Some new details in this interview with Ed Brubaker:
- He's seen early cuts of the episodes. He's not involved in Season 2 due to the strike and his other projects.
- Greg Rucka wrote the second episode of the series, which introduces Renee Montoya.
- The show's tone is closer to PG, though the executives told them they were welcome to push it to PG-13. He warned that it is VERY different from B:TAS and may shock some fans.
Brubaker and Ruka's involvement got me interested. I know they wrote what fans consider some of the best street-level Batman comic stories, especially the series Gotham Central.
And another small update, but according to one of the executives, the show will come out "later this year", whatever that entails.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Is it possible it’ll end up on Adult Swim, the way My Adventures With Superman did?
I think Amazon getting hold of it means it'll just be on their streaming service. Unless Warner works out some kind of deal to get it on cable.
So, these MIGHT be leaked screenshots and character designs for the series, from what appears to be an Amazon survey.
They feature screenshots of the title card, Batman interacting with Alfred, and some action, as well as character sheets for Renee Montoya, Catwoman, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Clayface, Nocturna, Gentleman Ghost, and Onomatopoeia.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Onomatopoeia looks quite dapper.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Alfred's looking a bit more heavyset than I expected. Also, yikes, that burn damage on Two-Face.
That's a pretty unique take on Harley's costume, I'll say that much. Pretty hyped if these are true, especially if it means seeing more of Gentleman Ghost.
Glad they're going back to the Jester look for Harley. I'm fascinated by how they've also made it unique from her classic look via the different colours.
Who's Natalia Knight?
One Strip! One Strip! The civilian name of Nocturna. Timm actually wanted to use her in B:TAS in a story where she's a vampire, but the censors didn't allow it.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Coulda swore I heard that the series was going to CG. Not complaining though.
Man this looks straight up like the og animated series, incredible. Also going really hard with the period aesthetic which does make for a nice throwback with how increasingly tech-advanced Batman has become.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Only thing I'm not really a fan of is the OG Catwoman outfit, but that's mainly because I grew up with the catsuits of later series. I kinda hope she changes to an outfit like that eventually; same with Clayface eventually becoming a mud monster instead of what seems likely to be classic Basil Karlo.
I think that was just an assumption from one of the released images and the press releases emphasizing the "state of the art animation".
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).The series seems to have a golden age aesthetic. I like it.
Also I wonder if it will be a kids show as I recall the show was going to be airing on Cartoon Network until it moved to Amazon. Or something more adult...
Alfred is looking a bit like Poirot, that's fitting in a way.
I'm really digging Clayface's design. Seems to be taking inspiration from Vincent Price's character in House of Wax (1953).
Also, Alfred's design seems to be a throwback to the character's original appearances, where he was much more heavyset compared to his modern designs.
Is it weird brave and the bold have now turned Gentleman Ghost into a batman villain when the two barely interact in the comics
Anyway no complaints from me. Awesome villain and they made him an actual highwayman here
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."x4: I'm pretty sure the show will most likely be TV-PG, in the vein of My Adventures with Superman and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (which also had re-airings on Cartoon Network proper, and originally intended to be simulcasted there in the first place.). It was stressed earlier that Caped Crusader is giving the crew the chance to be "B:TAS without the network restraints" essentially.
x5: We had a storyboarder's resume also confirmed the series is going to be 2D as well. Naturally, the "state-of-the-art animation" statement is still up in the air.
I like the idea behind Gentleman Ghost's revamp, but I don't like that you can see his face. It robs the charm of his design.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Well, turns out those leaked images were probably legit, since they've been removed across Twitter and Reddit due to copyright violations.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesNo Robin in this series as far as we know, correct?
Correct. There's been no word on the Boy Wonder.
