He's also often annoyed to Kogoro's presence, contrasting to him being reliant on Kogoro in the series' beginning. Justified from the story's standpoint: They needed to show how awesome Conan truly is compared to the adults and authorities.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His first case was dealing with a SerialKiller who targeted high school girls wearing long skirts. He would meet his future wife who, angry by the police and their inaction, would make herself a decoy to draw out the killer; as such, a young Megure was assigned as her bodyguard. Midori's plan worked, and while the killer was caught, it left both her and Megure (especially the former) with severe wounds and a lot of trauma for Megure.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Technically on the same team as Megure, Sato and Takagi but is greatly disliked by them. While it's Kazami's job to investigate the BO and national security cases, in-story that means seizing cases once under regular police authority (including First Division). His unfriendly behaviour towards them doesn't help the situation.
** In Movie 20 he forces Megure to hand over the amnesiac Curaçao and all related case files on suspicions of her being a BO member (which she is), and has his team playing support role for the rest of the movie. The fact that he was going to torture her on the Ferris wheel if her memories returned would likely have been more reason for them to hate him.
** In Movie 22 he immediately assumes a guilty-until-proven-innocent stance after arresting Kogoro for allegedly bombing the Edge of Ocean convention centre and is fully prepared to prosecute him without a confirmed motive. He continues to be a hardass towards Megure as he vouches for Kogoro. Granted, Kazami argues that [[JerkassHasAPoint the evidence obtained is enough to bring Kogoro to trial]], yet the behaviour is still uncalled for.
