* LighterAndSofter: Whereas most ''Touken Ranbu'' adaptations emphasize the tragic pasts of the Touken Danshi and the price of preserving history while occasionally sprinkling humor and lighthearted moments throughout, ''Hanamaru'' instead focuses mainly on the comedic day-to-day lives of the Touken Danshi and ignores the majority of their emotional baggage, making it one of the softer major adaptations of ''Touken Ranbu'' along with Sanrio’s Wanpaku! ** Come ''Zoku'', Kashuu, Yamanbagiri, and Hasebe take up roughly half of the screentime of a given episode, while other swords have to either get an episode devoted to their group or get a few lines/shots here and there, even for newly introduced swords. It's not rare for newly introduced Touken Danshi to have their introduction take place in the final few minutes of the episode, with it rushing to establish their characterization.
** The show makes it pretty obvious who the writers' preferred swords are, with this becoming more apparent in ''Zoku'' with the amount of screen time the Awataguchi school Touken Danshi, Shishiou, Tsurumaru Kuninaga, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada, Akashi Kuniyuki, Kasen Kanesada, and the Samonji brothers get compared to most other swords other than the above three.
