Capcom vs. Memes: New Age of Mutations. ROUND 1! FIGHT!
- IT'S MAHVEL BAYBEE! note IFC Yipes, a Fountain of Memes within the MvC2 community known for his humorously incomprehensible and highly vulgar non sequiturs. MAHVEL (BAYBEE) has gone on to become a Fan Nickname for the series. Shout out those words at a convention, and someone will reply back in the same way.
- MAG-FUCKIN-NETO note Magneto. One of the Four Gods in MvC2.
- OH HE SO PRINGLES, WHERE YO CURLEH' MUSTACHE AT? note "Pringles" either refers to when someone performs a long blockstring, resulting in a lot of chip damage, or when a character gets launched into the air by Magneto because "once you pop (get launched) you can't stop (being comboed)".
- OH HE GOT THE MANGO SENTINEL note There were many modded versions of MvC2 that allowed for some funky alternate color palettes for characters, some of which being the "Mag-Fuckin'-Neto" and "Blue Like Candy" colors featured in both Mahvel Baybee videos. A specific one for Sentinel (another one of the Four Gods) was a distinct orange ("mango") and blue pallete.
- MvC3 ascended this meme: The Mango is one of Sentinel's alternate colors.
- Yo, I think'a Noo Yawk Knicks! note The color scheme of the "Mango Sentinel" is mostly orange and blue. In fact, they're almost the exact same shades of orange and blue that the New York Knicks basketball team used in their logos and team colors, leading to the next few memes.
- FUCK THE KNICKS! FUCK THE KNICKS! note A Call-Back to earlier in the video, where DAT MANGO SENTINEL makes Yipes think of the New York Knicks. Yipes is seen beating that same Sentinel with Magneto at the end of the video.
- Boston rolls over New York 104-59note While using Windows Movie Maker, one of the Idiosyncratic Wipes is a Spinning Newspaper, which was used on that comment. The Boston Celtics used to have a local rivalry with the Knicks, but the Celtics are frequently a much better team; the aforementioned score occurred in 2007, seven months before the Celtics won the championship.
- SCOOPS! SCOOPS! HÃAGEN-DAZS! note Throws are known as scoops. Haagen-Dazs is a brand of ice cream.
- MAKE IT RAIN! note Storm, another one of the Four Gods, using her Ice Storm Hyper.
- MAHVEL BAYBEE! ROUNT 2! HE'S HITTIN' ME WITH THE SICILY, NIGGA! WITH THE MIDDLE O' ITALY! note Yipes is getting kicked/big booted by Sentinel. Sicily is located right in front of the boot-shaped Italy. The comparison isn't lost on Yipes.
- CHA CHA DESMOND! note When Sentinel is in flight mode and spamming kicks, he looks like he's dancing. Desmond is one of the players present in that match.
- That's 90%. Welcome to USA, nigga! note A combo that takes off 90% of your health once you're caught in it. Combos like these (or worse) are par the course in upper-level (tournament) play. Particularly in this example, this refers to the Team Santhrax setup of Storm and Sentinel seen in the video, which was popularized by NYC player Sanford Kelly and adopted through the US tourney scene in general.
- OHHHH! THIS BITCH IS BLUE LIKE CANDY, NIGGA! note The palette used for Storm's costume in the clip contains shades of bright blue and pink that are quite close to the common shades of commercial cotton candy (candy floss).
- BUST THIS BITCH!
- "One more! One more for the gold mine! One more for the-THE FUCK OUTTA HERE NIGGA!!!" note A long Sentinel combo that results in the KO of Storm.
- CRISPY, NIGGA!
- Close yo mouth, son!
- Oops! That nigga said.... "DENIED!" note Storm tries to combo Yipes' Captain Commando assist to death; Yipes' didn't let her.
- BLAOW!
- UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! UNIBEAM! note Iron Man spamming his Unibeam.
- SUPERIOR TECH! note Iron Man's win quote. It's tongue in cheek, since tech/technology in the fighting game community refers to fancy combos.
- JUSTIN WOOOOOOOOOOONG, OH MAH GOOOOOOOOOD!!! OH MAH GOOOOOOOD!!!!! note Justin Wong, during a EVO 2007 MvC2 match, where he's reduced to only Cyclops, up against Magneto, Storm, and Psylocke. He wins. The announcer's reaction is appropriate.
- "SNAPUBAKKURU!!!" note A MvC2 match featuring some very excited commentary, including a Gratuitous Japanese version of "Snapback" (the technique that allows you to knock away one character and force another teammate to take their place).
- And then suddenly, Cyber Akuma! note Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter features a Final Boss who literally pops out of nowhere and then proceeds to murder you.
- Yo you wanna learn how to do a FUCKIN' infinite? LIGHT PUNCH, MEDIUM PUNCH, LIGHT KICK, HEAVY PUNCH!!note A infamous MvC2 video by DjChamploo teaching how to perform Iron Man's infinite using very NSFW language. It's picked up steam within the community for being insanely quoteable.
- M.O.D.O.T.: Mental Organism Designed Only For Trolling note M.O.D.O.K. is seen as a Troll by most of the MvC3 community. The above is a play on his name: Mental Organism Designed Only For Killing.
- M.O.D.O.K. theme goes with trolling. note A variant of the Street Fighter meme "Guile's theme goes with everything".
- If you think I've evolved beyond the joys of X, you'd be wrong! note One of his opening lines.
- SCIENCE! note From his victory line to Rocket Raccoon: "I've defeated a raccoon! SCIENCE!" The randomness of that line is what makes the fad.
- Amaterasu and Thor are God Tier. note When these two were revealed, fans started cracking jokes about their tier status because they were... well, gods (the Japanese goddess of the Sun and the Norse god of thunder, respectively).
- BY ODIN'S BEARD!!! note Thor invoking the name of his father during his Mighty Tornado Hyper; this quote of his has a mishearing (BUY ODIN'S BEER!).
- HAHAHAHAHAHA!! CAPCOM, WELCOME... TO DIE!!! note When Magneto was revealed for MvC3, an old Magneto meme resurfaced...
- Spidey's had a few minor memes since Marvel Super Heroes such as "One for J.J.!" and "Do your job!" (or alternatively, "DO YOUR GODDAMN JOB!"), but the moment it was revealed in MvC3 that he refers to Magneto as "Maggy!" when tagging out, the fans went running with it.
- Amaterasu is a dog! note Hulk shouts "Dog" when he tags in Amaterasu, who's a wolf.
- Whazzup, peeps? This is your Main Man, the lovable, huggable, unkillable Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool (now with 50% more filler!)! Let's stop beating around the bush and say—Yo, Wade Wilson, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Wadey had some of the best meems of all time ('cause there ain't no party like a Deadpool party)! To date (behold the glory that is the D-Man here), my infinitely profound lectures on the meaning of life has given birth to 20 memes and counting. Ha ha ha ha... All your memes are belong to me!
- Arthur and his "Ah, a knight from a foreign land... Huzzah!" (used against Iron Man or Doctor Doom). From that point forward, "Huzzah!" becomes Arthur's Catchphrase. Perhaps this caught on as when he beats Firebrand in Ultimate, he starts by saying "Huzzah!"
- "Too much RAM." note A common response on forums as to why characters are being disconfirmed, based off of the reason that The Human Torch had to be taken out of the game; he... well, ate up too much RAM.
- If YouTube is any indication, Thor's "MIGHTY (verb)" has become a meme.
- Mission Mode in 3 gives us Le-Le-Le-MAXIMUM!!! note In Mission Mode, your character's super bar immediately begins to fill up to maximum, but it charges faster than the announcer can say "Level 2!", "Level 3!", etc., resulting in the aforementioned quote.
- After the announcement of Sentinel, we also have: TEN MORE YEARS!!! note Helped by Sent's trailer, which showed him alongside Storm and Magneto, referencing the ten years of the competitive scene and their kingdom as three of the "Four Gods." Came to be spoken mostly in irony after Ultimate was both announced and released in the very same year.
- Courtesy of Phoenix (pointed out nicely here◊):
The opposing character: "
Damn."
- Also Dark Phoenix related:
"YOU MAY—YOU MAY—YOU MAY—YOU MAY—YOU MAY—BURN INTO FLAME!" note Let's just say that it's easy to spam with Dark Phoenix.
Phoenix: (gets tagged in) "Face me!"
Hulk: "SMASH YOU! GAMMA CRUSH!" (Phoenix gets KOed)
- Courtesy of Super-Skrull:
- From the famous Marn vs. ComboFiend tournament match:
- Spencer's Bionic AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRMM!!!
- And yes, you do have to say it like that.
- Thanks to this incident, Combofiend is respectively referred to as "The Man with the Bionic Plan" and "ComeBACKfiend." Marn gets... "Bionic MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRNNNNN!!!"
- There's also some fans who compare this move with the ever-awesome FALCON PAWNCH!!!
- This video is made even better by the fact that Noel Brown is the one doing the commentary. A little while later we would see his own Bionic Arm.
- OH TEE GEE! note UltraDavid (one of the announcers) screaming OTG (as in Off The Ground) right as Combofiend's Spencer is about to pull off his final Bionic Lancer Hyper and win the match.
- EXCUSE ME! note Same as above, but screamed out by Noel Brown (the other announcer).
- How can he lose? He's got a Bionic AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRMM!!! note One of Spencer's victory quotes, reworded to include to the above Bionic Lancer Hyper.
- In general, the match itself is a Fountain of Memes, most of which pertain to Spencer.
- How much of this beat is bionic? note A dope beat using most of Spencer's quotes from the game. The above quote is a rewording of his intro quote when up against Iron Man ("How much of that suit is bionic?"). Sometimes, the quote just takes the form of "How much of this X is bionic?", which usually goes hand-in-hand with the Combofiend match.
- GO GO WOLV(I)ERANGERS! note Wolvie's theme in MvC3 sounds very similar to the theme song from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. And so begins the Wolverine X Power Rangers jokes like 'Wolverine is some sort of hidden Seventh Ranger' or 'Wolverine gathers his own Power Rangers like Zordon', or any other kinds of jokes you can think of between the two.
- The infamous "Monster" Daigo Umehara's announcement for him joining the MvC3 tournament at the next EVO.
- "Burn to cinders!" note Dormammu's quote before launching his Chaotic Flame Hyper.
- POWER OF THE POWER OF THE POWER OF THE POWER OF THE POWER OF THE POWER OF THE POWER... note Dormammu has a special known as Liberation whose properties change depending on his Power of the Creator and Power of the Destructor specials and how many times he used them (any combination of the two, can be used a maximum of three times before Liberation is automatically activated). Both of these moves chain quickly, meaning they can be canceled out by themselves or each other, leading to the above. Now available in Voice Clip Song form.
- Nemesis' "I AIN'T EVEN MAD" Attack note One of Nemesis' Hyper Combos, the Biohazard Rush, which consists of him doing multiple punches while slowly advancing forward. He can't be shaken off by anything during this, unless you command throw him out of it.
- Galactus' "Much like the Fantastic Four, you are nothing to me" quote has many imitations. Just see YouTube.
- EARTH K.O. note What's shown on the screen should you lose the fight against Galactus in MvC3.
- Him flicking Ryu out in his trailer has also become a meme. "SHORYU-" (flick)
- Shuma-Gorath is working his way up.
- From GameFAQs, Aruket. note One user's horrendously funny mishearing for Ryu's Hadouken in a thread. The community pretty much ran away with it, the topic went on to become a 500 post-long topic charting an inordinate amount of mishearings in fighters. Also produced Shampoo Aruket (i.e. Shinkuu Hadouken).
- In the vein of Guile theme goes with everything and the aforementioned M.O.D.O.K. theme goes with trolling, Ultimate gives us Hawkeye's theme makes anything better. Slowly, but surely, it's working its way up to meme status. note Based off of the aforementioned memes and one of Hawkeye's intro quotes ("Avengers, Defenders, Thunderbolts, I make any team better!").
- "R.I.P. _________" note The blank represents any character that is labeled as SLAIN in the Days of Future Past stage in Ultimate.
- It's a common practice to create mock trailers for characters (either already in the game or on a certain fan's wishlist), usually by swapping in new audio and music and photoshopping in images. The best of these by far is the "real" Sentinel trailer, an apt summation of the various discrepancies between the Sentinel in-game (at first, anyway note Sentinel, though still strong, was quickly nerfed in the early days of vanilla and later dissected by the FGC in the months to come. ) and... just about every other Sentinel in existence ever.
- What is DHC glitch? Tha means you can do a COMBO into anotha COMBO with a super, but that COMBO is not landin any COMBO, but when he knockdown, it still a COMBO. You understand? note Chris Hu tries to explain the infamous DHC glitch, but his English kind of muddles things. If you can read between the lines, his description is fairly accurate, though. It's pretty much the rule of thumb for just about anything that Chris Hu explains.
- HELL NO! WHAT THE FU— note Response to the above, as per the comment delivered as a retort to Chris's "explanation."
- SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! SMILE! note Frank West's camera flash attack, which can hit anywhere, even grounded opponents, and easy to spam. He yells out "SMILE!" every time he does that.
- HADO-DO-DO-DO-DO-DO-DO-KEN! note Ryu's Ren Hadouken move in Ultimate, basically a spammable, short-ranged version of his normal Hadouken. It makes said peculiar sound whenever said move is spammed.
- Wesker's "Mortals are so YOU ARE NOTHING TO ME!" note What Wesker says during his Phantom Dance hyper. The full line is "Mortals are so weak! You are nothing to me!", but the first part gets cut off before he can finish it.
- Or alternatively, misheard as "Mortals will soon... WORTH NOTHING TO ME!!" note Since the "weak part is usually cut off unless the match lagged a little and since Wesker said it in quite a quick speed, it can be interpreted like that and still make sense, especially if you consider Wesker's disdain on normal mortals and his desire to get out from being one and become immortal.
- Wesker's Phantom Dance Hyper Combo is alternatively known as the "Maximum Wesker." note Due to the Phantom Dance's similarities to Spider-Man's Maximum Spider Hyper Combo.
- "The one who actually committed the crime, was you! No alibi, no justice, no dream, no hope! It's time to face for your crimes, TAKE THIS!" K.O. note Phoenix Wright's Badass Boast when he performs his Level 3 Hyper Combo.
- Vergil's lines are rapidly growing popular. Because you must know that he's motivated, and that you absolutely must not get cocky. note Vergil, Dante's elder twin from Devil May Cry (specifically based off of his appearance from 3), has a good deal of noteworthy one-liners. Then again, if you ever played DMC3, then you already know his lines by heart (as they're word-for-word reproductions of his lines there).
- "Might can trollz everything..." note An intentional misinterpretation of "Might controls everything" (an iconic line of Vergil's from DMC3 after your first battle with him).
- "Vergil is not broken, he's lore-accurate." ExplanationOriginally in the Devil May Cry games, any complaints about playable Vergil being a Game-Breaker or Purposely Overpowered in the Special Editions of DMC3, DMC4 and DMC5 get shot down by this commonly copy-pasted joke response, since being powerful is his primary desire/characterization in the lore. Over time, this meme phrase crossed over into Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 by fans trying to justify why Vergil is a High-Tier Scrappy in that game, to the point where this gets commonly copy-pasted in the UMvC3 Steam reviews even up to 2022 onwards. This spread further in 2023 when TheRussianBadger uploaded "LORE ACCURATE VERGIL STOMPS MARVEL FOR $50 AND SOME DRIP", and likewise points out in that video the tendency of Vergil fans saying he's "Lore Accurate".
- Nova has COSMIC SWAG. note Nova, a Cosmic character from the Marvel side and Marvel's answer to Green Lantern, has a very catchy theme.
- THE FINGER LAZ0RS! note In Maximilian's videos for MvC3, the storylines involve Doom being his Lancer. Basically, one of his catch phrases involves yelling "THE FINGER LASERS" when using his Photon Shot special or his Photon Array Hyper.
- He's playing Ikaruga with Morrigan! She's a difficult boss! note Explanation: Morrigan + Fly/un-Fly + Soul Fist (+ Astral Vision + X-Factor) = lots and lots of projectiles.
- And because of how popular Morrigan's becoming in the competitive scene, due in part to her Astral Vision super, she's been known to throwing "Troll" Fists.
- FOOT DIVE!note Doctor Doom's Diving Kick, which can be done at multiple angles, and one of the more powerful tools in the game
- In the vein of the legendary Marn vs. Combofiend match (see above), AG MarlinPie vs AlukardNY from Curleh Mustache 2 seems to be well on its way to memetic status, thanks in part (once again) to the commentary magic of Yipes (Chris Matrix gets in more than a few memorable one-liners of his own, though).
- HOW CAN MAN RAW TAG FOUR TIMES?! note In a very Wombo Combo-esque fashion, Howtoread manages to work a tag-in into his combo four times in a row without missing a beat, much to the consternation of the commentators.
- IIINNNFFEERRNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! note Ever since Alukard popped into the tournament scene and began beasting with Super Skrull, the crowds were cheering this whenever the Hyper was used. Now, in any tournament, if there's a Skrull player using Inferno, you'll probably find at least a small crowd of people screaming this.
- "Rocke-Rocke-Rocket Skaytes!" note A gameplay trailer for Ultimate featured a player constantly spamming Rocket Raccoon's rocket skates in quick succession until the character finally skated into a Hyper Combo and was KOed.
- Happy Birthday: In the event of a botched Assist call, your opponent manages to hit your point character and your Assist. A happy birthday is essentially when both your point character and assist character die in the same combo. This trend was started at Guard Crush in NYC on the Team Sp00ky stream (now referred to as Big Two) when LI Joe managed to get both his characters killed after a failed Assist call. Coincidentally, it was his birthday that day, so as any good FGC Samaritan would do, Sp00ky wished LI Joe a Happy Birthday as he was losing his characters. This caught steam and many more Happy Birthdays happened that night in other high profile matches, officially coining the term "Happy Birthday."
- Zero's number of major wins: Zero or alternatively "Never won a major." note While there are a lot of characters who have yet to win a single major, Zero is considered by many the best character in the game who coincidentally never won a single major/high level tournament. Thanks to this, whenever there is a streamed tournament where Zero did not won, there will be a similar joke regarding this subject. This is especially common in a Character Tiers conversation.
- Because Zero needs a buff. note Zero is already considered by many as the best character in the game. Despite this, he has a lot of tools, and there is a lot of new tech about him that is discovered, leading to the joke.
- Bionic Goat.
- When's Marvel? note This phrase is often used by stream monsters to troll tournaments of other games, as Ultimate MvC3 is the most popular game both among players and viewers, the joke is that everyone came to see it and not whatever else is being streamed instead.
- "ur a faggot." note Said by professional player Chris G on Twitter in response to Mr. Wizard joking about a loss to an unknown player. Of special note is that Chris was playing Vergil and was beaten by a Dante player, making this overlap with the infamous "ur a faget" meme from the DMC fanbase.
- El Squid.note Shuma Gorath is referred to as "the squid" in Spanish thanks to Yipes and Neo's Spanish commentary.
- I wanna take you for a ride...note The catchy yet infinitely repetitive character select music from MvC2. Naturally, it was brought back for the next game.
- Captain SuckAss ExplanationCaptain Commando's "Captain Corridor" move is one of the most powerful and spammable assists in MvC2, leading to him being one of the most used characters in competitive matches... but that's the extent of his usefulness, given that competitive consensus is that Captain Commando just lacks enough power, versatility and mobility to compete with the actual top tiers in the game. Players are known to throw matches when they're left with Captain Commando as their last character.
- Fans seem to be interpreting X being beaten rather easily by Ultron-Sigma in the story trailer as a Take That! towards the Mega Man fanbase, if this tweet is any indication. Then again, given X and Sigma's overall importance to the storyline and the fact that Ultron-Sigma had clearly beaten down the opposition, it was probably not intentional.
- Comparisons◊ between Sigma and Buzz Lightyear. Some fans ended up calling Sigma a Buzz Lightyear "rip-off" or "clone", despite Sigma predating Buzz by about two years.
- Functions vs Functions: Functions of Functions Explanation After a controversial interview about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite came out, a specific blurb asked about the roster choices and the response referred to the reasons for the choices as moveset functions rather than popularity as characters and citing the X-Men as unpopular (Mind you, this was a year after Deadpool (2016) and X-Men: Apocalypse, and the exact same year as Logan). Many fans mocked this response by replacing various Capcom titles with functions. Or replacing characters with generic models that all look identical.
- Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Lite Explanation The game is referred as this in some circles due to the minimalist roster and style which some feel is just a watered down version of the third game.
- "Marvel has historically been bad". ExplanationBased on a thread, written tongue firmly in cheek, on Shoryuken.com's forums regarding how horrendous the series' balance has been — calling them all "bad games" while being loved by the fans, as a way to address worries that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be "a bad game."
- The Shame Box/Punishment Box ExplanationThe Space Infinity Stone imprisons the opponent inside a dimensional box where they cannot move beyond its boundaries and cannot shoot projectiles outside its vicinity.
- Ug-Li ExplanationThe very first footage shown of Infinite with Chun-Li in it had her face looking extremely Off-Model to the point where she was virtually unrecognizable without her Iconic Outfit indicating that it was supposed to be her. Fans were not pleased, to say the least. Fortunately, the Day 1 patch fixed it.
- Methhead Dante ExplanationAnd then Dante was revealed with yet another case of horribly Off-Model facial structure, except this time he looked as though he had been taking copious amounts of drugs, crystal meth being a particularly popular fan theory. Again, fans were not pleased. Not even Hideaki Itsuno nor Reuben Langdon, Dante's voice actor, were pleased. Unlike the above, Dante's face wasn't even fixed.
- It didn't go unnoticed that on the official website, on the page that explains the cinematic story, X's face is completely cut off by the game's trailer. Embittered Mega Man fans have pointed out that this is perfect imagery for Capcom's treatment of the franchise in over the years. It's also been pointed out that it is very reminiscent of how Mike Wazowski was blocked off by the company logo in Monsters, Inc.
- Infinity Eggs ExplanationThe Infinity Stones from the Collector's Edition are infamously bad compared to how they were shown in the official CE picture, looking more like cheap easter eggs than stones. This has led to a lot of jokes about it, and comparisons to the "Estus Flask◊" and flattened Geralt head◊ have shown up in spades. It wouldn't be so bad if the Collector's Edition wasn't $200.00.
- Jedah cucking Thanos. ExplanationThe revelation that the entire storyline of Infinite was all a part of Jedah and Death's united plan, and that Thanos was used by both of them as a tool while Death herself takes more of an interest in Jedah than Thanos. The ending also involves Thanos learning of this and going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Death, like a jilted lover.
- Web Ball! Reality Stone! ExplanationIn Infinite, Spider-Man had a true infinite which involves standing still from a certain distance and throwing out Web Ball and Reality Stone one after another. After it was discovered, many jokes questioning Spidey's status as a hero shown up as a result of being visually unimpressive and how long it takes to kill the opponent. Daily Bugle headlines have also been passed around◊. With the release of the first 3 DLC characters, however, this has been patched out.
- Reality Stone in general. ExplanationThe Reality Stone is the most popularly picked Infinity Stone online due to its ease of use. It grants the user a homing projectile and its Infinity Storm allows the user to call in various elemental hazards. Needless to say, this makes moving around for the person on the receiving end very difficult.
- MVC:I ExplanationMore than one person has noted that, given the fans' reactions and poor sales the game has gotten, even the initials of the game look unimpressed. (To explain, the sideways :I at the end looks like a disappointed emoji.)
- Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is Dead! ExplanationMany fans proclaimed the game to be dead for the longest time. This sentiment was reignited after it was snubbed from EVO 2018.
- The announcer from Capcom vs. SNK 2 is legendary for his commentaries, up there with the one from Street Fighter Alpha 3 in terms of notability.
- "Live and let die! FIGHT!"
- "This battle is about to explode! FIGHT!"
- "This is gonna be a match to remember! FIGHT!"
- "Go for broke! FIGHT!"
- "Wow, they came out with a sneaky surprise attack at the start of the round!"
- "Now that's what we like to call BIG DAMAGE!" note Usually announced after a super, custom combo, or long string of damaging attacks.
- "Finest K.O.!" note Announced after the player either counters a super with a special, counters a special with a Level 3 super, counters a super with another super, or uses a Level 3 to K.O. a taunting opponent. This was changed to "Dramatic K.O.!" in the NA and EU releases.
- "Keep rockin', baby!"
- "Hey, who allowed them to join this tournament? They're way too strong to compete! I mean, what's up with that?"
- This is tuna with bacon... note Mishearing of the song from the London stage in Capcom vs. SNK 2. The actual lyrics are "This is true love we're making." Alternatively misheard as "This is tuna we're bakin'."
- Most of Geese Howard's mastery of the English language in CvS1 and CvS2. His mispronunciations are almost as legendary as Terry's, to Never Live It Down levels. (Geese says more than three or so lines, people. This isn't the only series he's been in, y'know.)
- "I're stain mah hounds, wif your bra!" / "I're paint my house, wif your broder!" note "I'll stain my hands, with your blood."
- "You cannot escape long desk!" note "You cannot escape from death."
- "Your not worth mah descass!" note "You're not worth my disgust."
- "PREDICTABO!" note "Predictable!" (This one is worth special mention because when he reappears in KOF XIV, his trailer is nothing but spamming his counter throws while uttering "PREDICTABO" all the time.
- Speaking of Geese, he's Ratio 6. note The Ratio system in the original Capcom vs. SNK determined how powerful and durable a character was; the higher the number, the stronger the fighter. When fought as a boss in CvS1, you face Geese twice as a Ratio 3 character. Compare this to Akuma, who is only faced once at Ratio 4 (the highest single value possible, which limits the player to only one character, as the Ratio value for any team cannot exceed 4) and Bison, a fellow Ratio 3 character who instead of being fought twice teams up with another Ratio 3 fighter in Balrog.
- Frank West? OH MY GOD! note Frank's shout when a zombie comes barreling down at him in a shopping cart during one of his specials.
- Hailing from the infamously campy English dub of Tatsunoko Production's Tekkaman: The Space Knight, we have SPACE LANCE! and SPACE LARIAT!, turning Tekkaman into a memetic man of space. Also doubles as Fan Nicknames for his Tekka Lancer and Tekka Whip.
- I'M SHORYUCAN'T TOUCH THIS SKILL! note A So Bad, It's Good rap for the training stage (unfortunately, it's only in the JPN version), featuring a punny hook based on the Shoryuken.
- Rise like a dragon! Punch a woman! note Another "line" from the rap. The above link also features images to go along with the lyrics. Guess what one of those stills depicts. The actual line is "Punch 'em, won't miss 'em", but the next, longer line "It's a hurrricane force kick, got the twister, I'll twist em" interrupts it, making the first line sound like "Punch a woman." Which you can do in the game anyway, so it's kind of a moot point.
- "What's a 'Tatsunoko?'" (facepalm) note Barring a few exceptions, most of Tatsunoko Production's work is obscure in the U.S. In fact, some members of the MvC community did not pick up TvC because there weren't any Marvel characters in the game. The facepalm is usually done in response to this.
- "Heihachi, NOW!" note During the footage of the game shown at Comic Con, Ryu called Chun-Li as support. In response, one random Tekken fan yelled this out (it turns out that—at the time of that debut—Nina was Kazuya's partner; Heihachi was later confirmed as playable, but with Kuma as his partner).
- ~Daigo! Daigo!~ note A mishearing from the E3 2011 trailer, mistaking the lyrics "Gotta go! Gotta go!" of Street Drum Corps' "Knock Me Down" for "Daigo! Daigo!" (as in Daigo "THE BEAST" Umehara, the man responsible for EVO Moment #37).
