* NominalHero: He only aids the heroes to get revenge on Lavos.

* [[PetTheDog Pet the Cat]]: After he joins your party, Alfador recognizes him, indicating that he hasn't changed so much that he'd seem like a different person to his cat. Even before that, in his prophet guise, Alfador's plaintive meow combined with his past self's protests are enough for him to refrain from executing the party.

Added DiffLines:

* ChronicHeroSyndrome: None of them save Magus and maybe Robo have any personal stake in killing Lavos. They oppose him because it's the right thing to do.

* ActionGirl: She breaks into the castle to rescue Crono completely on her own, knocking out several guards in the process. If Crono starts escaping by himself, the only thing that changes is how many.

* BadassAdorable: She's a young GadgeteerGenius who's far more vulnerable than she lets on. But, she's also an ActionGirl that will wreck your ass if you cross her or her friends.

* BigDamnHeroes: At Crono's scheduled "execution." Of course, you could just escape on your own, but she gets points for trying.

* ActionGirl: It's mentioned by the castle and festival staff that she's quite a {{Tomboy}}.

* BadassPrincess:
** She's the first one to say "ScrewDestiny!" when the heroes discover the BadFuture.
** In her personal sidequest, she [[SuperWindowJump jumps through a stained glass window]] to save her father.

BadFuture.

* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: Marle fits the PrincessClassic, PoliticallyActivePrincess, RebelliousPrincess, BadassPrincess, TomboyPrincess ''and'' RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething tropes and basically acts as the focal point of everything that happens in the plot.

* SuperWindowJump: In her personal sidequest, straight through a stained glass window to save her father.

* ActionGirl: The shining example of the game. Ayla solves problems with her fists, feet, and teeth.

* DumbMuscle: Not exactly "dumb", but less intelligent due to being a cavewoman with no formal education. What she lacks in intelligence in comparison to her friends, she makes up for in raw strength. At any rate, despite her lack of education, she's able to hold up her end on philosophical conversations about death, implying a certain degree of natural intelligence and observation.

* EldritchAbomination: Has all the hallmarks as the tropes here show.

* HumanoidAbomination: Subverted. Its TrueFinalBoss form looks like an alien astronaut with combat pods on either side, but the humanoid part isn't its true core body.

* OutsideContextProblem: A giant world-destroying parasite monster with magical powers falls from the sky in a massive fireball that causes an ice age. Not something that anyone on the planet was expecting.

* FantasticRacism: She really can't stand humans, viewing them as inferior to the Reptites. Considering the primitive nature of the humans, she might be right about their intelligence, but it doesn't justify a mass extinction.
* LizardFolk: Which she believes are superior to humans. She's right, at least in terms of intelligence, but humans are still stronger.

extinction/genocide.

* OrcusOnHisThrone: One might expect her to take over the world with the Black Omen, but she's content sitting inside and admiring Lavos. Justified since she knows Lavos wants to destroy the world anyway.

->An EldritchAbomination that ruined many lives and changed the world forever after its eruption in the Day of Lavos, 1999 A.D. It first arrived from space in 65,000,000 B.C.

* [[PersonOfMassDestruction Alien Of Mass Destruction]]: Not only did its impact on Earth cause the events that killed the dinosaurs, the times it's emerged have had it blow up an entire country, and later devastated the whole planet to the point where even Earth's ecosystem is dying.

* EldritchAbomination: It's immensely powerful and can't be talked to, but is also apparently advanced enough to shape and manipulate humanity. Despite the generally optimistic nature of the game, the scenes that detail the history of Lavos have some surprising cosmically horrific overtones, making Lavos much more of an "eldritch abomination" than just any old "powerful JRPG thing".
** HumanoidAbomination: Its final form appears to be a humanoid {{Ancient Astronaut|s}} capable of warping time and space. Actually, the core seems to be one of the two Lavos Pods, so... averted?

* FlatCharacter[=/=]GenericDoomsdayVillain: There really isn't much to it. Kinda like how there's not much to a slug, only slugs probably have a fear response. Lavos is generally treated more as a thematic force of nature than it is an actual character.

* MorphicResonance: The proper definition wherein "organisms share genes telepathically"-not the "ShapeShifterDefaultForm influences its shifted shape's appearance"-since it's TheAssimilator without actually going out and assimilating people.
