Boobah: Oddly, my first thought was people who do things like play Wing Commander with the -k flag, making the game in question trivial.

Yoshi348: Although I haven't really been into the MMORPG thing and it is of course certainly possible that it's become two different things in different places, when I hear of godmodding it usually to me signifies freeform roleplaying (usually on forums) and the highly disallowed practice therein of having another player's character do something in your post, without waiting for them do have their character do it themselves.

Samael: The first thing that jumped into my mind was when certain members of the Adventure Quest community who insist that their [insert absurdly broken bug exploit of the day] is in fact a strategic device. Being involved in the creation of some of these items, I don't think I'm a scrub if I say otherwise. However, that fact doesn't seem to deter them from continuing to argue what it is my group did or did not intend...

Kendra Kirai: Is it pronounced 'God Mode-r' or 'God Mod-der'? 'cause I've always seen and heard it as 'God Moder'....y'know, 'cause they're playing in God Mode. iddqd, ~ God, and so forth.

Isn't this also a roleplaying term for somebody who uses Dues Ex Machinas and bends things to their inherent favor?

Luc: The intro needs some cleaning up. But yeah, the guy who claims that his bug exploit is a perfectly valid tactic, and whines endlessly when it's patched? This is him.

Mark Z: Sure, and the guy who claims that someone else's legitimate tactic is a bug exploit and whines endlessly for it to be patched? Is this also him? This article is awfully venomous about such an arbitrary category of behavior.

Luc: No, your example is a Scrub. There's a symmetry here, as there is between the Scrub and the "Stop Having Fun" Guy. This is in need of a major rewrite, yes, but it's a valid kind of Fan Dumb.

Looney Toons (wearing his Cutmaster hat): Okay, folks, it sounds like you have a handle on a way to revise this. When I read it initially I was all but ready to hit the Zap button on it, but if you can make it work like this, more power to you. I'll delist this page for the moment and give you time to fix it.

Luc: I've done what I could to make clear that this is a counterpart of the Scrub and the "Stop Having Fun" Guy. It probably still needs cleanup to be much less negative, though. Anybody have any idea of how to rewrite this to fit in with those two?

Mark Z: I'm not getting how it's a "counterpart" to either of them. The second (previously first) sentence places "God Modder" as a type of Scrub and/or Noob. After that, we get "God Modders are the opposite of Scrubs, in that they'll do anything to win, including exploiting bugs." Then "They're different from SHF Gs, because SHF Gs don't exploit bugs (except when they do)." Given that, maybe the term you should be using is "Cheater".

Except that the paragraph after that describes God Modders as using "unorthodox, underhanded, and oftentimes generally sleazy tricks"—that is, not cheating in the strict sense. Then, in a moment of irony, they're described as players who accuse others of cheating. And then as having "lucrative"(?) cracking skills. And then as having no cracking skills at all.

From all that, my sense is that "God Modder" is equivalent to ""Stop Having Fun" Guy, as seen by a hardcore Scrub." If you think there's more to the concept than that, I would suggest that you start by deleting all of the text that was previously here, because it just comes across as whining. (Page history doesn't go back that far, but the style of this page before Luc's edits was oddly similar to Whoring—as is the nature of the whining. Did those have the same author?)

Farseer Lolotea: For a wonderful example of this in action, Google hunter+Garwal+hotfix. Several hunter pets that made far more sense were hotfixed out of tamability (in one case, this was an outright bait-and-switch)...and there wasn't half the outcry over any given one of these than there was over no longer getting to tame a humanoid.

Seth: Hi, my name is Seth and i am a god modder. I have been clean for all of twenty minuets (Since i last played Fallout 2, with max stats, crit chance and the best weapons available in the game)

It is awesome

Kendra Kirai: As soon as I figure out how, I'm going to put up a poll or something on changing this to the PROPER term 'God Moding', as that's how it's spelled and pronounced. Don't believe me? Wiki agrees, even saying that 'Godmodding' is incorrect. I'd leave a redirect here though.
