* {{Bowdlerize}}: The anime is rather infamous for toning down some of the violence or nudity. Sometimes, it makes sense, like Harribel's girls and their arms turning into Ayon. At others, it clearly doesn't hold up to par. See [[Bowdlerise/AnimeAndManga trope page]] for full list.

** [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Kurodo, Lirin, and Noba]], three recurring characters exclusive to the anime. They showed up as minor antagonists in a filler story, but since DefeatMeansFriendship, they stick around for much longer, making cameo appearances for comedy purposes in the canon storyline. They also have a tendency to dance around during the end credits.

* BookEnds: The manga's final chapter; [[spoiler:Ichigo's and Orihime's son, Kazui meeting with Ichika, Rukia's and Renji's daughter, mirrors how Ichigo met Rukia: with her coming out of nowhere into Kazui's room, introducing herself as a Soul Reaper before being shocked by Kazui's spiritual power.]]

* BareYourMidriff: Harribel, Nelliel, Mila-Rose, Lilynette, Loly and [[BrainBleach Charlotte Cuulhorne]].

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: The 13 Court Guards.

** Grimmjow and Ulquiorra both tell Ichigo, independently, that rescuing Orihime is meaningless because something unseen -- psychological damage, or [[MoreThanMindControl perhaps something]] [[ManchurianAgent even more sinister]] -- has been done to her during her stay in Hueco Mundo to make her "one of (them)". This is never elaborated upon and Orihime seems just fine.

** Kubo has confirmed that the upcoming anime adaptation of the final arc will expand on certain events, such as who exactly defeated Rukia [[spoiler:when the Sternritter first attacked]].

** This partially happens in the anime's TYBW arc, like with Kon's buffed-up form being left out, and his unwilling role as Urahara's messenger taking place infront of the Zero Bantai instead of inside the junibantai.

** Episode 7 of the "Thousand-Year Blood War" adaptation begins with [[spoiler:the original Thirteen Court Guard Captains thwarting the Vandenreich's original invasion of Soul Society]], an event that was only mentioned and alluded to in a single panel. The scene also depicts the appearances of the captains along with [[spoiler:a younger Yamamoto and Unohana]], something that was only revealed in an artwork by Kubo mere days before the episode's airing.

* AwesomeMcCoolName: Many impressive zanpakuto abilities are heralded by pretty cool-sounding names, and just as many have rather unimpressive ones. A few stick out as being dramatically badass, though.

* ArtsyMoon: For no apparent reason, the moon shows up as a very unlikely crescent— specifically, the horns curl toward each other in a way that could only happen if the moon were full and being partially eclipsed by another object.

* BoyMeetsGirl: Shinigami dwell within the Soul Society, the world of spirits and ghosts. When humans die, Shinigami help their ghosts travel to the Soul Society. Those ghosts with spiritual power can then become Shinigami, although aristocratic Shinigami are born directly into [[SpiritWorld Soul Society]] as spirits. Ichigo and his sisters are the offspring of a Shinigami father who went AWOL from Soul Society to save the life of their human mother. Although their mother has been dead for many years, their Shinigami father remains within the human world, masquerading as a doctor and raising his three children. Ginjou claims that Ichigo is not the first person to have been born from a Shinigami/Human pairing and, as a substitute Shinigami, he might have been talking about himself. However, he leaves the identity of Ichigo's predecessor a mystery.

* AdultFear:
** The way he lost his mother as a child left Ichigo unable to handle being powerless to protect those in danger. Villains often use this against him, culminating in one ArcVillain's mind-bending assault on his family leading Ichigo into HeroicBSOD. [[spoiler:Also, Yhwach's henchman traps him in a gaol of darkness where he's forced to listen to the dying screams of Soul Society, knowing he's unable to save them]].
** Having made two separate vows to always protect his dead wife's sister and always uphold the law, Byakuya's left dumbfounded when Rukia's execution brings the two vows into conflict. Although he's forced to support the execution, his worst fear is eventually confirmed to be Rukia dying. [[spoiler:As Nodt's supernatural EmotionBomb forces Byakuya to hallucinate Rukia's melting corpse, driving him into a frenzy that almost kills him.]]

* ArmyOfThievesAndWhores: The original Gotei 13 consisted of the thirteen most vile and dangerous criminals in Soul Society. While it has gradually become more noble in nature it still recruits people like Kenpachi Zaraki, who in any ordinary society would be executed.

** Inverted in anime episode 14 ''"Back to Back, a Fight to the Death!"'' Ichigo forcibly gets newfound rival Ishida to do this to stave off a legion of Hollows while at the same time trying to convince him that they are NotSoDifferent.
