Inherently funny words launched as Inherently Funny Words: From YKTTW

From YKTTW

Phartman: So I'm not the only one who thinks duck is a funny word... This is getting creepy.

Sci Vo: Did you erase the link to the YKTTW on purpose?

Phartman: We're supposed to leave those things there? Hell, I thought I was tidying up. Sorry.

Sci Vo: No worries, I just like to keep them as a reference for whether a name was chosen by consensus, what examples were suggested, things like that.

Sci Vo: It made sense to me to single out the "oo" words, because there were so many of them, but not too many like the "ck" words. Does that work? Good idea/bad idea? Maybe just point out patterns instead, without grouping words like that? I don't know.

Smapti: Kudos to whoever included "Seattle" on the list. :)

Sikon: Dnepropetrovsk is actually in Ukraine. (And the name doesn't sound funny to a Russian, but that's not the point.) An example of Did Not Do The Research, eh? ^_^

Seven Seals: Dnepropetrovsk was in the USSR when it was immortalized in Tom Lehrer's "Lobachevsky", maybe that's what the original author was thinking of.

Kayube: This reminds me of a Dilbert cartoon in which Dilbert uses a computer program and determines that the funniest words in the world are "chainsaw", "weasel", "prune", and any reference to Gilligans Island. He ends up telling a joke that includes the phrase "So then the Skipper gets attacked by a prune-eating weasel with a chainsaw..." and it doesn't work very well.

Oh yeah! I was thinking of that too! Somebody add it.

Sci Vo: Aha! See? Prune ends in an "oo" sound! By the way, does anyone know why "oooo" isn't funny? I singled it out as an exception after initially adding it as an example because I realized on second thought that it's actually not funny to me, unlike "ooo" and "ooooo". I don't know why that is, though.

Rissa: Maths, probably. "oooo" looks to me like part of a Big "NO!", the others just look like funny noises.

Cassy: I don't get what's funny about the French words, except maybe "poisson." French has words that are way, way funnier.

Coyotic Evil: I was about to say the same about the Spanish examples. All Tropers Are Anglophone? I had also read about Finnish constructs and how long words can get. Any Finn to confirm this?

Sotanaht Alphabetized the celebrities name section, the others already were so i thought it would add some consistency.

ZeldaTheSwordsman I believe the following entry from Skippy's List deserves to be a page quote: 92. When asked to give a few words at a military ceremony “Romper Bomper Stomper Boo” is probably not appropriate.
Mouser: Settle this for me: is the word "rhubarb" inherently funny or only funny in the context of the Portal cake recipe?
