Persona 5 is 60% off on Steam. Can I play it without having touched anything else in the series?

There is basically nothing in Persona 5 that even connects to previous games, to a fault for long time players. Feel free to go ham.

The mainline Persona games are all mostly self-contained, with maybe a few subtle Call Backs here and there. With the spinoffs like Arena and Q there is more direct crossover.

Enjoy 5, it's my favorite game of all time. Just know that there's a long time commitment and you won't get everything in one go.

I would disagree on that, as long as you don't unnecessarily spend weeks in the batting cages or w/e you can do basically everything notable in P5 Royal. It is the most generous game on that... you just wont get all achievements in 1 run.

Watched a Streamer play P5 as his first Persona game and pull it off rather easily.

It's possible to 100% P5 on your first run. Just don't expect it to be fun.

I did manage to 100% P3R in one run but it required a lot of time management, and it helped that I had played Golden and Royal beforehand.

You know how fanfic writers make novelizations of the games?

Came across a complete one for P3, including The Answer.

Has Fe MC as twin sister.

[up] So, in the fanfic, which twin ends up making a Heroic Sacrifice to stop Nyx and Erebus from meeting and bringing about The Fall: Male!MC, FeMC, or both of them?

Makoto, leaving Kotone behind as the surviving twin. She ends up on Yukari's side when a certain conflict happens

Discar: There's very little story continuity between games, even when there should be. The only time that kind of stuff comes up is in spinoffs such as the Q and Arena games.

One thing I'll never quite forgive Persona 4: Arena for is that Atlus decided that it would be funny to keep the Investigation Team using their Tier 1 Personas while letting the Shadow Ops keep their Tier 2 Personas. This carries over into the Persona 5 spinoffs.

Also, question for the thread: what headcanons do you have for the series?

The problem is the T2 personas for both P4 and P5 are completely optional with the exception of the Mascots.

Also at least for P4's, their personas were more conductive for a fighting game since most were far more human looking.

Making them optional also means you can ignore their Social Links and just rehash their issues again . If they don’t progress then you can just do it again.

Then pretend it totally happens when a week later they’re all in new outfits signifying they’ve totally developed as characters.

And that's the thing — somehow Teddie is back to using Kintoki-Douji when he should be using at least Kamui in Arena. (Ditto for Morgana theoretically using Mercurius in Strikers and Tactica).

(And the spinoffs go with the assumption that you maxed out your party member Social Links in the first place, because what kind of player doesn't try that at the very least?)

Edit: Arena also makes everyone lose brain cells for the sake of giving everyone an excuse to fight each other. At least the P5 spinoffs didn't make the Thieves hold the Conflict Ball. Not to mention that The Answer shows that while the SEES members may have grown up as individuals, that doesn't totally resolve all of their issues.

I remember some handwave thing being suggested that the Investigation Team's Personas have regressed due to them being out of practice, whereas the Shadow Operatives are constantly doing stuff with theirs.

That seems to be an entirely fanmade theory with no official backing. The real reason being Doylist without any Watsonian counterpart is a bit disappointing, but it could be worse I guess.

I've always liked the idea that once you evolve your Persona you can still use the earlier forms if you want, so Yosuke could theoretically switch between Jiraya and Susano'o if he wanted to after unlocking the latter, like a mini-Wild Card.

However, I'm like 99.9% sure that is completely non-canon.

And that's before we factor in the pre-P3 Persona users who operate on a practically different rule set altogether. Atlus not even bothering to explain the change even on a Doylist level is weird to me.

[up] That being said, Rise could switch Himiko to a combat mode in Ultimax and to a "dance stage" in Dancing All Night, so it's not totally unfounded.

Is there any way to change the character name in Persona 5? I gave him a stupid name and regret it.

Change your game's language and it will change the names to the default version, 'Ren Amamiya / the Phantoms', then save and quit. Relaunch the game then change your language back to keep the default name but in your preferred language.

Also on PC you can supposedly change it via Cheat Engine but I have no experience with P5 and Cheat Engine, only with Cold Steel 1 and getting the Japanese only costumes into the game.

I just realized that Persona 3 has two yellow-eyed, actual gun-wielding antagonists in Takaya and The Reaper. Both of them are also not exactly tied into the main plot with Nyx and The Fall.

I feel like there's almost a connection there, but not quite.

The Reaper is unrelated to Takaya. In fact an entire point of Takayas added backstory is that he confronted his Shadow and accepted himself; and THAT is what made him look like that and turned him into a Straw Nihilist as a result.

[up][up] The funny thing is, a reoccurring fan theory (at least on reddit) I heard from people who played through the game blind is they thought Shuji Ikutsuki was secretly going to be Takaya. I don't think he was ever intended to be, but I can understand their logic. Ikutsuki was never in the same place as Takaya, could go into the Dark Hour despite not having a Persona, and was always covered up so we'd never see the tattoos.

[up] Damn, that's interesting.
