* When Skinny Norris unties the boat house the boys are investigating, they are in real danger of shooting over a waterfall. When Jupiter has no idea what to do, in a moment of pure awesome, it's ''Pete'' who confidently takes over. He orders Jupe and Bob to push everything to the back of the boat, which stops the boat from going over. He also uses a rope to lasso a tree on the bank, making sure that Bob and Jupe make it across before he makes his own escape (which cinematically coincides with the boathouse falling over the dam).
* Pete gets taken hostage by Roger Callow, who also has the jewels from the riddle, he doesn't just go quietly. While Callow is distracted trying to back away from the police, he hooks his foot around Callow's ankle and shoves backward. this topples both him and Callow off the gangplank, causing the man to drop the gun and the jewels. Pete manages to catch the bag of jewels ''in mid-air'' and manages flip over to safely dive into the water whereas Callow ends up breaking his leg due to the fall. If there is ever a moment to display Pete's athletic prowess, this is it.

** One extremely noble thing about their detective agency is that they ''never'' take payment (they also legally can't because they're too young, but morally they won't either). In fact, it's ''costing'' them to run the agency. Between maintaining phone & internet and the funds they use for their research, Jupe often mentions how low their 'treasury' during cases. All three boys have to [[HeroismWontPayTheBills work part time or do chores to get enough money]] to keep solving mysteries. Sometimes they do complain about the extra work, but in reality, they don't mind. Not taking money means that they can assist clients who may not have the funds to hire a licensed detective, and a lot of them are grateful for the help. They do accept rewards very occasionally (most of them material and not monetary), but don't solve the mystery for the money. All three boys are very big mystery lovers and just solve mysteries because they just enjoy the [[InHarmsWay thrill of solving them]] and [[GoodSamaritan just want to help others]].

* The fact that three kids (teenagers later) are able to solve real world crime. The Investigators' resume incredibly impressive, from stopping smugglers, robbers, and even their own government. It's to a point where the Chief of Police of Rocky Beach, Samuel Reynolds, has given them an Official Badge that acknowledges them as volunteer Junior Detectives, wishing they could hire them into the force. Despite the fact that their cases get harder and more dangerous as the series goes on, the three of them always rise to the challenge.

In addition to all the sports training, he also knows much about wilderness survival (having been a Boy Scout), sailing, scuba diving, and more. !!#190 Verbrechen im Nichts (Crime in Nothing)
* The fact that Brian and Ashlyn were able to make a series of puzzles to challenge the Investigators, ''especially'' Jupiter, this series' own Sherlock Holmes. Not only that, but the puzzle was difficult and clever enough that it engaged their attention for a couple days before Jupiter inevitably figured out that that they had tricked him. They probably shouldn't have tricked the Investigators (they might have still enjoyed the treasure hunt even knowing it was candy at the end), but it was still impressive considering how experienced the Investigators are in the first place (at this point, they likely have over two hundred cases solved).
* Peter's rescue and escape from the Black Smoke Cavern:
** First, realizing that Ashlyn needed help immediately after she gets trapped in the cavern because of a landslide, he risks his own life by using the old walkways of the cavern and crawling through to reach her. Peter succeeds and manages to lead her onto solid ground. Brian, her older brother, had wanted to help her, but Peter confronted him with a surprising amount of realism and explains that he is the only one among them who has the skills to reach her and get out safely.
-->'''Brian:''' I'm going to Ashlyn!
-->'''Peter:''' Have you climbed through caves yet? Do you have mountaineering experience? have you ever looked down a steep wall from above? Do you have a head for heights?
-->'''Brian:''' I, uh...
-->'''Peter:''' (confidently) That's exactly my expertise!
** Then Old Buck accidentally triggers a mudslide. Thankfully Ashlyn manages to avoid it thanks to Peter's help, but he gets caught in it himself and ends up falling down one of the cavern holes, but miraculously survives thanks to falling onto a ledge. Even though he was in what he describes 'unbearable pain' and was on the verge of fainting again, he manages to climb up with only a rope and safety belt dropped by Jonathan, even while his hands were ''bleeding'' because he had sliced his hands on the rocks when he initially fell. That's metal as hell.

* Peter, yet again, jumps into shark-infested waters to save someone. Except this time, Matthew, the surfer in trouble, gets straight chomped on a shark and is bleeding out. Despite the fact that the blood and the frantic paddling could attract more sharks, Peter still risks his life to pull Matt to safety, rationalizing that he'd just kick the shark in the gills if it attacked again. He then successfully pulls Matt to shore and keeps pressure on the wound until the ambulance arrive.
* As Finnley is too injured from a fall to surf, Peter surfs on his behalf, but during a ''storm''. Peter manages to survive being on the torrential waves and manages to make it back to shore in one piece.
* At the end of the story, Finnley has nicknamed Peter, 'Superboy', for being so his reckless heroism. The chapter itself dubs Peter as the Hero of Rocky Beach.

* Peter managing to escape from the ''secret services' government building''. Using a newspaper to slide under the door and jiggling the lock so it falls onto it, he manages to lift the doorframe just enough to get the key. Then after determining that there really was no other way to escape, be builds a makeshift skateboard out of parts he manages to find around the government office and essentially skateboards off the roof to his escape. He was even being shot at and manages to make it far enough before he was able to be hide with Sunny.
** Earlier in the story, Peter manages to survive being shot at by the mysterious gunmen.
* Pretty epic of Sunny to just help Pete out even though it was pretty clear that he was wearing prisoner garb. The moment he sees how great Peter is at skateboarding, he's essentially decided that he was cool and even giving him a skateboard to boot.
** And Sunny's quick thinking to hide Peter from the policemen looking for him. He seems to be a MasterActor to rival Jupe and manages to completely convince the officer that he had nothing to hide, even after the policeman finds Peter's salvaged skateboard.
* Towards the end of the story, Cotta standing up to a secret service agent to protect Peter from falling into government custody again. Technically, the agent outranks Cotta in every way, but Cotta manages uses the law by taking Peter into ''his'' custody so he wouldn't immediately get arrested by the government.

* In a pretty good display of his wilderness survival skills, Peter is able to deduce where North was just by looking at a mossy stone:
-->'''Bob:''' The sun ahs completely disappeared behind the clouds. How do you know that's North? Do you have a compass in your head or something?
-->'''Peter:''' I may not be as smart as Jupiter or as well read as you, Bob, but you'll have to admit my sense of direction has always been pretty brilliant. There are also a few simple tips. The rocks here for example: they are overgrown with moss, especially on the side, logically, on the one that gets the most water. And since most of the mountain winds are north here, the side of the rock where the most moss grows because the wind slaps the rain on it must be North.

* The Three Investigators have figured out the identity of the culprit and confront him, but are unable to back up their accusations with concrete evidence. However, when Peter was attacked and locked up by the disguised culprit some time earlier, he managed to slip a cell phone into his attacker's pocket without being noticed. When the man boasts that they have nothing on him, Peter dials the number of the cell phone, which starts ringing in the culprit's pocket, proving his guilt. This is all the more impressive because Peter was genuinely afraid for his life while being attacked, yet he still had the presence of mind to pull off this trick.
