* AdaptationalJerkass: She's definitely much more abrasive and catty in ''Girl Meets World'' although this justified by having both a demanding and stessful job as a lawyer as well as raising a family, and having to put up with Auggie's bratty friend Ava. However, as Riley matures, she gradually slides back to her original demure self.

* TheBGrade: Straight As in high school. When Feeny gave her a B on a mid-term in college, [[SeriousBusiness she proceeded to chase him around campus, demanding he change it from the same grade he'd given Cory and Shawn]].
** Almost 20 years after graduating high school, she complains to Mr. Turner that he gave her an A- in one of his classes, and implores him to change it.

* RealLifeWritesThePlot: As part of a RealitySubtext, Danielle Fishel's very slight weight gain was subject to excessive criticism in the press. The show's producers mocked this response with an episode titled "She's Having My Baby Back Ribs!" where Topanga decides to go on a diet and doesn't tell Cory, accidentally leading him to think that she's pregnant.

** Threaten to take advantage of Topanga and you'll go sailing through a door.

* BerserkButton: Mocking his upbringing in the trailer park.
** As revealed on Girl Meets World, ParentalAbandonment is another one. When he finds out about Maya's home situation in "Girl Meets Home for the Holidays", his response is a simple "I'd never let a kid grow up like that" tinged with both disgust & TranquilFury.

One of two series regulars (the other being the short-lived and long-forgotten Mr. Williams) to never make a reappearance in ''Girl Meets World'' (due to Maitland Ward retiring from acting), although Eric mentions that he still keeps in touch with her and considers her one of his best friends.

* MsFanservice: In her early appearances (where it was her entire character) where she would often wander around in a tiny bathrobe, and her spaghetti footsie and other teasing antics in "Hogs and Kisses."

* TheirFirstFight: One of the saddest examples you could ask for. Corey and Topanga get in a ''VERY'' petty argument that leads to Corey blowing up and saying he shouldn't have married Topanga and that he won. Eventually, the two reconcile, but poor Topanga is crying her eyes out and pitifully telling Corey "I... would ''never'' hurt you...!" Corey is practically tearing up by the end of it all and the two realize they are better than this and come to adore each others' flaws and cement themselves as a married couple.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: In a wonky ImagineSpot during the original series after a PrankWar hit the skids, Eric goes by the crazy Indian-ish name "Dances With Squirrels" in a BadFuture. In the real future in the sequel series, Eric actually ''has'' adopted this moniker.

* PutOnABus: In the finale of the original series, Jack and Rachel move away to lead a happy life together.

* StatuesqueStunner: The tallest of her peers and a DudeMagnet.

* StatuesqueStunner: The tallest of her peers and a DudeMagnet. She also uses this surprising height to immediately discourage a snooty girl from picking a fight with her.
* YourCheatingHeart: When Jack broke down crying [[spoiler:after Chet died]], Rachel was so moved to comfort him that she shared a hesitant, then full kiss with him. Eric, who had been slowly romancing Rachel, saw this, and was horrified. After setting things straight, Rachel realized that her feelings laid more towards Jack that with Eric because he needed somebody there to give him a reason to keep going, and her feelings toward Eric gravitated more on a friendly level.

* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:The death of his father, coupled by his so-called "mom" denying Shawn, ''devastated'' him. It was enough to make Shawn oppose an Aesop he and Corey had learned about not drinking and relapse just because he ''couldn't'' stand the pain he was being put through.]]

Both his parents return and stay together as a family for a while but then his mother takes off, again and his father follows after her, again.
