!!Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department

[[folder:Juzo Megure]]
!!Inspector Juzo Megure
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/{{Chafurin}} (JP) / Mark Stoddard (EN, Creator/{{Funimation}}) / Jake Eberle (EN, TMS[=/=][[Creator/BangZoomEntertainment Bang Zoom]]); Guillermo Romano, José Archimides and/or Roberto Alexander (first Latin American Spanish dub), Roberto Mendiola (second Latin American Spanish dub, movies 1 and 2 and then movie 18 onwards, plus ''Manga/MagicKaito 1412''), Rubén González (third Latin American Spanish dub), Francisco Alborch (second European Spanish dub, first part), Creator/FranciscoAndresValdivia (second European Spanish dub, second part and movies), Masahiko Nishimura (2006 Live-Action Drama Actor), Masato Ibu (2011 Live-Action Drama Actor)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/infobox___juzo_megure.jpg]]

A police inspector, and the superior to the recurring officers of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

[[ThemeNaming Mandatory naming note]]: His name came from [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jules_Maigret Jules Maigret]].

DubNameChange: Joseph Maguire.
----
* AgeGapRomance: An implied example. He was already working on the police force when he met his wife, who was at the time a high schooler.
* BadassMoustache: And perhaps looks more badass than [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass Kogoro]]'s moustache.
* BerserkButton: Any case that bares a resemblance to the first one he ever worked.
* BigOlEyebrows: Often concealed by his NiceHat, though.
* BodyguardCrush: He would meet his future wife when being assigned to protect her from a SerialKiller.
* CharacterDevelopment: He's a borderline CluelessDetective in the beginning of the series, only slightly better than Kogoro and was often shamelessly reliant on Kogoro while also often [[NotNowKiddo dismissing Conan]]. And even before Kogoro, he was reliant on Shinichi and Yusaku which even Kogoro had to call him out of it in a flashback during "Yusaku's Cold Case". As the series goes on, he has become more perceptive and definitely more skilled than Kogoro ([[OvershadowedByAwesome though no more than Conan and few others]]) as well as more willing to listen to Conan and the Detective Boys. He also grows increasingly aware of being OvershadowedByAwesome by private/amateur detectives like Heiji, Subaru, Amuro, and Sera though he still reluctantly accepts their help. He's also often annoyed to Kogoro's presence, contrasting to him being reliant on Kogoro in the series' beginning. Justified from the story's standpoint: They needed to show how awesome Conan truly is compared to the adults and authorities.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His first case was dealing with a SerialKiller who targeted high school girls wearing long skirts. He would meet his future wife who, angry by the police and their inaction, would make herself a decoy to draw out the killer; as such, a young Megure was assigned as her bodyguard. Midori's plan worked, and while the killer was caught, it left both her and Megure (especially the former) with severe wounds and a lot of trauma for Megure.
* FatAndSkinny: The round and large Fat to Midori's petite and trim Skinny.
* AFatherToHisMen: Sato sees him this way. Her own father was a policeman who died on the job and Megure reminds her of him.
* HappilyMarried: While their marriage is hardly touched upon, it's clear that he and Midori are in a loving one with only a few fights.
* InspectorLestrade: He's portrayed as competent at his job - but Shinichi is just that [[OvershadowedByAwesome much better than him]], and Megure especially has the good sense to defer to him.
* JerkassHasAPoint: His initial disapproval of having a then 15-year-old Shinichi and later on, the Detective Boys, work a case is understandable. They are children and could either hinder said case or get hurt.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Megure is prone to occasional shouting fits whenever something does not go right or when his temper gets the better of him, but has proven to be someone with high morals who cares deeply for his underlings.
* LargeAndInCharge: A large fellow and inspector of the Tokyo police.
* MadeOfIron: The guy gets ''a metal pipe'' to the head [[spoiler: [[PapaWolf to protect Sonoko from a]] SerialKiller chasing her]] and isn't knocked out. And even deals a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to the culprit.
* NiceHat: Is ''never ever'' seen without one. Even if he changes his usual clothes or ''winds up in the hospital'', he ''always'' keeps a hat on him. He wears a fedora now, but 10 years earlier he wore a flat cap.
* PapaWolf: He is ''very'' protective of the kids who hang out with Mouri and of his own subordinates. Better shown when he goes ItsPersonal mode in a case involving young women being attacked: he refuses to let ActionGirl Satou act as a decoy once his BerserkButton was pressed, and later took ''a metal pipe to his head'' while protecting Sonoko from the culprit. [[spoiler: It's explained that this comes from one of his first cases, where he failed to protect a schoolgirl posing as a decoy and she almost died. Fortunately, the girl got better... [[RescueRomance and then they got]] HappilyMarried.]]
* ParentalSubstitute: Sato sees him as a father figure.
* PleaseKeepYourHatOn: The reason he wears this hat is to [[spoiler:hide the [[GoodScarsEvilScars ugly scar]] he sustained in the incident from his first case. Not out of shame, but to avoid questions on why he and his wife have similar scars]].
* PoliceAreUseless: {{Zigzagged|Trope}}. On one hand he depends on Shinichi/Conan to solve his cases and rarely makes any noteworthy deductions himself, and as a cop, he very much goes by the rules and is not accustomed to taking a leap of faith. On the other hand he is very useful as Shinichi's trusted police contact, granting him access to investigation sites and case info as well as some indirect influence with the police. Furthermore, if neither Kogoro, Sonoko or Agasa are around, Conan would drop enough hints and evidence for Megure and the other policemen to figure out the culprit on their own. He is also quite the badass when given the chance, see MadeOfIron below.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: While he finds it little offbeat that children like Conan and the Detective Boys quite often arrive to crime scenes or are present by pure chance, he's usually ready to listen to them and lets them help with investigation when they prove themselves capable for it.
* RescueRomance: Aside from the BodyguardCrush, he saved Midori from being killed by the SerialKiller via run over by a car.
* ScarsAreForever: Inspector Megure has a scar under his hat and his wife Midori has one on her forehead; both came from an incident many years ago, [[spoiler:when both were run over by a SerialKiller.]]
* TeamDad: Megure acts as a stern, but fair paternal figure to his subordinates.
* UglyGuyHotWife: While he's not exactly a {{Gonk}}... have you seen his adorable-looking wife Midori?

[[folder:Wataru Takagi]]
!!Detective Sergeant Wataru Takagi
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/WataruTakagi (JP) / Doug Burks (EN, Creator/{{Funimation}}) / Creator/ChristopherBevins (EN, TMS[=/=][[Creator/BangZoomEntertainment Bang Zoom]]), Humberto Amor and Víctor Mares Jr. (first Latin American Spanish dub), Sergio Aliaga (third Latin American Spanish dub), Alfredo Martínez (second European Spanish dub and movies), Yuichi Tsuchiya (Live-Action Drama Actor)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_takagi.png]]

A sergeant of the police force who started off as an anime-only character before getting appearances in the manga. His timid personality makes him the ButtMonkey of sorts to the rest of the police force.

His developing relationship with Sato plays as a major sidestory of the series.

[[ThemeNaming Mandatory Naming Note]]: See his voice actor.

DubNameChange: Inspector Henry Wilder.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Unlike Sato, he frequently suffers injuries or humiliation whenever he became the focus of the plot.
* AlmostKiss: Two (or three) with Sato. [[spoiler: After all that teasing, [[TheBigDamnKiss they finally did.]]. And actually had ''TWO'' kisses!]]
* AloneWithThePsycho: [[spoiler:Episode 535, when he catches a huge DistressBall. Sato calls him to his cellphone and the killer tries forcing Takagi to tell her to come... [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome and he breaks his phone instead to cut off direct contact]]. The police come to his aid, but Takagi still gets shot ''and'' had already been beaten bloody [[BatterUp with a baseball bat]].]]
* AmbiguouslyBrown: He initially looks ''very'' tanned, but as ArtEvolution sets in [[http://melkiorgin.tumblr.com/post/108695354192/look-at-how-this-man-has-evolved he looks quite paler.]]
* AscendedExtra: He was originally an unnamed sidekick under Megure in the anime; later ascended to major character status.
* BadassInDistress: The guy has been in life-threatening danger HOW many times...?
* BettyAndVeronica: The friendly, insecure, poor "Betty" to Shiratori's jerk-ish, arrogant, rich "Veronica" for Sato's "Archie". [[spoiler:Sato chooses Takagi.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Push come to shove, Takagi is not one to be messed with.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: Gender-flipped. He's the Gentle Boy (a major NiceGuy who promises to never leave her alone) to Sato's Brooding Girl (struggling over the lost of her FirstLove and believing she's a "curse").
* ButtMonkey: He is initially self-conscious and bumbling, but gradually grows out of this as per CharacterDevelopment.
* CannotSpitItOut: His love for Sato. She can't spit out her feelings for him much better either.
* CanonImmigrant: On top of his AscendedExtra status, he appeared (and was named) in the anime first. In the manga, he first shows up when the Detective Boys come to the MPD to be interviewed.
* CharacterDevelopment: Takagi shows promise as a good officer and grows in self-confidence as the series progresses. He is one of the few officers who trusts Conan's judgments the most, listening to him at case scenes to find important evidence and sometimes even letting Conan take the lead in their investigation (the case with Sato handcuffed to the wrong suspect in the bathroom being a good example).
* ChickMagnet: Surprisingly, Takagi gets a lot of attention from the opposite sex.
** In the end of the LoveTriangle, [[spoiler:Sato chooses him]].
** According to Yumi, some girls in the police apartment are attracted to him because they find him moe-level adorable.
** Even [[spoiler: '''[[DarkActionGirl Chianti]]''']], of all people, said he was cute.
** Naeko comments that Takagi is popular with the ladies from the traffic department.
* CovertPervert: Sometime after [[spoiler:he and Sato became a couple they began to have sex]], and there have been a couple of times where Takagi is rather ''excited'' of either talking about it or wanting to do it.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: Heavily implied to be the former in Files 806 and 867. Pretty much all but stated in File 869 when [[spoiler: he thinks [[MistakenForPregnant Sato is pregnant and he's the dad of the baby]].]]
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In the early chapters/episodes, Takagi had ''very'' tanned skin, but it has become progressively more pale.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In earlier episodes, Takagi's hairstyle was more spikier. His current one is in a combed over style.
* ExtremeDoormat: Takes borderline abuse and straight up harassment from his co-workers, and specially Shiratori, whenever they think he is making progress with Sato and can barely say a few words when they are at it. Somewhat justified in Shiratori's case, since he holds a quite higher police rank than Takagi does.
* {{Fanboy}}: Of famed wrestlers Bruiser Brody and Keiji Mutoh.
* FriendOnTheForce: Despite Conan being a child, Takagi puts a lot of trust in him and his abilities, and will often go out on a limb to help him out. This trust is clearly returned, as more and more Takagi is becoming Conan's go-to guy when dealing with matters involving the police force.
* FriendToAllChildren: Although they sometimes [[ButtMonkey make fun of him,]] Ayumi thinks he's cute and he's one of the few adults who actually listen to Conan and the other kids.
* HiddenDepths: One of his hobbies includes following the international wrestling scene, being a fan of wrestlers such as Bruiser Brody and Keiji Mutoh, and recognizing a move that Ran does as the "Shining Wizard," a finishing move of Mutoh's. In summary, his hobbies involve a lot of martial arts and sports.
* HotBlooded: Takagi's the standard Hot Blooded Cop, typically restrained only by his continued presence near Megure.
* InsecureLoveInterest: One of the hindrances behind his and Sato's developing romantic relationship was due to his own insecurity that she would choose him.
* LoveTriangle: With Sato and Shiratori. [[spoiler: Sato chooses Takagi. Plus, Shiratori ultimately finds his ''actual'' true love.]]
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Him and Sato. He isn't super girlish but he's mentioned to be a "vegetarian" (non-aggressive) kind of man ([[ActionSurvivor unless he's in the line of duty]]) and is a dorky NiceGuy, whereas Sato is a tomboyish and straightforward ActionGirl. Rather hilariously lampshaded when Sato, [[ItMakesSenseInContext dressed in a Western style bridal gown]], manages to judo-flip Takagi, dressed in a tuxedo, when she mistook him for the fleeing suspect. (This picture then ends up as a building sized advertisement spread for the location where the "wedding" was being held.
* MasterOfDisguise: Once in a while he has acted as a decoy. [[spoiler: Cruelly subverted once, when his chosen disguise accidentally triggered Sato as he unadvertedly made himself look a LOT like her [[TheLostLenore Lost Lenore]] Matsuda.]]
* NiceGuy: When off-duty, no one can't find a sweeter person.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler: With Sato.]]
* PocketProtector: [[spoiler: What saves his life when he's shot in the "AloneWithThePsycho" incident is a thick mahjong tile that he had in his breast pocket (and which also was the evidence). Shiratori lampshades it by saying "this is so like in novels and movies."]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: To Conan and the Detective Boys, along with Sato. He always listens to them and takes them seriously, and doesn't hesitate to rush to their aid whenever they ask for it.
* RescueRomance: [[spoiler:With Sato. She's his ActionGirlfriend and ''did'' lose her FirstLove to a MadBomber, so any time the guy's in risk she's gone ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend on the culprits.]]
* RichSuitorPoorSuitor: The "poor" suitor, as he's middle class. [[spoiler: He still wins.]]
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The Savvy Guy (more down-to-Earth and kinda dorky) to Sato's Energetic Girl (an ActionGirl and sometimes has quite the GenkiGirl mannerisms).
* SecondLove:[[spoiler:To Sato, as her FirstLove Matsuda died tragically.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The passive Sensitive Guy to Date's aggressive Manly Man.
* ShipperOnDeck: One can say that [[spoiler:he's just glad Shiratori isn't interfering in his romantic involvement with Sato]], but Takagi ''is'' genuninely fond of the idea of [[spoiler:him and Kobayashi-sensei]] together.
%%* TallDarkAndHandsome
* TragicKeepsake: The black notepad and ring he carries once belong [[spoiler:to his mentor, Wataru Date. The latter was something that Date wanted to offer to his girlfriend.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: Takagi slapped Sato when she was about to kill an unarmed subject.

[[folder:Miwako Sato]]
!!Assistant Inspector Miwako Sato
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AtsukoYuya (JP), Kate Oxley (EN, Creator/{{Funimation}}), Katelyn Gault (EN, TMS[=/=][[Creator/BangZoomEntertainment Bang Zoom]]), Javiera del Pino y Ariella Yuri (third Latin American Spanish dub), Mercedes Espinosa (second European Spanish dub and movies), Natsuhi Ueno (Live-Action Drama Actress)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miwako_sato_detective_conan.jpg]]

An assistant inspector and the leading outgoing female of the police force.

Her developing relationship with Takagi plays as a major sidestory of the series.

DubNameChange: Detective Simone Miwako (her last name is never aired in English versions)
----
* ActionGirl: A very prominent one alongside Ran and Kazuha.
* ActionGirlfriend: She's this towards Takagi, despite both of them being older than the standard.
* AlmostKiss: Two (or three) with Takagi. [[spoiler: After all that teasing, [[TheBigDamnKiss they finally did.]]. And actually had ''TWO'' kisses!]]
* BettyAndVeronica:
** The "Archie" for Takagi's friendly, insecure, poor "Betty" to Shiratori's jerk-ish, arrogant, rich "Veronica". [[spoiler:Sato chooses Takagi.]]
** [[spoiler:The aggressive, ActionGirl cop "Veronica" to Kobayashi's gentle, ShrinkingViolet teacher "Betty" for Shiratori's "Archie". Subverted in that Shiratori ''thought'' that Sato was his true love he met in childhood...which was actually Kobayashi; besides that, Sato is an OfficialCouple with Takagi and Kobayashi ''thought'' Shiratori was only interested in her because of her resemblance to Sato. Thankfully, it was all sorted out.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While Satou is the most amiable of the officers, she's the most dangerous of them as well.
* BigEater: Her favorite hobbies include attending all-you-can-eat offers and going out to eat ramen.
* BoyishShortHair: Has considerably short hair, her job is a police officer, and she tends to be quite tough and aggressive.
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: She attempts this once towards Takagi, [[spoiler: because as a result of Matsuda's death, she believes that she has a CartwrightCurse.]]
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: Gender-flipped. She's the Brooding Girl (struggling over the lost of her FirstLove and believing she's a "curse") to Takagi's Gentle Boy (a major NiceGuy who promises to never leave her alone).
* CharacterDevelopment: Over her romantic arc with Takagi, Sato gradually accepts the death of Matsuda (her first love) and becomes more open to Takagi in their relationship.
* ChristmasCake: Her mom thinks that, at age 28, she is one. She's not. [[spoiler: Mrs. Sato still arranged her a date with Shiratori to try fixing it, but Conan and Dr. Araide helped Takagi "fix" that.]]
* CluelessDudeMagnet: Sato doesn't know that the whole police department all have a romantic attraction to her...or is at least trying to ignore that...
* CoolBigSis: Acts as a surrogate one to the Detective Boys.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Eighteen years ago, when she was still at elementary school, Miwako lost her father, Masayoshi Sato, in a traffic accident as he was about to deliver a bank robber to the police - an event that marked her life. Years later when she joined the police force, Sato gained feeling for fellow officer Matsuda...who later died in a bombing. Because of these two brutal deaths, she gained a perception that she was "bad luck".
* {{Determinator}}: Sato goes exceedingly far in pursue of a criminals. Even things like buildings and traffic will not stop her.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Earning the title [[spoiler: Silver Witch of Fuyuna Mountain]].
* DudeMagnet:
** '''Every other single man in her department''' (save for Chiba, [[ChildhoodFriendRomance but that's something else]]) are fighting to be her boyfriend. Best seen in "Metropolitan Police Detective Love Story 2" when Megure radios any available officer to help find Sato, who he fears may be held captive by a potential CopKiller. Everyone ranging from the anti-riot officers to the lowly beat cop in a koban rushes in to help Megure when they hear that she was captured.
** She was in a LoveTriangle with Takagi and Shiratori. [[spoiler:In Shiratori's case it was because of mistaken identity, and his actual true love was [[CoolTeacher Sumiko Kobayashi]]. And even before that revelation, Satou ultimately choose [[NiceGuy Takagi]]]].
** [[spoiler:Korn]] even compliments her good looks.
* FairCop: A gorgeous and very active woman who loves her cop job.
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Franchise/LupinIII.
* {{Foil}}: In contrast of Sato's physical resemblance to [[spoiler:Kobayashi-sensei]] the two women have almost entirely different personality traits: While Sato is reckless, outspoken, daring, and impulsive, [[spoiler:Kobayashi-sensei is more gentle, softspoken, cautious, and careful in any given situation.]]
* FriendToAllChildren: Has a fondness towards kids, which might be a primary reason why she listens to Conan.
* IdenticalStranger: She looks exactly like Inspector Shiratori's childhood crush, [[spoiler: who turns out to be Kobayashi-sensei.]]
* InsecureLoveInterest: Because of all of the death she had in her life, she thought she was some sort of "omen" and that she and Takagi shouldn't become a couple because of it.
* LoveTriangle: With Takagi and Shiratori. [[spoiler: She chooses Takagi. Plus, Shiratori ultimately finds his ''actual'' true love.]]
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: She and Takagi. He isn't super girlish but he's mentioned to be a "vegetarian" (non-aggressive) kind of man ([[ActionSurvivor unless he's in the line of duty]]) and is a NiceGuy, whereas Sato is a tomboyish and straightforward ActionGirl.
* MasterOfDisguise: She disguises herself several times, mostly to act as a decoy for other women who are in danger or to lure out prospect killers.
* MeaningfulName:
** Her first name "Miwako" is written with the characters for "beautiful" and "child" referring to her DudeMagnet attraction and FriendToAllChildren personality, respectively.
** "Sato" is Japanese for "sugar" reflecting her being a BigEater and a NiceGirl simultaneously.
* MistakenForPregnant: In chapter 867, Takagi, Yumi and Naeko mistook her action for "her period hasn't come" [[spoiler: which subtly confirms that yes, she and Takagi are sexually active.]] Of course [[spoiler:it's just that [[LostWeddingRing she temporarily loses the ring]] that Takagi gave her]].
* NiceGirl: One of the easiest people to get along with.
* ObliviousToLove: While quite a few people in this series has this, she has all of them beat; she has never once twigged to the fact that Takagi, Shiratori, and ''every other single man in her department'' find (or used to find) her attractive, often leading to humorous misunderstandings. (Especially when a mischievous Yumi shamelessly [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments takes advantage of that cluelessness to prank the rest of the department.]])
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:With Takagi.]]
* PluckyGirl: This lady isn't exactly prone to give up on her purposes.
* RemembertheNewGuy: Comes off like this in the English dubbed movies. Like Ai, her debut episode wasn't dubbed officially by Funimation.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Along with Takagi, she overlooks Conan's age and gives him the benefit of the doubt that he's serious, and also shares information with him and allows him to conduct investigations.
* RescueRomance: [[spoiler:With Takagi. She's his ActionGirlfriend and ''did'' lose her FirstLove to a MadBomber, so any time the guy's in risk she's gone ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend on the culprits.]]
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The Energetic Girl (an ActionGirl and sometimes has quite the GenkiGirl mannerisms) to Takagi's Savvy Guy (more down-to-Earth and kinda dorky).
* SecondLove: Sato's first love is Jinpei Matsuda, who died in a bombing case. Her next relationship with Takagi is much more successful to the point that its progression helped Sato overcoming Matsuda's death.
* ShipperOnDeck: Sato really ships [[spoiler:Shiratori and Kobayashi.]]
-->'''Sato''' [in a VERY giddy, almost GenkiGirl-like tone and attitude]: "Sooooo, where's the [[spoiler: teacher]] that [[spoiler: Shiratori-kun]] is so in love with?! Huh?!"
* SingleTargetSexuality: The only man she has ever shown an ''open'' romantic attraction towards is Takagi. Not a straight example as she was hung up on Matsuda before the case involving his death was resolved but even then she was nowhere near as open about it with him as she is with Takagi and a large part of her issues with Matsuda were tied to his being TheLostLenore to her.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan:
** [[spoiler:She chooses [[RichSuitorPoorSuitor the Nice Guy over the White Prince]]. The biggest reasons for her choice are how kind and gentle he is, as well as him [[PleaseDontLeaveMe promising that he won't leave her alone,]] something very important for a woman who lost both her father and her FirstLove ''very'' messily.]]
** She had a thing for Jinpei Matsuda for how hardworking and kind he was.
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:For Ran, in the fourth movie. [[BreakTheCutie Which causes poor Ran]] a ''bad'' case of TraumaInducedAmnesia. She almost dies, but ultimately gets better.]]
* {{Tomboy}}: Specially when compared to [[GirlyGirl Yumi or Kobayashi]].
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Heaven help you if you so much [[BewareTheNiceOnes as lay a finger on Takagi.]]

[[folder:Ninzaburou Shiratori]]
!!Inspector Ninzaburou Shiratori
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KanetoShiozawa / Creator/KazuhikoInoue (JP) / Creator/EricVale (EN, Funimation), Creator/GregChun (EN, TMS[=/=][[Creator/BangZoomEntertainment Bang Zoom]]), Creator/JesusBarrero (second Latin American Spanish dub, movies 1 and 2 only), Arturo Cataño (second Latin American Spanish dub, movie 18 onwards), Orlando Alfaro (third Latin American Spanish dub), Miguel Ángel del Hoyo (second European Spanish dub and movies)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ninzaburo_shiratori_profile_2.jpg]]

An assistant inspector (later promoted to police inspector) of the police force. Similar to Takagi, Shiratori started off as a movie-only character before being implemented into the manga.

He plays as the love-rival for Takagi towards Sato [[spoiler:before finding out that he was chasing after the wrong woman the entire time; that woman really being Kobayashi.]]

DubNameChange: Inspector Nicholas Santos.
----
* AnimeHair: ... What's up with his bangs?
* BadassBookworm: A former prospect lawyer, he knows everything about the law and once uses it as an effective way to [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech call out the culprit of a crime.]]
-->"Criminal Law, Article #36. An act unavoidably performed to protect the rights of oneself or any other person against imminent and unlawful infringement is not punishable. An act exceeding the limits of self-defense may lead to the punishment being reduced or may exculpate the offender in light of circumstances. These are the provisions of self-defense. At the time of the crime, you used a bladed weapon with the intent to kill. So none of these circumstances apply. Not to mention, turning a bat which fulfills dreams into a weapon to silence people earns you no right to talk about dreams at all."
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: He seems to be a strong believer of this. [[spoiler: He referred to the girl he loved as his "girl of destiny".]]
* BettyAndVeronica:
** The jerk-ish, arrogant, rich "Veronica" to Takagi's friendly, insecure, poor "Betty" for Sato's "Archie". [[spoiler:Sato chooses Takagi.]]
** [[spoiler:The "Archie" for Sato's aggressive, ActionGirl cop "Veronica" to Kobayashi's gentle, ShrinkingViolet teacher "Betty".
* BigOlEyebrows: Shiratori has pretty big ones.
* CanonImmigrant: He first appeared in the {{Non Serial Movie}}s, then became a regular in the manga.
* CharacterDevelopment:
** Shiratori more than once tried to use [[PrincelyYoungMan his riches]] to [[RichSuitorPoorSuitor get an edge over Takagi]] [[LoveTriangle over Sato]] in the past, but now that he's with [[spoiler: Kobayashi]] he does it solely to make [[TrueLove her]] happy.
** He's noticeably more friendly towards Conan, Ai and the Detective Boys as time passes.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: [[spoiler:With Kobayashi-sensei. He ''thought'' that Sato was a girl he once saved years ago (and who he had liked ever since then), which sparked the LoveTriangle. She actually was...not, and he lost to Takagi anyway. Some time later, the girl he liked as a child ''did'' appear [[FirstGirlAfterAll and she turned out]] to be the aforementioned Kobayashi. They're together now.]]
* CrazyJealousGuy:
** His main reason for wanting to stop Takagi's romance with Sato is jealousy. [[spoiler:He stops after learning that Sato isn't his "girl of destiny".]]
** Has this again, except for [[spoiler:Kobayashi]], and got quite irritated at Chiba's friendly chatter with her.
* CulturedBadass: His favorite hobbies include studying architecture, cooking, and collecting wine, including his favorite ''Romane Conti''. Shiratori is able to solve cases that seem to have a large culture (he has been able to answer Megura on his question about the temperature in the episode 682), but he do well especially when faced with topics pertinent to his upper class tastes.
* DrinkBasedCharacterization: Wine, his favorite being ''Romane Conti''. Shows his status of having an upper-class background.
* EntitledToHaveYou: Thinks that he and Sato should be together because she apparently is his "girl of destiny". [[spoiler:He drops this attitude after finding his ''true'' "girl of destiny", Kobayashi.]]
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: If one pays attention to his looks in the flashbacks to [[spoiler: Jinpei Matsuda's death]], they'll notice that his bangs look softer and wavier.
* FairCop: Is a Police Inspector and is '''very''' good looking.
* GentlemanDetective: More like "Gentleman Inspector", but he has a gentleman personality that matches his WineIsClassy background.
* HopelessSuitor: Was this to Sato when he was pursuing her. His efforts towards romancing her barely got her notice and would at most cause her to snark to herself about his actions.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: This guy spent a better part of the series [[ShippingTorpedo interfering with Sato and Takagi's developing relationship]] when he (and the others) should have respectfully left them alone. However, he never went as far as to ''actually'' [[MurderTheHypotenuse try to harm Takagi to get him outta the way]] (the idea never seems to cross his mind), is quite able to team work with him when needed, and he's always thought of him as a good cop and a decent guy otherwise. [[spoiler:He eventually does stop after discovering Sato wasn't "his girl of destiny", he met as a child.]] And since childhood, Shiratori has been a honest and hardworking individual, and [[LawfulGood has a love for the law in general]]; his jerk tendencies come much more from his huge {{pride}} rather than actual cruelty. [[spoiler:And after he and Kobayashi-sensei become a couple, Shiratori proves to be a good and genuinely dedicated boyfriend to her.]]
* KarmaHoudini: In real life, Shiratori may have gotten fired due to his constant harassment of Sato and Takagi, especially the latter.
* LaserGuidedKarma: He was ''far'' more prone to having misfortune befall him when he went a little too far in the LoveTriangle with Sato and Takagi.
* LoveAtFirstSight: He pretty much fell in love with [[spoiler:Kobayashi]] when they met ''once'' [[ChildhoodFriendRomance as children.]] [[spoiler:He fell for Satou because he ''thought'' [[LovingAShadow she was the grown-up Kobayashi]], and once he realises Kobayashi ''was'' [[FirstGirlAfterAll the "girl of destiny"]] they started a proper relationship.]]
* LoveConfession: Makes a poignant and rather heartfelt one to [[spoiler:his "girl of destiny", Kobayashi-sensei.]]
-->"Since long before [[spoiler: these children were born]]... I have been... In love with you."
* LoveTriangle: Has feelings for Sato. So does Takagi. [[spoiler:She chooses Takagi, but Shiratori ends up finding his true love in Kobayashi-sensei.]]
* MultipleChoicePast: {{Justified|Trope}}. Given Shiratori is a CanonImmigrant, there is some discrepancies in his backstory -- In the non-canon movie, he is new to the force. After Shiratori was incorporated into the manga, it was later said he had been on the force longer than Takagi.
* NonIdleRich: While he comes from a very rich family, he is certainly one of the more competent and hardworking police officers there and there's no evidence about him using his family influence to climb the bureaucratic ladder.
* OfficialCouple: With [[spoiler:Kobayashi-sensei]].
* {{Pride}}: Shiratori, like Sato and Takagi, believes that Conan has a lot of intelligence for a boy his age. ''Unlike'' Takagi and Sato, he usually tends to care not much for Conan's opinion. He often feels that Conan gets in the way, and that he himself could have figured out the case without Conan's help, though Conan always proves otherwise. Though he started easing up when Conan helped him out in the "Sakura"-related cases.
* PrincelyYoungMan: Has traits of both the IceKing and the Gentleman types. While '''not''' a bad person, he can be kind of an UpperClassTwit when at his very worse [[spoiler: though he softens up with time, and ''especially'' once [[ChildhoodFriendRomance he finds his childhood love]].]]
* RealMenCook: One of his favorite hobbies include cooking.
* RedHerring: In the first movie, his rather sharp knowledge about architecture leads Conan and Kogoro to think he's the MadBomber that's blowing shit up. Naturally, he's ''not''.
* RescueRomance: [[spoiler:With Kobayashi. As children, he supported her when she stood up to shoplifters. As adults, he is one of the persons who protects her when she's targeted by a murderer because s{{he knows too much}} (complete with a DeclarationOfProtection), and him giving a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to the culprit that sounded almost ''exactly'' like the one he gave to the shoplifters is what [[FirstGirlAfterAll makes her remember that he was the boy from their past]].]]
* RomanticFalseLead: [[spoiler:For Satou, in the end.]]
* SacrificialLion:
** He was the first officer to be seriously injured that kicked off the Serial Bomber case.
** [[spoiler:He took a blow to the head by the third criminal in the Teitan Elementary Warehouse case.]]
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: {{Subverted|Trope}} [[spoiler:with [[CoolTeacher Kobayashi.]] They ''used'' to fit in the trope [[spoiler: during [[ForgottenFirstMeeting their first and almost last encounter]] when [[ChildhoodFriendRomance they were children]] ]], but [[spoiler: when they found each other again 20 years later, Sumiko had grown into a much gentler ShrinkingViolet and Shiratori was more [[{{Pride}} arrogant]] than savvy. [[OfficialCouple They still got together]].]]
* ShipperOnDeck: After [[spoiler:realizing that Kobayashi-sensei was his "girl of destiny", he began to fully support Takagi and Sato's relationship.]]
* SingleTargetSexuality: For [[spoiler:the girl he once saved. Who turned out be Sumiko Kobayashi]].
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Tall, black haired, and noted to very good looking.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Flashbacks of him as a child show him being very polite, if a little cold. As an adult, he became more arrogant.
* TookALevelInKindness:
** After [[spoiler:finding out his true love was Kobayashi-sensei, Shiratori dropped all animosity towards Takagi and advised the other men to do so as well.]]
** In the "Sakura"-themed cases he also showed a kinder attitude towards the Detective Kids; he got stuck with them by mistake in the theater, but ultimately didn't mind [[spoiler: and even explained to them why he believes Sato to be his "girl of destiny".]]
* UpperClassTwit: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Shiratori is by no means an incompetent detective or man in general; this is just the worse he can be in cases when his arrogance gets the best of him.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: The flashback to Shiratori's childhood shows him as a well-mannered, cool-headed boy who liked to do the right thing no matter what and valued people doing likewise. His adult self, however, [[TookALevelinJerkass is quite more arrogant]] and even kinda forceful in regards to Satou. [[spoiler: Though after he finds the ''other'' person in said flashback, Kobayashi-sensei, he starts showing his kinder side again more frequently.]]
* WineIsClassy: Shiratori, coming from a wealthy family background, is a wine enthusiast himself. The second OAV, "Sixteen Suspects?!", is set at his villa, which has an extensive wine cellar. A bottle of extremely rare wine is broken by one of the guests, and Conan and Hattori have to figure out who did it. In the second movie, one of the suspects is a professional sommelier, and Shiratori gets to briefly enjoy exploring their wine cellar [[spoiler: before another murder attempt is made.]]
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: A flashback of him as a child when he first met [[spoiler:Child!Kobayashi, who'd later think of as Child!Sato,]] has the two standing up to two grown men who were attempting to steal manga from a store. He manages to keep his cool despite being a tiny little kid and ''scares them into giving the manga back'' by basically reciting laws regarding theft at them as an improvised TheReasonYouSuckSpeech.

* TheBigDamnKiss: She gives one to [[http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/File:ShukichiYumiKiss.jpg her ex-boyfriend]], Shukichi Haneda.
* CoolBigSis: To the Detective Boys and Naeko Miike.
* FairCop: She's a traffic cop and looks very, ''very'' cute.
* GenkiGirl: She's a grown up version, and sometimes is ''very'' [[LargeHam loud and energetic]].
* HiddenDepths:
** She can be incredibly kind, supportive and understanding, if her interaction with Haneda is anything to go by. It's pretty telling that Haneda is [[UptownGirl an incredibly famous shogi player who has horde of female fans and came from a wealthy secret agent family]] is completely loyal to her.
** She is also the one who made sure an small time ex-criminal she arrested had a job when he got out of prison as the manager of her building.
** Even after discovered Haneda's true identity and knowing him as a very wealthy and famous Shogi player, she doesn't act any differently around him and [[spoiler:[[NotWithThemForTheMoney even tore up his signed marriage certificate because she wants him to tell her himself]]]].
* OfficialCouple: Seems to go this way with Shukichi Haneda, her [[NewOldFlame ex boyfriend.]] [[spoiler:More pronounced following Chapter 947.]]
* ThePrankster: Although it's not treated as a defining characteristic for her, the mischievous Yumi has been known to take advantage of Satou's ObliviousToLove nature, doing things that cause Satou to provoke panic in all the single men in their department who are attracted to her while being completely unaware she is doing so.
* RapunzelHair: Which goes down to her hips
* SelectiveObliviousness: She ''does'' have a LoveInterest (hinted as early as episode 427/volume 49) despite her vehement denials. Said love interest happens to be a professional [[TabletopGame/{{Shogi}} shogi]] player who had privately decided himself as unworthy of her until he can win all seven shogi titles. Naturally, Yumi is clueless of his ambitions and the fact that he is a celebrity, though to be fair she doesn't seem to follow the news about shogi and similar sports.
** To put to perspective, it takes ''nearly 100 chapters after said boyfriend's introductory arc'' before Yumi discovers he's a famous shogi player. Even after previously helping escort him back to his title match in time in an earlier arc and being helped by a police officer who happens to be a fan of him and got his autograph.
* ShipperOnDeck: For Satou and Takagi. Amusing she seems to be an anti-shipper for Chiba and Naeko... because then it would make her the sole main character of Tokyo Police that is '''SINGLE'''. Of course, once her ex-boyfriend come back into her life...
* ShoutOut: Her dogs are named [[Series/StarskyAndHutch Starski and Hachi]].
* TheTease: She gets a fair deal of attention from the opposite sex, and enjoys it quite a bit.
* UptownGirl: The extremely wealthy and famous "Taiko Meijin" Haneda is dating her and is completely loyal and openly affectionate to Yumi.

----
* BigEater: Shown a few times to be eating heavily, but being a fat character is self-explanatory.
* BigFun: Gets along well with the Detective Boys; helps that he's a fan of reading manga and watching children's shows.
* ChickMagnet: When he temporarily loss weight, he became popular among the policewomen.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Naeko. Both are actively trying to rekindle the sparks they had when they were younger. It would be successful if Chiba could recognize her....
* ChildhoodFriends: He was childhood friends with both Naeko and Sakurako Yonehara.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifferent: In the earlier chapters/episodes, Chiba had a neater hairstyle and was more muscle than fat. Now, he has messier hair and bigger waist.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: With Naeko. Though it's less about forgetting their ChildhoodFriendRomance, and more about not recognizing her as an adult.
* HairstyleInertia: Chiba kept the same MessyHair he had as a child.
* NiceGuy: Gets along with everyone he interacts with.
* ObliviousToLove: His romance with Naeko (see below) would have been perfect if not for one problem: he still cannot seem to recognise her as the girl from his ChildhoodFriendRomance!
%%* OfficialCouple: With Yumi's friend and co-worker Naeko Miike. Doubles as ChildhoodFriendRomance.
* {{Otaku}}: Chiba reads a manga about a pretty girl detective and it's strongly suggested by Takagi that his room is FULL of character figurines and models... to the point that it's a little creepy.
** There is a case at Chiba's house in File 450. Almost every exposed surface in the living room has figurines or other merchandise, but Conan finds it excessive rather than creepy. Chiba collection seems to be mostly superhero and kaiju related. Naturally, the detective boys love it.
* RescueRomance: [[spoiler:He ''finally'' recognizes Miike after he saved her from the culprit in the Policewoman Murder Case.]]
* ShipperOnDeck:
** Sato/Takagi fanboy.
** He seems to be a [[spoiler:Shiratori/Kobayashi fanboy as well when he teases Shiratori over his ''real'' reason for stopping by Kobayashi's school...to see her face.]]
* WeightWoe: {{Zigzagged|Trope}}. He starts to diet in chapter 942 - 944 on Naeko's insistence (though he doesn't realize it was by her manipulation), and the results are ''gorgeous''. However, Naeko started to realize their department's [[ChickMagnet policewomen started to find him attractive]], and resolved to feed Chiba box full of chocolates [[StatusQuoIsGod to get him chubby again]].

[[ThemeNaming Mandatory Naming Note]]: The given name is a AlternateCharacterReading for [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seicho_Matsumoto Seichou Matsumoto]], Japanese mystery writer.

DubNameChange: Superintendent Kristopher [=McLaughlin=].
----
* CoolOldGuy: He's in his 50's already, and apparently is the oldest man in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police.
* DaChief: Is the highest-ranking among the members of the TMP that we see,[[note]]Not counting Hakuba's father, who is in charge of the ''entire'' force but has never appeared outside a few scattered chapters of ''Manga/MagicKaito''.[[/note]] and is very much a ReasonableAuthorityFigure.
* FaceOfAThug: So much that, in his debut appearance, Ran almost attacked him to protect Sayuri, mistakenly thinking he wanted to hurt her!
* AFatherToHisMen: To the point that his subordinates respect him so much that they also attend his daughter's wedding.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has a HUGE one on [[EyeScream his left eye.]] [[spoiler: He got it while confronting a SerialKiller... who was armed with a katana.]]
* LargeAndInCharge: Easily the largest of all the Tokyo policemen we've seen in the series.
* MyGreatestFailure: He has two of these:
** During a case, several years ago, his police car accidentally hit a young mother. Matsumoto was in such a rush that he didn't stop to help her[[note]]he couldn't see her and ignored her son's cries while in pursuit of a criminal[[/note]] and she died few minutes later, so when he found out about the woman's death, he never forgave himself. ** Later, the reader finds out that [[spoiler: he still feels guilty over the death of his best friend and partner, Morimura, who [[DiedInYourArmsTonight bled to death in his arms]] after being hit by the car of the SerialKiller who, later, would give him his scar.]]
* OverprotectiveDad: Of his only daughter, [[DaddysGirl Sayuri.]] On her wedding day, he asked if she was sure if wanted to marry Toshihiko, saying that he can set up one of his officers with her.
* PapaWolf: [[spoiler:Was about to rough up Toshihiko when the latter admits to poisoning his daughter's lemon tea.]]
* PutOnABus: In chapter 920, it is mentioned that Matsumoto was promoted to Senior Superintendent and that someone else is transferred to the Metropolitan Police Department to fill his old Superintendent position. This "someone else" is Hyoue Kuroda from Nagano Police, ''one of the biggest suspects of being Rum from the Black Organization.[[note]]No reasons have been given in-story until now, but [[Creator/SeizoKato his seiyuu]] passed away in 2014 so that might have been a technical factor...[[/note]]

Originally the First Division Chief from the Nagano Police, as well as Yamato and Yui's direct superior. By his second appearance, he has been reassigned to Tokyo to replace Superintendent Matsumoto as Tokyo's First Division chief.
----
* BigOlEyebrows: Has spiky, big, and grey eyebrows.
* TheConfidant: [[ImpliedTrope Implied]]. Chapter 1017 has Kuroda refer to Amuro by his codename Bourbon, hinting that he is Rum. [[spoiler:Later revealed to be a RedHerring (since Wakita is Rum), and Kuroda is instead hinted to be Amuro's PSB superior, part of a small group of officers who know the latter's NOC status]].
* DaChief: One of the highest-ranking police officers in Nagano, and as said above he's the boss of both Yui and Yamato. Chapter 920 reveals that Kuroda has been reassigned to Tokyo as the replacement for the other DaChief of the series, [[PutOnABus Superintendent Matsumoto]], further fueling the speculations about him being Rum.
* EyeScream: He lost his right eye, but it's not been explained ''how''. Certain media play it differently; the manga shows that Kuroda has a prosthetic eye (when [[EyesAlwaysShut its open]]), the anime shows us a mutilated set of eyelids instead.
* FaceOfAThug: He's a rather levelheaded fellow, but his heavily scarred face scares the crap out of people. [[spoiler:Ai and Conan talk about this and she claims to not have recognized Kuroda as a B.O. member, and when Conan asks her why she was so scared of him anyway, she tells him she was terrified of his scars instead.]]
* LargeAndInCharge: A tall and solidly-built man, with a rather high rank within the Nagano prefectural police and later, within Tokyo MPD.
* TwoFaced: The right side of his face is covered in scars, almost surely coming from whatever incident robbed him of his eye.

An MPD Public Security Bureau agent who serves as Furuya's right-hand man. [[spoiler:Was also comrades with the late Hiromitsu Morofushi, a.k.a. Scotch]].
----
* BumblingSidekick: Sometimes becomes one to Zero, especially in ''Zero's Tea Time''.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Technically on the same team as Megure, Sato and Takagi but is greatly disliked by them. While it's Kazami's job to investigate the BO and national security cases, in-story that means seizing cases once under regular police authority (including First Division). His unfriendly behaviour towards them doesn't help the situation.
** In Movie 20 he forces Megure to hand over the amnesiac Curaçao and all related case files on suspicions of her being a BO member (which she is), and has his team playing support role for the rest of the movie. The fact that he was going to torture her on the Ferris wheel if her memories returned would likely have been more reason for them to hate him.
** In Movie 22 he immediately assumes a guilty-until-proven-innocent stance after arresting Kogoro for allegedly bombing the Edge of Ocean convention centre and is fully prepared to prosecute him without a confirmed motive. He continues to be a hardass towards Megure as he vouches for Kogoro. Granted, Kazami argues that [[JerkassHasAPoint the evidence obtained is enough to bring Kogoro to trial]], yet the behaviour is still uncalled for.
* NoBadassToHisValet: Downplayed as Kazami still highly respects his superior, but Zero does show him his softer side, such as his online gaming habit and pet dog.

* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler: With Sato.]]

* BettyAndVeronica:
* DudeMagnet:
* {{Fangirl}}: Of Franchise/LupinIII.
* MasterOfDisguise: She disguises herself several times, mostly to act as a decoy for other women who are in danger or to lure out prospect killers.
* MeaningfulName:
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:With Takagi.]]
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan:

* BettyAndVeronica:
** The jerk-ish, arrogant, rich "Veronica" to Takagi's friendly, insecure, poor "Betty" for Sato's "Archie". [[spoiler:Sato chooses Takagi.]]
** [[spoiler:The "Archie" for Sato's aggressive, ActionGirl cop "Veronica" to Kobayashi's gentle, ShrinkingViolet teacher "Betty".
* BigOlEyebrows: Shiratori has pretty big ones.
* CanonImmigrant: He first appeared in the {{Non Serial Movie}}s, then became a regular in the manga.
* CharacterDevelopment:
* CrazyJealousGuy:
* OfficialCouple: With [[spoiler:Kobayashi-sensei]].
* SacrificialLion:
* TookALevelInKindness:

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yumi_miyamoto_profile.png]]

A traffic cop who is on good terms with Takagi and especially Satou.
----
* TheBigDamnKiss: She gives one to [[http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/File:ShukichiYumiKiss.jpg her ex-boyfriend]], Shukichi Haneda.
* CoolBigSis: To the Detective Boys and Naeko Miike.
* FairCop: She's a traffic cop and looks very, ''very'' cute.
* GenkiGirl: She's a grown up version, and sometimes is ''very'' [[LargeHam loud and energetic]].
* HiddenDepths:

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/infobox___kazunobu_chiba.jpg]]

A plump police sergeant who shows up often with Takagi and Megure.

[[ThemeNaming Mandatory Naming Note]]: Named after [[Creator/IsshinChiba his voice actor.]] The kanji for Isshin (一伸) [[AlternateCharacterReading can also be pronounced as "Kazunobu"]], so Aoyama gave the character a given name with different kanji that are still pronounced as "Kazunobu" (和伸).
----
* BigEater: Shown a few times to be eating heavily, but being a fat character is self-explanatory.
* ShipperOnDeck:
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Strongly believes that one should always do the right thing, regardless of whether anyone watches or there will be any consequences. Otherwise, doing the wrong thing will become a habit that's hard to get rid of.

!!Sergeant Naeko Miike

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naeko_miike.jpg]]

A cute rookie traffic cop who gets paired up with Yumi later in the series, and is Chiba's childhood love.
----
* BookDumb: Kind of inversion. She knows a lot about her job as a traffic cop, but she's often nervous in the field job.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Officer Chiba. Both are actively trying to rekindle the sparks they had when they were younger. It would be successful if Chiba could recognize her....
* ChildhoodFriends: She was childhood friends with both Officer Chiba and Sakurako Yonehara.
* CrushBlush: Manifests whenever she catches sight of Chiba.
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:She's kidnapped by the culprit in the Policewoman Murder Case. Chiba and Conan manage to find and save her later thanks to the clue she gave to them with her second phone.]]
* FairCop: Notice a pattern here?
* GenkiGirl: Shown at times to be ''very'' energetic.
* GirlishPigtails: Her current hairstyle.
%%* OfficialCouple: With Officer Chiba.
* RescueRomance: [[spoiler:Chiba ''finally'' recognizes her after he saved her from the culprit in the Policewoman Murder Case.]]
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: The main reason Naeko is in love with [[BigFun Chiba]] is because of his strong sense of justice and [[WhatYouAreInTheDark doing the right thing even when no one's looking]].

!!Senior Superintendent Kiyonaga Matsumoto
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SeizoKato (JP)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiyonaga_matsumoto_profile.jpg]]

A superintendent of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department who is Inspector Megure's direct superior.

[[spoiler: Little did he know that the dead woman's son would plan revenge as an adult...]]
* RankUp: Matsumoto is promoted from Superintendent to Senior Superintendent in chapter 920, with his replacement Kuroda now referring to him as ''keishi-sei'' rather than ''keishi''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hyoue Kuroda]]
!!Superintendent Hyoue Kuroda

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/78b0ec53d62bf70a4cb3c3eefc9ccb44.png]]

** '''Every other single man in her department''' (save for Chiba, [[ChildhoodFriendRomance but that's something else]]) are fighting to be her boyfriend.
