** Even better is the fact that he doesn't come up with it right away. He looks at the shotgun shell and puts it on the desk. Then he moves the hammer next to it, and then takes a thumbtack off the billboard in front of him, looks at them a few seconds and then assembles it. In most horror movies, you see the character come up with the idea and then quickly execute it. The awesomeness is that here, you can see the gears turn in Mike's head as he slowly puts things together to solve the problem he's in.
