Ok it was mentioned there is not a thread for Law Enforcement Officers (LEO for short)and other similar jobs for discussion.
This is for discussing the actual jobs, ranks, training, culture, relations to military bodies that exist, and any other variety of topics that can arise pertaining to the World of Policing.
The story isn't set in a setting advanced enough for drones. Can FLIR see people in thick canopies too?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot yet, but they're working on it.
A British police trainer is found guilty of gross misconduct after cutting earrings off female recruits.
Sounds like he deliberately (and falsely) made them believe he was using bolt cutters.
One trainee had cuts to her ear as a consequence, but it feels like the bigger issue is the culture and creepy attitude behind this.
It reads like a hazing incident.
"Three were unable to remove their earrings, however, and informed him of the fact."
Ok, I thought I was reasonably familiar with women's jewelry, but maybe I'm wrong. What kind of earring can't be removed?
Been an ambush on French LEOs in Rouen after armed gunmen ambushed a prison van to free Mohamed Amra aka the Fly.
The body of a murdered São Paulo Military Police has been found in the city of Guaruja, after a month listed as missing.
Father of the dead LEO says: It is two deaths, of knowing he is dead and the death of hope he is alive.
Forensics also examined the body. Clear signs of torture and facial disfigurement, after the Private Luca Romano Angerami, was kidnapped while off duty, by member of the organized crime and put on a " crime trial", with the motive of the execution being that he is law enforcement.
Luca Romano Angerami was from the 3° BPM/M and he joined the force in 2022, which still gives him the rank Private Second Class which is the rank of recruit.

Police Helicopters are often used for SAR work, and many are now equipped with FLIR units. Omaha, where I live, for example, has Gen 2 FLIR cameras on our Police Helicopters.
Drones are a bit of a mixed bag. You need drones of a specific size to be able to use decent thermal cameras, but if you are going for deep fiction, look to drone swarms that can do rapid grid searches. There are even drones now that can navigate forests on their own.
