** Subverted in the episode to "fix" Omoikane. It's suggested that they just whack it, and Inez points out that the ship's AI is not a 20th century television (since at the time this aired, all tv's still functioned that way)

Added DiffLines:

* AmbiguousSituation: Whether Yurika [[spoiler:always had her IFS implant, revealed in the final episode, or just received it right then as part of her plan to try and sacrifice herself. She was affected by the memory-sharing in episode 21, which is pointed out as weird because she shouldn't have an IFS implant, but didn't have her personality switched, unless you believe she did and just looked the same because of her HiddenDepths. It doesn't help that she always wears gloves and that most pilots' implants don't ''always'' show on their hands.]]

Added DiffLines:

* {{Chuunibyou}}: Jiro Yamada (or as he calls himself, "Gai Daigoji")[[note]]"Jiro Yamada" is about as unremarkable a name as "John Smith".[[/note]] is a HotBlooded RealRobot pilot who thinks he's in a SuperRobot series, [[CallingYourAttacks shouting out the names of attacks]] from his favorite anime while in combat. He also serves as something of an inspiration to the rest of the cast [[spoiler:especially when he dies during battle]], even those who claim to find his behaviour annoying.

* TechnologyMarchesOn: While the series did accurately predict that VHS tapes would be obsolete in the future, it does not do the same with floppy disks.

* TheGlassesGottaGo: Uribatake tries to comment that Hikaru looks much cuter without her glasses. Hikaru says that's been cliche for hundreds of years and not even doujinshi would use that line nowadays.

* LethalChef: Yurika and Megumi (and probably Ryoko) nearly kill Akito trying to impress him with their cooking, the real [[strike:tragedy]] joke being that Akito himself is a restaurant-quality chef.
** How bad are they? Akito needs medical attention after trying Megumi's "energy drink," and the frying pan that Yurika used to cook the meal is declared a biological hazard and is sent off to be incinerated!

* MsExposition: Inez Fressange. Lampshaded, of course.course; as the series goes on, she mentions that she seems to exist to provide exposition and will even sense when someone else is doing it and show up to assist.
* MyGirlIsNotASlut: When Hikaru is turning down Uribatake, she mentions that she used to have a live-in boyfriend. This shocks him, though he tries to play it off by saying she's a modern girl.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: In episode 9, while on a stealth rescue mission, the Nadesico is flying low through some bad weather to avoid detection by the Jovians. All is going well until Yurika overhears that Megumi is with Akito. She [[ClingyJealousGirl begins to over think it]], and then inadvertently presses a button which fires off their gravity blast cannon, which gives away their position.

* RealityEnsues: Happens a lot with the DeconstructorFleet this show is flying. The most famous example is the episode three twist: [[spoiler:anime characters might go out heroically on the battlefield like Gai wanted, but in real life, people can die pointlessly with little warning.]]

* TheReveal: Episode 22 has one, [[spoiler: where Nagare Akatsuki reveals himself to be the chairman of Nergal, after pulling out the Nadesico's master key to prevent Yurika from firing a warning shot at the Earth fleet. Up until that point he seemed to be just another pilot.]]

** There's also a chibi Gekiganger doll in episode 6.

to:

** There's also a chibi Gekiganger doll that first appears in episode 6.6 and will occasionally pop up again after that.
* SuperPrototype: The ''Nadesico'' is sometimes treated like this, but the reasons are a lot more realistic: the later ships built to match it befall accidents or are otherwise felled for understandable reasons and would otherwise be just as good. One late-series example has a new ship targeted and sunk specifically because the Jovians already know what the ''Nadesico'' can do, but don't want to risk this new one pulling any improvements out (or splitting their focus between the two ships and being double-teamed).
