* AmbiguouslyEvil: [[MultipleChoicePast Multiple possible explanations]] are given for her existence, some of which imply she was actually not inherently evil and was corrupted by Ayana's hatred. While she's undoubtedly a dangerous monster and the film's main villain, it's unclear if she does the things she does out of a malicious nature or simply because she thinks its what Ayana wants her to do.

Based on coloring, [[EyesDoNotBelongThere the glowing patches on their chest may also be some sort of visual organ as well]].

* ProgressivelyPrettier: '''Inverted to horrific degrees.''' The Gyaos, every time they show up, get more and more disgusting and disturbing to look at, with their most recent appearance (the 2015 short film) having a red-raw skin texture, bulging, outwards-facing eyes, and an OverlyLongTongue.
** Their ''Rebirth'' incarnation sort of buck the trend as they sport a brilliant red color scheme with purple and blue markings- overall, not bad. However, their coloration is the only remotely "pretty" thing about them: They appear to be keeping the emaciated appearance, fisheyes, tattered wings, and OverlyLongTongue of the short-film incarnation. But then it’s later played straight again in the final episode with S-Gyaos being perhaps the most ugly and horrific looking version of the character after gorging itself on Viras' corpse, with not only a sickly red and white color scheme, but extremely tattered wings, a bizarre looking frill instead of horns, and six unevenly sized eyes.
