Added DiffLines:

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Cooler noted he gained a fifth transformation as a result of training where Frieza did not. Much later, Frieza would decide to actually train for the first time for his life, and he ''also'' achieved a fifth transformation, although radically different from his brother's.

Added DiffLines:

* InformedAbility: Cooler has three recursive transformations that disguise his true power just like his brother, making his true form the fourth, but unlike Frieza, he chooses to remain in his normal form by default and makes no attempt to hide how strong he is normally. Instead, he works his way ''up'' the line of transformation instead of toying with his opponents by taking weaker forms just to give them a false sense of hope.

* {{Expy}}: Give Majin Buu a devil motif and skip Super Buu, and this is more or less what you get.

* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: He says that his brother was always trying to best him, but Cooler himself is basically Frieza +1. In addition to being much more powerful, he also possesses many abilities that Frieza notably lacked; he appears to be able to sense ki, he can control himself in his true form all the time, and he's higher in the hierarchy of the empire.

In addition to being much more powerful, he also possesses many abilities that Frieza notably lacked; he appears to be able to sense ki, he can control himself in his true form all the time, and he's higher in the hierarchy of the empire. Expanded materials elaborate that Cooler is stronger than his brother was at 50 percent on Namek, but that he needed the extra transformation to get ahead of his brother's full power.

* StrongerSibling: To Frieza, with even an extra [[OneWingedAngel transformation]] to run the point home. Eventually inverted as Frieza makes a comeback, becomes far more powerful than Cooler even in his first form, and unlocks his own evolved state. At least Cooler is still more savvy and [[spoiler:has a SuperMode that doesn't bleed stamina]].

At least Cooler is still more savvy and [[spoiler:has a SuperMode that doesn't bleed stamina]]. Even at the time of the original movie, however, Cooler's fourth form was only somewhat over half as strong as Frieza's, and he actually needed the extra transformation to get ahead of Frieza, which he flat-out admits in the English dub. Cooler was, however, consistently much more skilled [[soiler until Frieza's ''second'' revival.]]

** The truth, however, is more complicated: nursery personnel were commenting on Baby Goku and Brolly. They praised Goku for having a great cry like what happened in the Bardock movie, while they panned Broly as a wimp for crying over Goku bothering in spite of being stronger. And then he ended up being stabbed as a baby and tossed into the garbage with his father. So it's actually a subverted trope, for to Broly, Goku being held as being better than him at something was the start of everything going wrong in his life.

* FlatCharacter: He hates Kakarot and he's really powerful. That's all there really is to know about Broly, unfortunately. His debut movie doesn't help, as the movie doesn't really focus on or even attempt to explore WHY he's as insane as he is and more on his father Paragus' grudge against the Vegeta Dynasty before Broly breaks free of his father's control for good and everything goes downhill.

That said, it ''is'' implied he has a FreudianExcuse, which is more than can be said for literally every other villain in the series except Vegeta.
