** In most {{Mons}} works, no one considers sanctioning the possession, let alone the ''use'' of monsters to fight proxy battles, especially ''[[ImprobableAge by children]]''. It's... different in ''Digimon Tamers'', being more in line to the early {{Kaiju}} films.

The third anime series of the ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'' franchise, ''Anime/DigimonTamers'' was the first installment to set itself in a different canon entirely. It tends to be described as "''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' with {{mons}}," or "''Anime/SerialExperimentsLain'' [[WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids for kids]]", and for good reason--series head writer Creator/ChiakiKonaka was also the man behind ''Lain'' and is reportedly a big fan of ''Evangelion''. Distinguished for {{deconstruct|edTrope}}ing the {{Mons}} genre and being DarkerAndEdgier than every other ''Digimon'' canon since [[Anime/DigimonXEvolution (with one possible exception)]], it is significantly more cerebral, psychological, technologically minded, and becomes one hell of a CosmicHorrorStory by the end. And as a result of all this, it's rather debatable just how appropriate the show is for its "target" demographic, particularly in its last acts.

** Another shot features police officers with realistic looking guns, but dialogue was added stating that they were not loaded. [[KaijuDefenseForce Japanese Self-Defense Force]] soldiers can be seen later on armed with assault rifles (specifically the Howa Type 89 used by the real-life JSDF), but are never shown firing them on-screen.

* DarkerAndEdgier. You've got to wonder who thought it was a good idea to give a children's show to the scriptwriter of ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'', no matter how enthusiastic he was about the project.
