Rogue 7: 2000 is setting the bar a bit high, isn't it? It favors comics that update a lot, even if they're younger than others. Has Penny Arcade reached 2000 strips? It's certainly a long runner- the archive dates back to 1998. The same for Megatokyo: it's been running for years, but because of Schedule Slip it's only at something like 1200 plot-comics, more if you count filler.

Silent Hunter: 1000 then?

Captain Timesink: I might argue for a hybrid: 2,000 or ten years, whichever is less (but never fewer than 1,000 comics). I could be persuaded to reduce the former to 1,500 or even 1,000, however.

Rogue 7: 1500 sounds like a decent compromise. I'll look over the two I mentioned plus Ctrl Alt Del and Dominic Deegan to see if they fit.

Much, Much later- After looking at the archives of several comics that I think deserve to be on this list- Megatokyo, Penny Arcade, Ctrl Alt Del, Questionable Content, and Dinosaur Comics, I think that 1000 is an acceptable barrier. And if we want to set a date, a lot seem to have sprung up around 2002.

Rogue 7: Irregular Webcomic put up a list of strips with over 2000 comics. Here it is. College Roomies From Hell Diesel Sweeties Doctor Fun Dragon Tails General Protection Fault Goats Kevin and Kell Real Life Melonpool Narbonic Ozy and Millie Pv P Schlock Mercenary Sinfest Sluggy Freelance Superosity User Friendly

Paul Power: Schlock Mercenary hit 3000 strips today (28th April 2008). Worth a mention?

Mike: Right, I'm not seeing the math on this work out: Sluggy Freelance - daily since 1998. User Friendly - daily since November 17, 1997, and has never missed a day; reached 4000 on 2008 Oct 29. I'll buy the User Friendly one (I moved it up to 4k based on some rough math, but that sounds right), but if that math is accurate, then Sluggy Freelance is probably just in the upper 3,000s, unless it launched right at the start of January of '98.

  • Mike: Since nobody has offered any math to demonstrate otherwise, I've moved Sluggy Freelance down to over 3k. It should to to over 4k sometime in August.
