't like, potentially being interested in her boyfriend, accidentally getting her shirt messy... she gets angry quickly, and then stays angry for a while afterward.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Patricia may be temperamental, blunt, and aggressive, but she ''does'' mean well- and proves her genuine good-side by looking out for her friends, even the ones she'd been quite mean to at the beginning of the series. She's snarky and rude, but truly cares about the people around her, and shows her softer side when they're in need of it.
* KickTheDog: As a sinner, she crossed it by tricking everyone into thinking KT was the sinner, and then constantly taunting KT at each chance she had about it. There was a subtle one where she promised to bring KT breakfast- Sibuna had locked her in their bedroom- and when the others left, she threw the food away instead.

* NonconformistDyedHair: Downplayed with Patricia in season 1. While her hair isn't technically dyed so much as she uses brightly-colored clip-on hair-streaks, it's another way of marking her as the tough, alternative "goth pixie" who stands in contrast to the rest of The House, such as being Nina's {{Foil}} and Sibuna's independent, anti-heroic Lancer.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Introduced as a rebellious and snarky bad-boy who even ''Patricia'' thinks is a jackass, eventually shows himself to have a good heart, being a loyal friend, a hard-working boyfriend, and Nina's Osirian, who saves the day in the end without a second thought.
* TheLeader: When Nina leaves in season 3, he takes this role, as the Osirian, voted on by the members of Sibuna. In contrast to Nina, he's a bit more impulsive and action-oriented, but is still heroic and proactive enough to take the job.
* MistakenForCheating: Patricia starts to believes Eddie was cheating on her season 3. In the beginning, she and Fabian believe that Eddie and Nina had a summer romance and that's why Nina didn't come back, because of some emails they found on Eddie's computer and the fact that he had Nina's locket. It turned out that Nina gave him the locket because he might need it, and the emails were about the whole Chosen One and Osirian thing. Later on, Miss Denby tricks Patricia into believing Eddie is cheating on her by placing fake messages on his laptop and manipulating her into reading them. It doesn't get resolved too easily, as Patricia turns into a sinner for getting upset over this, which was the whole plan. Both times, this was PlayedForDrama rather than laughs.

* ISeeDeadPeople: She has this ability as the ChosenOne. For instance, she could see and talk to Victor Rodenmaar, Sr., when she was trapped in the Sennet game. And she can see Senkhara. [[ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne Though this isn't]] [[BlessedWithSuck exactly a good thing.]]

* DeadpanSnarker: Joy is plenty snarky, especially with Jerome

* TheChick: She's the girliest member of Sibuna, and is also the glue that holds them together- naming the club in Season 1, bringing Patricia and Alfie back in Season 2, and officially bringing the club back together before she left in Season 3.

* ManioulativeBastard: When he was still pretending to be Patricia's ally, his interactions with her were full of classic manipulation tactics, making her trust him by telling her what she wanted to hear while encouraging her to be distrustful of others. He came to her at the time when she was most alone, and used that to trick her into being loyal to him, right up until the mask fell off.

* TookALevelInJerkass: In the third season, having gotten over his ExtremeDoormat phase, he got rather aggressive and paranoid. He was distrustful of KT and Eddie, and roped Patricia into his paranoia, which causes a lot of tension even after KT and Eddie joined Sibuna. He rejected Joy in an uncharacteristically harsh way, after several episodes of mostly ignoring and neglecting her. While he was still fundamentally the same nice guy underneath, he had a lot more edge this season.

* TookALevelInJerkass: In the third season, having gotten over his ExtremeDoormat phase, he got rather aggressive, to the point where he gave Joy an overly harsh rejection and caused her to quit Sibuna. He became MUCH worse as a sinner, tormenting his former friends just because he could.

* AllLovingHero: She's kind, generous, and forgiving towards everyone, whether it's the {{Jerkass}} who toremented her for no reason, the ''other'' {{Jerkass}} who wrote an attack article about her, or even the house master who nearly got her killed. Even [[BigBad Rufus]] seems to merit a certain amount of concern from her. (Notice how worried for him she sounds when trying to talk him out of using the mask.)

* AthleticallyChallenged: He's the stereotypically unathletic nerd, known for being unable to even play hopscotch correctly. This results in him being stuck as the LoserTeamMascot during the interhouse dodgeball tournament and being mocked in general for his lack of muscle. He does have bursts of strength, which also means he's the won who ''[[PutMeInCoach wins]]'' the dodgeball tournament and can occasionally hold his own in a fight... but this doesn't mean he's given any credit for that, nor that it ever actually sticks the next time he needs to rely on physical strength and athleticism.

* CowardiceCallout: DoubleSubverted late into season 2. Sibuna [[SixthRanger and Joy]] are playing a game of senet to reach [[MacGuffin the mask]] and rescue Nina, who got captured early on. Tempers begin to flare up as Fabian starts making decisions against Joy's back, despite her being the supposed leader of the senet game. After his refusal to follow one of Joy's orders gets both Patricia and Amber captured at once, the two of them have a brief, insult-laden argument where Joy]], among other things, calls him a coward. After they patch things up and win the game, Fabian admits to her that he ''has'' been a coward -- not in playing the game, but in confronting their troubled and increasingly awkward relationship throughout the season. Notably, this insult is the only one he acknowledges during his apology.
