[[folder:Historical Figures]]
{{Posthumous Character}}s ([[NotQuiteDead presumably]]) who have great historical importance in Equestria's history and lore.
----
!!Tropes shared by most of them
* AlliterativeName: Star Swirl the Bearded. Also Clover the Clever, Princess Platinum and Private Pansy if you include titles.
* BeleagueredAssistant: To say that the assistants were annoyed at the behavior of their leaders would have been an understatement.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: The assistants took out the [[EldritchAbomination Windigos]] and saved Equestria. As always, this involved [[CircleOfFriendship blasting them with]] [[ThePowerOfFriendship weaponized friendship]]. Notable because it was ''accidental''.
* FantasticRacism: This was an unfortunate trait of the three races before they were united under Equestria's founding: The Earth Ponies resented the Pegasi and Unicorns for messing with the weather and their demands for food. The Pegasi were angry at the Earth Ponies for not being able to grow food and the Unicorns were viewed as too haughty by the other two. Especially evident in the leaders.
* PosthumousCharacter: This is kind of a requirement to be listed here.
* RedOniBlueOni: Each of the three leaders of the pony races had this kind of relationship with their assistants. The Leaders being red while the assistants were blue.

!!Star Swirl the Bearded
[[quoteright:167:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/star_swirl_the_bearded__tiny_7881.png]]
[--[[caption-width-right:167:Vector by [[http://magister39.deviantart.com/art/Star-Swirl-The-Bearded-Three-s-a-Crowd-429456636 Magister39.]] Used with permission.]]--]
-->'''First Mention:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E4LunaEclipsed Luna Eclipsed]]"

The father of the amniomorphic spell and mentor to Clover the Clever, this influential yet obscure unicorn created more than 200 spells and was the most important conjurer of the pre-classical era. A wing in the Canterlot Archives (the most secure section, in fact) and a shelf in the Canterlot Library of Magic are both named after him. Twilight Sparkle dressed up as him for Nightmare Night during "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E4LunaEclipsed Luna Eclipsed]]".

* AllThereInTheManual: We haven't even seen a picture of him in the show (not withstanding the iconic image of him used in the museum's posters for "Three's a Crowd", but he's appeared in the abovementioned [[OfficialFanSubmittedContent fan-designed]] licensed [[TheMerch art print]]. He does appear in a voiceless one-off role within IDW's "Friends Forever" #2, and is a major character within the main comic series #17, though the latter is closer to the all-white color scheme of the show image.
* AmbiguousDisorder: Despite being some kind of genius, Princess Celestia said that he "didn't understand friendship".
* TheArchmage: Probably an obscenely powerful mage considering that Twilight calls him the "most important conjurer of the pre-classical era."
* BilingualBonus[=/=]StealthPun: Twilight says Star Swirl the Bearded is the master of the amniomorphic spell. Amnio means 'bowl' and morphic means 'form' which makes him a bearded bowl-making spellcaster... a [[Literature/HarryPotter hairy potter]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: In Issue #17 of the IDW comic series, Luna considers Star Swirl to be more like Pinkie Pie; we later see in flashbacks to he and Celestia exploring alternate dimensions via a magic mirror that Luna is not far off point, with Star Swirl not quite as random as Pinkie but a lot more hyper than one would have expected.
* {{Cosplay}}: Not he himself, but Twilight dresses as him for Nightmare Night becoming a "[[WholesomeCrossdresser Cross]]player" by doing so.
** [[ExaggeratedTrope Exaggerated]] in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E11ThreesACrowd Three's a Crowd]]", where Twilight not only [[CallBack dons her old costume again]] to go to an exhibit dedicated to Star Swirl, but she's also surrounded by [[FanConvention other ponies dressed as him]], checking out the stands themed after Star Swirled the Bearded.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Literature/HarryPotter Dumbledore]] and [[Literature/LordOfTheRings Gandalf]]... [[WizardClassic along with a lot of other wizards.]]
** In the comics where we see him in person in flashbacks, he's a lot like [[Disney/TheSwordInTheStone Merlin]].
* GenderFlip: The toyline's Star Swirl has always been female, even in G4, but the name is used for a male character in this show.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: In the [[OfficialFanSubmittedContent fan-designed]] licensed [[TheMerch art print]].
* LonelyAtTheTop: Implied in "Magical Mystery Cure"; a famous mage who created 200+ spells and is still studied in the modern day, yet according to Celestia he "didn't understand friendship" and thus he failed at crafting his final spell.
* TheMagnificent: "The Bearded".
* TheMentor: To Clover the Clever.
* OddFriendship: With Scorpan, who had arrived in Equestria to conquer it with his brother Tirek before coming to love the ponies' lifestyle.
* PalsWithJesus: He was around when Equestria was founded, and was Celestia's personal adviser, as shown in issue 17 of the IDW comic.
* [[ManInWhite Pony in White]]: Played with. [[MysticalWhiteHair His coat, mane and beard are white]] (although the last two might just be [[WizardsLiveLonger because he's old]]), but he wears blue robes.
* PlotTumor: As the series progressed and more world-building was done, Star Swirl went from an off-hand mention as an important unicorn wizard to probably the most important figure in Equestrian history aside from Celestia and Luna, who he worked alongside closely to build Equestria after its founding.
* RobeAndWizardHat[=/=]WizardBeard: Twilight wears all of these on Nightmare Night to emulate him.
* SpellBook: Yep, he has one. [[spoiler:It's his SecretDiary]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: "Star Swirl" and "Starswirl" have both been used, but given that it came from a list of stuff pre-approved by Hasbro, it's presumably supposed to be spelled the same way as the toyline's Star Swirl.
* MysticalWhiteHair: The book ''Literature/TheJournalOfTheTwoSisters'' reveals that, before Celestia and Luna began doing it, it fell to teams of unicorns uniting their magic to control the sun and moon every day. Star Swirl's white hair resulted from him trying to do it himself when no other unicorns could be found at the time; before then he was brown-haired.

!!Clover the Clever

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

One of the founders of Equestria, Star Swirl the Bearded's protegee and assistant to Princess Platinum. Played by Twilight Sparkle in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant.

* AmbiguousGender: Although the character is played by Twilight, no gender pronouns are used to address Clover.
** ''Literature/TheJournalOfTheTwoSisters'' confirms that Clover the Clever is female.
* {{Expy}}/GenderFlip: Possibly of G2's [[http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Clever_Clover Clever Clover.]]
%% * MagicKnight
* TheMagnificent: "The Clever"
* {{Seers}}: Implied, as she predicted that the founders would see reason.
* [[StraightMan Straight Pony]]: To Platinum.

!!Princess Platinum

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

One of the founders of Equestria and daughter of the Unicorn King. Played by Rarity in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant.

* AmbiguousGender: Averted. Due to the "princess" title she is the only role in the play that is definitely one gender.
* ErmineCapeEffect: Wears only her royal robes, due to the LimitedWardrobe of the episode.
%%* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple[=/=]PurpleIsPowerful: Her gown is purple and she is the princess of the magic using tribe.
* NervesOfSteel: Princess Platinum may seem flighty, but faced down a angry Luna and her manticore pet with only a tremble in her voice.
* PimpedOutDress: Her [[PrettyInMink ermine-trimmed]] gown.
* PrincessesRule: Possibly; we never see her father and she's the one who goes off to found Equestria, not him.
%%* RequisiteRoyalRegalia
* RoyalBrat: Until the Windigos' defeat, she is haughty and likes pulling rank.
** ''Literature/TheJournalOfTheTwoSisters'' reveals she didn't entirely learn her lesson, being extremely indignant about Celestia and Luna outranking her.

!!Commander Hurricane

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

One of the founders of Equestria and the leader of the Pegasi. Played by Rainbow Dash in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant.

* AmbiguousGender: Hurricane is referred to as "sir"[[note]]Which can be gender neutral in certain situations[[/note]] multiple times as well as being named a "[[TheBrute brute]]" (an insult which is usually AlwaysMale) throughout the play but Pansy calls Hurricane "her" multiple times and the role is played by the female Rainbow Dash. ''Literature/TheJournalOfTheTwoSisters'' describes Commander Hurricane as male, though.
* AwesomeMcCoolname: ''Hurricane'' is both intimidating and appropriate.
* BloodKnight: Hurricane is fond of battle because this was an era when pegasi were more interested in conquering then competitive flying.
* BoisterousBruiser: Much like Rainbow Dash who plays [[AmbiguousGender him/her]], Hurricane seems rather full of him/herself and prone to fighting.
* GeneralRipper: To contrast Princess Platinum, she/he's a military style {{Jerkass}}.
* HotBlooded: Princess Platinum (Rarity) once refered to him/her as Commander Hothead.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: After the Windigos' defeat he/she tones down the jerkness and values friendship.
* MeanBoss: To Private Pansy for the pushing and abrasive orders.
* [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Proud Warrior Race Pony]]: According to the play, Hurricane's love of battle and conquest was typical of ponies at this point in history.
* TheOneGuy: According ''Literature/TheJournalOfTheTwoSisters'', Commander Hurricane was the only stallion amongst the six founders.

!!Private Pansy

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

One of the founders of Equestria and subordinate of Commander Hurricane. Played by Fluttershy in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant.

* FailOSuckyname: Contrasted with her commanding officer's. On its own "Pansy" wouldn't be too bad as a pony name...but "Private Pansy" is possibly the worst name imaginable for a military setting.
* ShrinkingViolet: Like her actor, Pansy was a shy and timid pony.
* [[StraightMan Straight Mare]]: To Hurricane

!!Chancellor Puddinghead

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

One of the founders of Equestria and leader of the Earth ponies. Played by Pinkie Pie in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant.

* TheCaligula: A mild example before the Windigos' defeat; a leader who is annoyingly quirky instead of dangerously insane.
* CloudCuckoolander: See InsaneTrollLogic.
* InsaneTrollLogic: If Pinkie's interpretation of the character is anything to go by, Puddinghead runs on this. She was elected because she can think outside of the box, which means she can also think [[CrowningMomentOfFunny inside the chimney]]. Can ''you'' think inside a chimney?
* NiceHat: Wears a ''bowl of pudding'' on her head, hence her name.
* NoSenseOfDirection: Believes wearing an upside-down map on her face is all the direction she needs. Of course whether it's upside or not is irrelevant; [[InsaneTrollLogic the world is round; there is no up or down]].
* [[PointyHairedBoss Pointy Maned Boss]]: It's a wonder the earth ponies managed to function with her in charge. To make matters worse? She was ELECTED!

!!Smart Cookie

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

One of the founders of Equestria and secretary to Chancellor Puddinghead. Played by Applejack in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant.

* DeadpanSnarker / ServileSnarker: Serves up regular snark at his/her boss. All the weird behaviors provide no shortage of material.
* HonestAdvisor: Always speaks his/her mind to Puddinghead.
%%* SassySecretary
* [[StraightMan Straight Mare]]: To Puddinghead because she isn't crazy.

!!Scorpan

-->'''First Mentioned:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E25TwilightsKingdomPart1 Twilight's Kingdom]]"

The brother of Tirek. Scorpan and Tirek came from a distant land to take over Equestria and its magic a very long time ago, but Scorpan came to appreciate Equestria after he befriended Starswirl The Bearded and the other ponies. He tried to convince Tirek to join him, but he refused, so Scorpan alerted Celestia and Luna of his plans and Tirek was imprisoned in Tartarus while Scorpan returned home to his own land.

* AdaptationalVillainy[=/=]AdaptationalHeroism: On both sides. Unlike the original Scorpan, who followed Tirek out of fear and protecting G1 Spike, Scorpan came to Equestria assisting his brother in his attempted conquest at first. The other side comes from when he has a HeelFaceTurn upon befriending the ponies. While the original Scorpan did assist in Tirek's defeat, this one is the active cause of his brother's downfall.
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to his brother's Cain.
* TheGhost: He doesn't appear in the episode himself, but still plays a pivotal role in his brother's imprisonment [[spoiler: and indirectly, Tirek's second imprisonment.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: He was going to take over Equestria alongside his brother, but he befriended Starswirl The Bearded.
* LastSecondChance: Tried this with his brother. After his HeelFaceTurn, he tried to convince Tirek not to continue their original plan, but Tirek wouldn't listen, leaving Scorpan with no other choice but to get his brother imprisoned in Tartarus.
* LoveRedeems: Of the friendship type of love, as Starswirl's friendship along with other ponies resulted in his redemption.
* Mana Drain: It can be presumed that he has the same ability to steal magic as his brother Tirek.
* MementoMacGuffin: He had given his brother a medallion. Tirek would later give it to Discord as a sign of their friendship and trust. [[spoiler: Tirek was lying and it meant nothing to him. The medallion would become Twilight's key.]]
* MythologyGag: Based on Scorpan from the [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTVSpecials G1 special]], where he was one of Tirek's minions who eventually made a HeelFaceTurn.

* PosthumousCharacter: Presumably.
* [[SelfMadeMan Self Made Stallion]]. Started off poor but became rich [[spoiler:by selling Granny Smith's Zap Apple Jam.]]
* UnfortunateNames: He must have been a bully magnet in school.
* ThemeNaming: Stinkin' Rich and his grandson Filthy Rich.

!!The Olden Pony

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E6SleeplessInPonyville Sleepless in Ponyville]]"

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TabithaStGermain

A creepy old mare from a ghost story where she hunts ponies while searching for her missing horseshoe. She only appears in Scootaloo's nightmares after she hears the story.
----
* BlackCloak: A somewhat tattered one at that for the spookiness.
* MadnessMantra: "Who's got my rusty horseshoe...?"
* NightmareFuel: InUniverse for Scootaloo.
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: While creepy, all she wants is her missing horseshoe. [[spoiler:Returning it will result in a "thank you" and her leaving contented. Of course, that was just in Scootaloo's dream after conquering her fears]]. If the Olden Pony is an established Equestrian folk tale figure, she might still be thoroughly evil in the commonly told stories.
%% * OnlyKnownByTheirNickname
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Adding to how ominous she looks.

!!The Headless Horse

-->'''First Mention:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E8LookBeforeYouSleep Look Before You Sleep]]"\\
'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E6SleeplessInPonyville Sleepless in Ponyville]]"

A headless monster from a ghost story based on [[TheLegendOfSleepyHollow the Headless Horseman]]. It only appears in a ghost story told by Twilight and then later during Scootaloo's nightmares after she hears the story from Rainbow Dash.

* AmbiguousGender: Always referred to as an "it" (though Scootaloo's nightmare gives it a body that seems to match Princess Luna's).
* ContinuityNod: The story of the Headless Horse was first told in "Look Before You Sleep" and was told again, with more relevance in "Sleepless in Ponyville".
* {{Expy}}: [[TheLegendOfSleepyHollow The Headless Horseman]].
* FridgeLogic: InUniverse; Applejack questions how it can move without a head, or where its brain is.
* [[HeadlessHorseman Headless Horse]]: ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin.
* IncrediblyLamePun: The Headless Horse(man).
* NightmareFuel: InUniverse, for Scootaloo.
%% * OnlyKnownByTheirNickname

!!The Pony of Shadows

-->'''Debut:''' [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E3CastleManeia "Castle Mane-ia"]]

A LivingShadow which haunts the derelict Everfree Castle, shown in the episode [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E3CastleManeia "Castle Mane-ia"]]. It's said to be a remnant of Nightmare Moon's magic left behind when she was banished, but other than that, it's a complete mystery. It could be [[spoiler:Tirek, given the hood and size, but the eyes are wrong and that idea raises a massive plot hole.]]

* HeWasRightThereAllAlong: [[spoiler:Oh, hey. It's that big shadow that keeps showing up... [[OhCrap Why is it staring at me?]]]]
* InTheHood: Certainly looks to be a hooded figure.
* LivingShadow
* MysteriousPast: Applejack's tale is the only sort of backstory it has, and even then we don't know if that's really its origin. [[spoiler:We don't even know if the hooded figure from the castle is the person from Applejack's legend or someone entirely unrelated though a tweet from Jayson Thiessen jokes about the possibility of it being Tirek.]]
* MysteriousWatcher: It does nothing but watch the Mane Six as they explore the castle.
* [[spoiler:RealAfterAll: Its introductory episode ends with an apparent reveal that everything that happened has a logical explanation, only for it to be shown to still be lurking in the castle...]]
* ShoutOut: InNameOnly to the Lord of Shadows from ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}'', since its [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E3CastleManeia debut episode's title]] is a ShoutOut to the game.
* [[spoiler:SupernaturalGoldEyes: To distinguish the real one from the fake one seen throughout "Castle Mane-ia".]]
** [[spoiler:GlowingEyesOfDoom]]
* TheVoiceless: [[spoiler:It doesn't say a word in its introductory episode.]]

[[folder:''Power Ponies'' Characters]]
Characters who appear in the ''Power Ponies'' [[ShowWithinAShow comics]] Spike reads. The Power Ponies are a group of superheroes who fight to protect the city of [[CityOfAdventure Maretropolis]] from villains, criminals, and other evildoers. Spike and the Mane Six are temporarily [[TrappedInTVLand zapped into an enchanted issue of the comic]], taking on roles from the story and facing a villain who they must defeat [[WinToExit in order to escape]].

As the actual power ponies have not appeared, only the Manes dressed as them, little is known about their appearances or personalities. It's unsure if the Power Ponies are even the same pony type as the Mane character that portrayed them, although Humdrum almost certainly isn't a dragon. The upcoming IDW MLP Annual 2014 comic appears to be focused on the "actual" Power Ponies.

!!The Masked Matter-horn

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, a unicorn[[note]]as confirmed by the [[https://derpicdn.net/img/2014/6/18/656113/large.jpeg cover]] of the My Little Pony 2014 Annual[[/note]] who can fire all sorts of energy beams from her horn. Twilight Sparkle fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* {{Expy}}: Of [[Franchise/XMen Cyclops with a side of Iceman]].
* [[AnIcePerson An Ice Pony]]: She can fire a freeze ray from her horn.
* PlayingWithFire: Is known to use a heat beam.
* PunnyName: "Matterhorn" is the name of one of the highest mountains in the Alps. Here, it's to indicate her horn can create matter.

!!Fili-second

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who can run a number of miles in seconds. Pinkie Pie fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* {{Expy}}: Of Franchise/TheFlash and {{Quicksilver}}.
* PunnyName: It's a cross between "filly" and "millisecond", as in [[SuperSpeed the amount of time it takes her to travel halfway across Maretropolis]].
* SuperSpeed: She can travel 65 blocks ''and back'' in '''half a second'''.

!!Zapp

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who can control the forces of nature with her necklace. Rainbow Dash fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* AmuletOfConcentratedAwesome: Where she gets her weather abilities from.
* BlowYouAway: Can create tornados.
* {{Expy}}: Of Franchise/{{Thor}} and/or [[Franchise/XMen Storm]].
* ShockAndAwe: Her signature power.

!!Radiance

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who wears a magic bracelet that can make anything from her imagination appear. Rarity fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* {{Expy}}: Of Franchise/GreenLantern. Also, her constructs are purple-colored, similar to the Sapphire Star corps.
* ImaginationBasedSuperpower

!!Mistress Mare-vellous

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who wields a magic lasso that follows her every will. Applejack fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* BattleBoomerang: Her "hoofarangs", which latch onto other ponies' hooves and stop them in their tracks.
* EmpathicWeapon: She's psychically connected to her lasso, which moves wherever and however she wants it to.
* {{Expy}}: Of Franchise/WonderWoman (her lasso) and Franchise/{{Batman}} (her "hoofarangs").
* PunnyName: A cross between "mare" and "marvelous".

!!Saddle Rager

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who transforms into a powerful monster when she loses her temper. Fluttershy fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* HulkingOut: Her main power.
* {{Expy}}: Of SelfDemonstrating/TheIncredibleHulk.
* PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep: Her voice is much deeper when she's hulked out.
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry

!!Humdrum

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

The Power Ponies' bumbling and not-very-useful sidekick. Spike plays this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* AdaptationSpeciesChange: Spike, a dragon, plays the role of Humdrum but one of the covers from [[ComicBook/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicIDW My Little Pony comic series]] shows that Humdrum is actually a pony. Then again, the true appearance of the Power Ponies were never shown until then.
* TheLoad: He's "totally useless", according to Spike.
** TheMillstone: He ended up telling the Mane-iac about the Electro-Orb by accident, putting her EvilPlan into motion.
* PluckyComicRelief: The main reason why he's included in the comic.
* TheScrappy: Spike considers him to be this in-universe.
* {{Sidekick}}: For the Power Ponies, and not a very useful one at that.
* SuperheroesWearCapes

!!The Mane-iac

[[quoteright:320:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mlp_maneiac_4928.png]]

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

-->'''Voiced by:''' Ellen Kennedy

A flamboyant supervillain and the Power Ponies' ArchEnemy, the Mane-iac was the owner of a hair-care product company who suffered an unfortunate accident at her own shampoo factory, giving her mane strange powers while also [[LaughingMad driving her totally insane]]. She plots to destroy Maretropolis using the mysterious [[MacGuffin Electro-Orb]].

* ArchEnemy: For the Power Ponies.
* BondVillainStupidity: Rather than outright kill the Power Ponies once they're at her mercy, she instead sets up a DeathTrap and turns a blind eye to their "useless" sidekick Humdrum.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: After her accident, both her irises and her mane become green...
** RedEyesTakeWarning: ...and her pupils turn red.
* EvilIsHammy: You can tell she ''loves'' being an over-the-top supervillain.
* EvilGloating: She wouldn't be an over-the-top supervillain without an over-the-top monologue about her EvilPlan.
* EvilLaugh: All the time.
* {{Expy}}: She takes elements from several villains. Like [[WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls Sedusa]], she has PrehensileHair and an overall hair theme. Like [[Franchise/SpiderMan Doctor Octopus]], she's a MadScientist with superpowered appendages. And she's very reminiscent of SelfDemonstrating/TheJoker, from her insanity to her green hair to her incessant EvilLaughter to her origin (see FromNobodyToNightmare below).
* FromNobodyToNightmare: She was once an ordinary yet power-mad pony who owned a shampoo factory until [[FreakLabAccident she fell into a vat of chemicals]] that was then [[LightningCanDoAnything electrified]]. When she emerged, she was physically and mentally transformed.
* HurricaneOfPuns: Yeah, the word "mane" loses its [[HypocriticalHumor maneing]] after a while.
** PungeonMaster: Except her puns revolve around "mane", leading to some repetitiveness.
* KickTheDog: She loves reminding Humdrum of his uselessness, save [[TheMillstone when he unintentionally helps her evil plans]].
* LargeHam: Gives ''Discord'' a run for his money.
* LaughingMad: Her transformation caused her to go completely insane.
* {{Mooks}}: Has plenty of these.
* [[PrehensileHair Prehensile Mane]]: Her superpower.
* VillainBall: She captures the Mane Six, but thinks Spike is too "useless" to worry about, even [[KickTheDog ridiculing him]] about how harmless and pathetic he is. [[LetsGetDangerous He soon proves her wrong]].
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Green Hair]]: Her hair turned green after the accident.

[[folder:Bogus Characters]]
They are sort of like fictional characters, though they're not a straight forward or your typical example of one because their identity and "existence" was fabricated by someone or [[CollectiveIdentity a group of someones]] to pose as a real (InUniverse) individual or a group of individuals.
----
!!The Shadowbolts

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E2ElementsOfHarmony Elements of Harmony - Part 2]]"

-->'''Voiced by:''' TabithaStGermain (Female Shadowbolt)

A trio of pegasus ponies (one female and two males) who look exactly like the Wonderbolts but with a darker themed uniform. They appeared out of nowhere to tempt Rainbow Dash into leaving her group and join them.

* CallBack: We see the Shadowbolt uniform again in the episode "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E4LunaEclipsed Luna Eclipsed]]" as Rainbow Dash's [[YouMeanXmas Nightmare Night]] costume.
* [[spoiler:CollectiveIdentity]]: The Shadowbolts are actually [[spoiler:Nightmare Moon shapeshifted and split into three ponies.]]
* EvilCounterpart: To the Wonderbolts.
* [[spoiler:HiveMind]]: [[spoiler:The Shadowbolts are all Nightmare Moon.]]
* {{One Shot Character}}s: They are only in the second half of the pilot.
* VoiceForTheVoiceless: The female Shadowbolt speaks for the group. We never heard the other two speak. [[spoiler: This is probably because Nightmare Moon can't GenderFlip her voice despite having an excellent shapeshifting ability.]]

!!The Mysterious Mare Do Well
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Mare_Do_Well_by_vectorvector_3795.png]]

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E8TheMysteriousMareDoWell The Mysterious Mare Do Well]]"

A mysterious masked heroine and supposed rival of Rainbow Dash as Ponyville's hero. She is able to stop runaway carriages, predict when danger will occur, patch up dams with her magic and even fly. [[spoiler:It turns out that she's actually Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Twilight and Fluttershy donning a costume designed by Rarity in a ploy to try to break Rainbow Dash's heroism-inflated ego.]]

* TheAce: A mysterious super heroine superior to Rainbow Dash and with the super strength of an Earth Pony, the super magic of an Unicorn, the super flight of a Pegasus, the ability to predict the future, and near the end, seemingly teleport or be in two places at once? Totally a Mary Sue. [[spoiler:Actually she isn't. It was Applejack, Twilight, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie wearing near identical costumes (with modifications for unicorn or pegusus anatomy when needed) and taking turns whenever their single abilities would be handy, and all of them wearing it near the end to screw with Rainbow Dash, for good intentions, of course. Everyone else just assumed she was just a single super-pony and their awe & hype did the rest.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Fills this role in regards to Rainbow Dash.
* BadassCape: There was some justification behind it, since [[spoiler:it hides the lack of wings on a non-Pegasus.]]
* CaptainErsatz: Of any number of [[{{Zorro}} dark]] [[CyberSix caped]] [[WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck super]][[{{Batman}} heroes]] you wish. Costume-wise, she bears a great resemblance to both [[Characters/BatmanAndBatFamily Spoiler]] (aka Stephanie Brown).
* CoatHatMask: The sum total of her costume and for good reason. [[spoiler: The coat hides the lack of wings on a non-Pegasus, the hat the lack of a horn on a non-unicorn, and the mask hides identity.]]
* [[spoiler:CollectiveIdentity]]: Mare Do Well is actually [[spoiler:the rest of [[Characters/FriendshipIsMagicTheManeCast the mane six ponies]], except for Rarity[[note]]Though she did take part indirectly as the designer of Mare Do Well's costume.[[/note]], posing as a masked super hero.]]
* ColorCodedWizardry: Her magic aura is the same red-violet color as those of Twilight Sparkle and her family as well as [[AllThereInTheScript Amethyst Star]] ([[DependingOnTheArtist when Amethyst Star's magic aura isn't pink]]). [[spoiler:And for good reason, since Twilight's the only unicorn who played her.]]
* CompressedHair: Both her mane and her tail are completely hidden in her costume. {{Justified}}, like the rest of her CostumeTropes.
* TheCowl: Her costume and mysterious demeanor certainly invokes this trope.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Much like certain other caped crusaders, she's out to protect Ponyville despite her dark outfit and usually serious expression.
* DubNameChange: In the Japanese dub, she is called "Dark Mare" instead.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler: Possibly her being a WingedUnicorn (albeit only in appearance) is one to the fact that Twilight would later become an actual one, especially since Twilight's magenta magic aura is usually fairly unique to her, and Mare Do Well was shown to have wings shortly after using the same magenta magic.]]
* NiceHat: [[spoiler:Perfect for hiding both the presence, or lack, of a horn.]]
* OneShotCharacter: Only appears in "The Mysterious Mare Do Well".
* SuperheroesWearCapes: Justified [[spoiler: the cape hides the wings.]]
%%* SuperheroesWearTights
* TheVoiceless: She never says a single word. Totally justified since [[spoiler:she was Applejack, Twilight, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy in disguise and the voice would have given them away]]. Also used to reinforce her modest and humble nature.
* WingedUnicorn: Appears to be one [[spoiler:due to unicorn Twilight and pegasus Fluttershy being among the ponies who played her.]]

!!Bloomberg the Apple Tree

->'''Rarity:''' Applejack! Were you reading a bedtime story to... an apple tree?\\
'''Applejack:''' Heh... Uh... Well, ya know, being replanted in a whole new place is very upsettin' for a tree... An' Bloomberg here is one of my favorites.

-->'''Debut:''' "[[MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E21OverABarrel Over a Barrel]]"

An apple tree Applejack and co. are going to deliver to Apploosa. Bloomberg was her favorite apple tree and takes care of "him" with much love and care that she even tucked him in a bed and read bed time stories to him, much to Rarity's (and possibly the other's) dismay.

* CompanionCube: Applejack takes care of Bloomberg as if it were her own child. She even tucks it in a bed and tell bed time stories to it.
* [[ICallItVera I Call him Bloomberg]]
* OneShotCharacter: Only appears in "Over a Barrel".

!!Gummy's "Guests"

->'''Pinkie Pie:''' Thank you all so much for coming! It means so much to Gummy.

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E25PartyOfOne Party of One]]"

-->'''Voiced by:''' AndreaLibman (All of them in different accents)

A bunch of random objects who Pinkie Pie talks to during Gummy's "after birthday party" as a replacement for her friends. Pinkie Pie also gave them names (along with accented voices); They are Mister Turnip (A metal bucket with a bunch of turnips inside), Rocky (made up of three consecutively smaller rocks piled on top of each other), Sir Lintsalot (a rather large lump of lint), and Madame Le Flour (a big sack of flour). All of them wearing party hats.

* AmericanAccents: Rocky has a Bronx accent.
* CrossDressingVoices: InUniverse. A number of them are supposed to be male.
* CompanionCube: All of them are standins for real ponies because Pinkie thinks she's lost all her friends.
* EverythingSoundsSexierInFrench: Madame Le Flour has a French accent.
* IAmVeryBritish: Sir Lints-a-lot.
* ImaginaryFriend: To Pinkie Pie. They even move on their own in Pinkie Pie's head/imagination (though it's actually her making them move).
* JustAStupidAccent: Most of them have accents to make them sound foreign but they still speak in English.
* OneShotCharacter: They only appear in "Party of One".
* PunnyName: Mister Turnip (a bunch of turnip in a bucket), Rocky (a pile of rocks), Sir Lintsalot (a big lump of lint) and Madame Le Flour (a sack of flours).
* ReplacementGoldfish: To her friends that, as she perceived, left her.
* SimpletonVoice: Mister Turnip has a low and slow voice.
* ShoutOut:
** The episode title could be referring to ''Theatre/DinnerForOne'', which also includes a scene with someone walking around a table and faking the voices of the absent guests.
** The pile of rocks is called "Film/{{Rocky}}", and Pinkie Pie voices him in the manner of a SylvesterStallone impression.
* TalkingToThemself: After a while in the party scene we start to see them moving by themselves and talking back to Pinkie. The scene suddenly cuts and we see that Pinkie Pie is doing the voices for them.
* UnexplainedAccent: Not sure where Pinkie Pie got the ideas for their accents come from seeing that this isn't Earth (or any character with an accent for that matter)... but then again Apple Bloom spoke in French once and Pinkie was more insane than usual in this episode.
* {{Ventriloquism}}: So convincing that Rainbow Dash fell for it for a short while when Rocky "confronted" her.
* VoiceForTheVoiceless: Pinkie Pie does the voices for all of them. Especially when Rocky "confronted" Rainbow Dash (which was actually Pinkie Pie under the table manipulating him and talking for him).

!!Tom the Giant Diamond [[spoiler:(actually a boulder)]]

->'''Rarity:''' Forget it, Twilight. I know what you're up to. The second I go in, you'll have your little minion Spike come and take Tom!

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E1TheReturnOfHarmonyPart1 The Return of Harmony - Part 1]]"

A giant diamond that Discord use to "discord"[[note]]a fan term that pertains to what a happens to a pony when they are under Discord's spell.[[/note]] Rarity. Initially appeared to be a giant diamond. Rarity couldn't resist the temptation and vigorously dug it out by hoof. She from then on carries it on her back or pushes it around with disregard to its immense weight, greedily guarding it from the others with intense paranoia. To her it looked just like that, a giant diamond, but to others [[spoiler:it's nothing more than a large boulder.]]

* AllNaturalGemPolish: Of '''massive''' proportions. [[spoiler:It was later revealed to be just a giant boulder with an illusion spell cast on it.]]
* CompanionCube: Rarity loved the big thing so much that she treats it as if it were alive [[spoiler:until the spell on her and the boulder was broken.]]
* [[ICallItVera I Call him Tom]]: Rarity named the thing on "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E2TheReturnOfHarmonyPart2 The Return of Harmony - Part 2]]". Twilight started to call it Tom as well but in an ironic way.
* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: Rarity's word-for-word reaction once the spell is broken. (Complete with Applejack-induced CallBack a short while later.)
* OneShotCharacter: Only appears in "The Return of Harmony part 2"
* ShatteringTheIllusion: Twilight and co. managed to break the spell, making her see what the precious thing she is carrying truly is.
* {{Tuckerization}}: Named after Tom Sales, one of the show's storyboard artists.

!!Smarty Pants the Rag Doll
[[quoteright:150:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Smarty_pants_small_942.jpg]]

->'''Twilight:''' "This is Smarty Pants. She was mine when I was your age, and now I want to give her to you!"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E3LessonZero Lesson Zero]]"

Twilight Sparkle's old and raggedy childhood doll. "She" is a grey donkey rag doll with buttons for eyes (the other eye almost looked like it would fall off any second). She wears a polka dotted pants ([[CaptainObvious thus the "pants" part of her name]]) and also includes a notebook and a quill (thus the "smarty" part of her name) for, as Twilight Puts it, "when you want to pretend she's doing her homework!" She used the doll in a desperate attempt to write a lesson for Princess Celestia by casting a "Want-It Need-It" spell on it. [[GoneHorriblyRight It went as well as anyone might have guessed]]. Smarty Pants is currently in the possession of [[spoiler:Big [=McIntosh=].]]

* AppleOfDiscord:
** Twilight tries to use the doll as one of these. [[GoneHorriblyRight It works far too well]] after she uses a "Want-It Need-It" spell on it.
** Said doll was working as such even before the spell in question (although not as Twilight intended), see FailedASpotCheck below.
* AscendedExtra: She'll be [[http://cdn.toyark.com/news/attach/1/9/9/9/My-Little-Pony-Toy-Fair-2013-033_1360451576.jpg getting]] a molded toy.
* BitingTheHandHumor: Twilight Sparkle's description of her old Miss Smartypants doll and its accompanying accessories could be seen as a TakeThat at the ''Franchise/MyLittlePony'' toys themselves. (Which perhaps explains why [[spoiler:Big [=McIntosh=]]] is [[PeripheryDemographic the one who really loves the toy]].)
* CreepyDoll: Smarty Pants (granted, only because [[TheUnsmile Twilight]] is holding it).
* CompanionCube: This is Twilight's first study buddy; complete with her own homework!
* OneShotCharacter: Only appears in "Lesson Zero".
* PunnyName[=/=]StealthPun: [[DontExplainTheJoke Smarty Pants is a donkey]]. A ''smart ass'', if you will.

-->'''First Mention:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E4LunaEclipsed Luna Eclipsed]]"

* TheMagnificent: "The Bearded".

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

* {{Expy}}/GenderFlip: Possibly of G2's [[http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Clever_Clover Clever Clover.]]
%% * MagicKnight
* TheMagnificent: "The Clever"
* {{Seers}}: Implied, as she predicted that the founders would see reason.
* [[StraightMan Straight Pony]]: To Platinum.

!!Princess Platinum

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

One of the founders of Equestria and leader of the Earth ponies. Played by Pinkie Pie in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant.

* TheCaligula: A mild example before the Windigos' defeat; a leader who is annoyingly quirky instead of dangerously insane.
* CloudCuckoolander: See InsaneTrollLogic.

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E13HearthsWarmingEve Hearth's Warming Eve]]"

!!Scorpan

-->'''First Mentioned:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E25TwilightsKingdomPart1 Twilight's Kingdom]]"

----
* BlackCloak: A somewhat tattered one at that for the spookiness.
* MadnessMantra: "Who's got my rusty horseshoe...?"
* NightmareFuel: InUniverse for Scootaloo.

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who can run a number of miles in seconds. Pinkie Pie fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* {{Expy}}: Of Franchise/TheFlash and {{Quicksilver}}.
* PunnyName: It's a cross between "filly" and "millisecond", as in [[SuperSpeed the amount of time it takes her to travel halfway across Maretropolis]].
* SuperSpeed: She can travel 65 blocks ''and back'' in '''half a second'''.

!!Zapp

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who can control the forces of nature with her necklace. Rainbow Dash fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* AmuletOfConcentratedAwesome: Where she gets her weather abilities from.
* BlowYouAway: Can create tornados.
* {{Expy}}: Of Franchise/{{Thor}} and/or [[Franchise/XMen Storm]].
* ShockAndAwe: Her signature power.

!!Radiance

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

* ImaginationBasedSuperpower

!!Mistress Mare-vellous

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

One of the Power Ponies, who transforms into a powerful monster when she loses her temper. Fluttershy fills this role when trapped in the ''Power Ponies'' comic.

* HulkingOut: Her main power.
* {{Expy}}: Of SelfDemonstrating/TheIncredibleHulk.
* PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep: Her voice is much deeper when she's hulked out.
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry

!!Humdrum

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

* SuperheroesWearCapes

!!The Mane-iac

[[quoteright:320:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mlp_maneiac_4928.png]]

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS4E6PowerPonies Power Ponies]]"

-->'''Voiced by:''' Ellen Kennedy

* EvilLaugh: All the time.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bogus Characters]]
They are sort of like fictional characters, though they're not a straight forward or your typical example of one because their identity and "existence" was fabricated by someone or [[CollectiveIdentity a group of someones]] to pose as a real (InUniverse) individual or a group of individuals.
----
!!The Shadowbolts

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E2ElementsOfHarmony Elements of Harmony - Part 2]]"

-->'''Voiced by:''' TabithaStGermain (Female Shadowbolt)

* EvilCounterpart: To the Wonderbolts.

!!Gabby Gums

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E23PonyvilleConfidential Ponyville Confidential]]"

An unseen informant for the "Foal Free Press" (a school newspaper) who reports personal and/or confidential information to the public without the pony's consent.

* BlatantLies: "[Twilight] Was a Canterlot Snob", "Rainbow Dash: speed demon or super softie", "The Cakes are splitting up"
* [[spoiler:CollectiveIdentity]]: Gabby Gums is actually [[spoiler:[[Characters/FriendshipIsMagicTheCutieMarkCrusaders the Cutie Mark Crusaders]].]]
* [[EtTuBrute Et Vos, Floscula Mali, Scutalu, et Dulcilla Pulchra]][[note]]Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle, as translated for the Latin Wikipedia page[[/note]] When Gabby Gums's indentity is revealed, the ponies of Ponyvile don't take it well.
* FailOSuckyname: Gabby Gums? Really?
* TheGhost: The rest of Ponyville's population don't know who Gabby Gums really is. [[spoiler:Then they discovered at the second half of the episode.]]

[[folder:Inanimate Objects]]
Inanimate objects that other characters have treated like a living individual; a CompanionCube if you will.
----
!!Bloomberg the Apple Tree

->'''Rarity:''' Applejack! Were you reading a bedtime story to... an apple tree?\\
'''Applejack:''' Heh... Uh... Well, ya know, being replanted in a whole new place is very upsettin' for a tree... An' Bloomberg here is one of my favorites.

-->'''Debut:''' "[[MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E21OverABarrel Over a Barrel]]"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E25PartyOfOne Party of One]]"

* IAmVeryBritish: Sir Lints-a-lot.
* ShoutOut:

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E1TheReturnOfHarmonyPart1 The Return of Harmony - Part 1]]"

-->'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E3LessonZero Lesson Zero]]"

* AppleOfDiscord:
** Twilight tries to use the doll as one of these. [[GoneHorriblyRight It works far too well]] after she uses a "Want-It Need-It" spell on it.
** Said doll was working as such even before the spell in question (although not as Twilight intended), see FailedASpotCheck below.
* AscendedExtra: She'll be [[http://cdn.toyark.com/news/attach/1/9/9/9/My-Little-Pony-Toy-Fair-2013-033_1360451576.jpg getting]] a molded toy.
