Added DiffLines:

* OneBadMother: He takes on the nickname "Mom" and pretends to be the nice counselor, but he's just as sadistic as the other staffers. The "Camp Greenlake Survival Guide" even points out that his nice guy act makes him ''worse'' than Mr. Sir.

* BiggerBad: She's the one who set the curse of bad luck on the Yelnats lineage.

Added DiffLines:

* GreaterScopeVillain: She's not a villain ''per se'', and she had a good reason to be mad, but she is the one who set the curse of bad luck on the Yelnats lineage.
* LargeHam: In the film version, to an extent, even topping her announcement of Elya's curse with an out of nowhere EvilLaugh. Comes with the territory of being played by Eartha Kitt.

Added DiffLines:

* HateSink: Among the three main members of the Camp Green Lake staff, he's the first one to be a clear target of the readers' hate, being an irritable, cold-hearted and all around unpleasant man.

Added DiffLines:

* HateSink: As a greedy, racist and abusive sociopath, it's easy to tell that Trout is not meant to be liked. This serves to make Kissin' Kate [[spoiler:and the Warden]] much more sympathetic by comparison, as well as give you a reason to root for Kate despite the fact that she's a robber and a SerialKiller (it helps that Trout's the reason she became those things in the first place).

Added DiffLines:

* MayDecemberRomance: One of Kate's former students ends up marrying him (as an adult, fortunately), though as Kate correctly assesses, [[GoldDigger she only did it for his money]].

* CondescendingCompassion: In the film, his EstablishingCharacterMoment is doing this to Zero.
-->'''Mr. Pendanski:''' (''in a disgustingly perky voice'') You know why we call him Zero? Because there's nothin' going on on in his stupid little head!

* FormerlyFat: In the book, he comes to Camp Green Lake chubby. But all that time digging holes slimmed him down and built up his muscles.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: He's much nicer to everyone else in the film.film. In particular, even though he is the only one doesn't greet Stanley and Zero when they return in the book, he's just as overjoyed as everyone else when they come back in the film and even parts with Stanley with some final emotional words before he leaves.
