* ArtEvolution: This show ''clearly'' has a different character designer than its predecessor. Kurahana Chinatsu (Uta Prince, Nitro Nitro+CHiRAL) for the male cast design and Hiro Kanzaki (Ore no Imouto) for the design of the female cast.
* ArtisticAge: To ridiculous levels. Both Amata, Mikono and Kagura are supposedly 16 years old, yet they don't look anything like their age. In some scenes (specially on Cayenne's visions) Kagura looks like he's on his early to mid twenties and the same happens with Amata although on a less exaggerated level.
** Yunoha is 15. She's just one year older than Jin and one year younger than Amata. Let that sink into your head.
* AscendedExtra: Sazanka and Malloy.

* BelligerentSexualTension: Andy and Mix.

* BrokenAesop: Throughout the series you get the message that you should love someone by who they are rather than by things like fate or Big Bangs. Amata tries to illustrate this by fighting the fate of Mikono being with Kagura. [[spoiler:Kagura and Amata are basically the same person, and they were both the split parts of Mikono's past life's lover, Apollo. By the second half of the series no one's entirely sure whether Amata is fighting fate or going along with it, or what is the fate Amata's trying to fight in the first place. In the end, it turns out he was fated to be with the girl he loves anyways.]]

* {{Rewrite}}: Twice. [[spoiler: the entire existence of the shadow angel dog Pollon is this. Originally Kawamori did want to include the plot twist that Apollo was the reincarnation of Pollon rather than Apollonius in the original ''Anime/GenesisofAquarion'', however the staff of Genesis talked him out of it pointing out that the inclusion of the dog would only take away the focus on the love story between Apollo and Silvia. Kawamori reluctantly agreed and Pollon was erased from the story. Apollo was then made the reincarnation of Apollonius despite Apollo's many canine-like behaviors and traits, and how in the finale the Aquarion itself was revealed to hold Apollonius's soul. This is also why there is no mention of the dog in the Aquarion OVAs. When it came time to make up the story for EVOL however, Ohkada found Kawamori's notes and Kawamori was easily convinced into integrating the idea back into the story.]] Essentially, EVOL takes a [[spoiler: scrapped earlier draft of the original anime's story]] and makes it the canon version of the setting.

* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: Once you get past the incredibly distorted font used, most of the text on written materials is in English, and not half bad at that. See [[http://i.imgur.com/3b79A.png here]] for an example.

* BareYourMidriff: Zessica and [[BrownBagMask Paper bag-chan]]

The sequel to Creator/ShojiKawamori's [[DeusSexMachina orgasm-powered]] [[HumongousMecha mecha]] series ''Anime/GenesisOfAquarion'', which started airing on 8 January 2012 as part of the Winter2012Anime lineup.

** Selling pictures of Shrade is a big moneymaker on the girls' side of Neo DEAVA.
** When Kagura sneaks away to explore Neo Kowloon, two girls immediately ignore their initial shock to gush over his good looks.
** Amata's looks didn't go unnoticed by the girls, as evidenced in Episode 8.

* {{Expy}}:
** Kagura, the first major enemy, looks and acts a lot like Apollo.
** Sazanka is a tanned [[Anime/MacrossFrontier Ranka Lee]] (straight off another Kawamori anime) with braids and dark hair, down to sharing [[Creator/MegumiNakajima the same voice actress]]. She even makes Ranka's famous hand gesture at the end of the opening.
** Amongst the forms of Aquarion, Evol is mostly identical to Solar, whilst Gepard is pretty much [[CompositeCharacter all three forms of the Assault-type Aquarion rolled into one]]; likewise, Spada uses aspects of both Mars and Luna.
