[up] Not sure if you've gone on to episode 4, but they expand on Kiui's character arc there while relating it to Kano's. It's rather satisfying!

I think ep. 4 was better than the previous two in terms of storytelling, not the level I want to nstill but great anyway. My main complaint with the series so far are the songs. My music tastes may play role here but they are super generic (Ya Boy Konming had a few way more memorable ones for example despite the similar premise and music style). But it is still one of the best shows this season.

Also, it's funny that Mahiru/Yoru seems to be only sane man of the bunch.

I am liking this so far, and the 4th episode was a step back up in the right direction after the preceding two were just good. Liking the characters, loving the facial expression game and enjoying the plot.

Definitely starting to see the show pick up with ep 4 expanding a bit on Kano's own struggles. Looks like it isn't just GIRLS BAND CRY that has the "girls band where the girls have trauma" hook.

[up] Oh, right. Maybe "girls with trauma making music", then?

Not even sure what to call them, a team about making animated MVs?

JELEE is an utaite. IRL most utaite are lone singers who contract the parts they can't do on their own out to freelancers, but that doesn't make for good TV

...They actually function a lot more like a doujin music circle, but we seem to be completely ignoring that scene

Never heard of the term before. Site defines utaite as "doing covers of other songs" though. I think indie music team is a better fit.

That's... not really the best definition. The lack of cover songs would be weird and probably a bad idea IRL, but JELEE is very clearly based on how utaite generally do things— Songs uploaded to video sites, usually with a fairly minimal animation playing, and personally represented as an anime girl

So more like utaite-inspired then

Episode 5: Okay it’s funny that JELEE’s MV went viral because of Kano’s sister’s drunken moans accidentally making it into the song as a ghostly wail hahaha.

A bit torn about the issue tackled with this episode: I was actually impressed with the depiction of Yoru’s impostor syndrome, particularly how she maintains a composed facade and how it takes a lot of things before she got over her hump. I just think the resolution happened too fast; it would have been nice to dwell on it for a bit longer. Also possible I’m spoiled by how GIRLS BAND CRY is handling its own “pain in the ass” character. Still, props to Yoru for stepping up to bat. Her art did visibly improve, which is a nice touch.

Oooooh Kano kissed Yoru on the cheek, and it seems like serious attraction. Yes, yes, yes.

Oh, and this MV is easily my favorite so far. Great theme and backing track. How many more unique EDs does this show have left in its tank?

[up] The new song and MV was indeed more interesting than the previous ones. But I personally like that they did not delve into the whole Yorus inferiority complex drama for too long. I actually hoped she will get a grip of herself after the talk with Kano but it took more than that.

Yuri intensifies but I doubt the studio has balls to actually push it beyond the subtext.

If it was only the kiss, I'd be inclined to agree, but there was also that quiet moment afterwards that dares me to hope the yuri will go past subtext.

I was going to joke about the aquarium visit making it officially yuri, but, uh, looks like they're actually going to be tackling that more directly

Good episode. One of the more nuanced takes I've seen on impostor syndrome and related issues

I don't really care for yuri one way or t he other, but it's pretty this is just more than slightly baity subtext, with both a kiss and a meaningful pause afterwards. While there are series where the fans go wild for girls just being good friends, I would be disappointed if this goes nowhere.

It is just that after Hibike Euphonium anime I am a bit sencetive to yuri-baiting (or "class S" as it is called more politely). I am not the person, who puts yuri-googles every damn time therre are hints but I think you should either go GL or not put heavy enough terase to give any hope. But mainstream audience does not like GL, they only like subtext and so unless the anime is explicitely marketed as GL, studios 99% of time do not go for it later.

Latest episode: Loved the focus on Yoru's imposter syndrome, adds a super nice touch to her character.

I was completely blindsided by the kiss! I thought it was going to be some sort of gag, but with the way Kano looked at Yoru afterwards, I'm not sure. At this point the show could really do just about anything with these two.

Very funny to see all the online spaces I'm in go feral over this episode lol

So, the indy idol they hijacked in the first episode turned out to be a single mom struggling to gain popularity as an idol. And yep, she is 31 and has a junior school daughter.

That was a pretty heartwarming episode overall and served as a foil to Kanos relationships with her own mother.

The kiss from last episode was not totally forgotren but seeems like Yoru is not taking it seriously. At least for now.

Episode 6: Again, a bit rushed, but it’s a real cute sidestory. I hope we see Shizue again as a more popular idol, haha.

I like that they brought up the kiss again. Yoru’s playing it off but Kano is definitely flustered. Please don’t let it end at teasing! Show the gumption you had when you decided to be the impromptu opening act! Which Kano killed, by the way.

Ep 6 At first, I wasn't a fan of Miiko, but the more that we got to learn about her story, and especially about Ariel, I came to appreciate her a lot more. Fitting episode for Mother's Day lol

Oh COME on, surely we get more hints than just Yoru being teasing! I really wish we could go into a bit more depth about Kano's background, especially with her own mom.

Felt a bit quick, but great episode nonetheless.

That reminded me a little of the single mom in Aquatope to be honest.

[up] This one at least did not clash with MC tyhat much and was more eccentric.
