Moved an Only Sane Woman example that had been added to the wrong page.

Added DiffLines:

** Played with: Alexis is a lot more grounded and mature than her father is, but compared to his ex-wives, and to a (slightly) lesser extent his mother, Castle himself is a bedrock of maturity, common sense and selflessness.

* PullingTheThread: In the fifth season, "The Squab and the Quail", Castle's jealous of a multi-billionaire inventor/venture capitalist's infatuation with Beckett, who is being targeted by an assassin. Pulling the thread lets Castle realize that said billionaire was trying to kiss Beckett, but it ''also'' makes him realize that she pushed him away (coincidentally saving his life ''and'' [[spoiler:her relationship with Castle]]).

* PullingTheThread: PullingTheThread:
** This is half of what Castle brings to the team (the other half being his tendency toward epileptic trees trying to invent possible stories). He ''needs'' to know the full story and won't stop until every stone has been turned over. Sometimes this means the team finds the ''real'' killer, sometimes it means they fined ''another'' killer, sometimes it means they bring someone closure.

* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: In "Hedge Fund Homeboys", Brandon wants his former friend Donnie dead. [[TooDumbToLive He and his friends had a gun that they would pretend to shoot each other with]], always without bullets. He arranged to put bullets in the gun so that when his friend Max believed he was pulling the trigger on an empty gun, he fired a fatal shot, killing Donnie. Unfortunately for Max, he figured out that he was set up, and Brandon resorted to more traditional methods of murder for him, setting it up to make it look like a suicide, except for the fact that Max had a 0.28 blood alcohol level and couldn't have shot himself.

* MurderByProxy:
** Senator Bracken never killed anyone directly, but boy oh boy did he pay for lots of people to be killed. Starting with Beckett's mother.

* ObfuscatingPostmortemWounds: Rathbone kills with a single, precise strike, then stabs the victim multiple times to hide the precision of his kill, making it seem like the work of a random mugger or serial killer, not a pro for hire. Just like he did with Beckett's mother.

* MouthTapedShut: In a season 1 episode, Castle has himself bound, and then gagged in duct tape by his daughter, Alexis, so he can work out how a character in his story would realistically escape such a scenario. Alexis also takes money from his wallet, reasoning that he wouldn't respect her if she didn't rip him off, to which he can only nod. He does get out of it, resulting in triumphant, but PainfulAdhesiveRemoval.

* PungeonMaster: The show elevates this to an art form. Castle himself seems to love these and tends to encourage the others to do so as well.
** When Ryan mentions a previous relationship with a member of a vampire coven:
--->'''Esposito:''' What happened, did the relationship suck?
** In the premiere of Season Two, after seeing a victim who's organs had been tampered with and removed.
--->'''Castle:''' Somebody hated his guts.
** From "When the Bough Breaks":
--->'''Castle:''' I almost bought a Russian bride once. You know, a [[TabletopGame/{{Chess}} Czech-mate]]?
** In "Vampire Weekend", Castle is dressed up like Creator/EdgarAllanPoe carrying a raven. Beckett manages to successfully scare Castle.
--->'''Castle:''' I'm giving you the bird.
** Oh, hell, it's quicker just to say that Castle loves the ''hell'' out of these: another one from "Hell Hath No Fury", after a councilman has been found wrapped up in a piece of carpet (''and'' wearing a toupee):
--->'''Castle:''' What turned you off; the fact that he was wearing a rug? ''[Beckett gives him a look]'' Too soon?
** One memorable lame pun in "Food to Die For" includes Castle (after [[EvilLaugh laughing like a maniac]]) realizes that he's late for his date with [[GirlOfTheWeek Madison]] and accidentally drops his watch into a bowl of liquid nitrogen.
--->'''Castle:''' Hey look. [[WebVideo/DrHorriblesSingAlongBlog I froze time.]]
** In "Slice of Death," after finding a body in a pizza oven.
--->'''Capt. Montgomery:''' Authentic Nicks's. Oh, thank God. My wife loves Terrific Nick's. I didn't have the heart to tell her now it came in full-bodied flavor.
** A funny exchange occurs between Ryan and Esposito in "Death Gone Crazy", where the murder weapon is a bra:
--->'''Esposito:''' So how goes the im-''breast''-igation?\\
'''Ryan:''' [[LamePunReaction ...And that's why you're still single.]]

* MeddlingParents:
** Castle's mother is constantly telling people things he wishes she wouldn't. Castle has his moments of over-protectiveness with Alexis, too, but after the chewing-out mentioned above, he's gotten a lot better. From "Vampire Weekend," when Alexis asks to go to a party thrown by high school seniors:
--->'''Castle''': This is one of those crossroads moments, isn't it?\\
'''Martha''': Oh, let her go. She's far more responsible than you ever were.
** ''Inverted'' in "Food to Die For", when Alexis is ''hoping'' her dad will intervene on her decision of whether or not to go camping with her friends when she should probably spend the weekend studying. He finally does at the very end. And only because she has to tell him to do so, so that she can tell her friends she really wants to go with them but her father won't let her.
** Inverted again by Alexis in "Significant Others" when Castle can't stop his ex-wife and Alexis's mother Meredith from staying at his place while Beckett is there. They were supposed to go to Paris before Alexis got sick with mono, and at the end of the episode, Alexis solves Castle's problem by insisting that her mom should go enjoy Paris for her.

* PainfulAdhesiveRemoval: Castle actually goes BoundAndGagged himself, with his daughter Alexis's help, because he's trying to figure out how a character in one of his books would escape. Alexis also rips off her Dad's wallet, justifying it by saying the he wouldn't respect her if she didn't, to which he nods agreement. After his mother and daughter leave, Castle works on getting himself unbound, which he's actually fairly good at, but the removal of the duct tape is clearly painful, though he is still triumphant about it.

The Cheerleader is no longer a trope

* MsFanservice: Done infrequently but at least once a season with Alexis Castle. Somewhat creepy, since she was underage for much of her time on the series. She regularly appeared in early seasons in [[CatholicSchoolGirlsRule abnormally short (secular) school girl skirts]]; her official publicity photo for years featured Grade B ZettaiRyouiki. At one point, a plot contrivance put her in a [[TheCheerleader cheerleader]] uniform despite not being a cheerleader. For season 5, her photo puts her in a tight micro-mini dress, and one episode has her in an "alien assassin" costume that consists of a bikini, body paint, and feathers. While Beckett and Lanie both get their annual fan service moment, Alexis has more such moments than both put together.
