* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: As leader of Wu he tends to be level headed and rational. Particularly played up in 7 and 8. Subverted historically when he supposedly went mentally insane and started to make even worse decisions in his life as the years went on.

Subverted historically when he supposedly went mentally insane due to SuccessionCrisis between his two sons and falling out with Lu Xun; and started to make even worse decisions in his life as the years went on.

* WeaponOfChoice: His weapon changes overtime where in ''2'' and ''3'', his low level weapons are standard iron sword while his high level swords in ''3'' look more like scimitar. From ''4'' to ''5'', this is his primary weapon. He uses dual knives in ''6'' and a SinisterScythe in ''7''. ''7: Empires'' assigns him [[EpicFlail the flail]] moveset, albeit modified to suit his personality. This is also more accurate to his appearance in the novel where he also uses flail as weapon.

However in ''9'', he gets a chain sickle as his weapon.

* FightingWithChucks: His WeaponOfChoice is nunchaku in his debut which was replaced with a spear in ''6'' and settled on a ''sansetsukon'' (three-section rod) in ''6: Special''. He gets them back in ''7'', but trades them for the sansetsukon for ''8''.

* AnimalMotifs: His [[TheRedBaron nom de guerre]] is "the Tiger of Jiangdong."
** NobleWolf[=/=]SavageWolves: Actually has his classic weapons set in the Asian ports (though in both Asian and English ports in ''3''), with all of them being named after the Sirius (heavenly wolf) star. It's most likely a nod to his negative connotation given to him and his sons in Book of Wei via Gongsun Dun's entry; the devs at Omega Force [[InsultBackfire instead decided to make it a proud motif for him]].
