Side conversation: did anyone else feel a little bait-and-switched when Emberthal doesn't choose a Visage form in the latest side quest? I'm not saying it's not a valid choice, just that the build-up leads to a bit of an anticlimax.

I think this is the first time an expansion happens because of the actions of a single character class specialization.

Old God worshippers Shadow priests were a mistake.

Silence! You don't know what the sweet whispers of the void feel like. They can't hear her. They don't know her sweet promises, the beautiful secrets she reveals to me...

Xal'atath, as a sentient weapon, would of likely found a different weilder during the events of Shadowlands. She always had a will of her own and just because one path might of been closed to her doesn't mean she wouldn't have found a different way.

Besides, I'd say the big turning point is when she was freed from the dagger, and everyone got to do that questline.

Without Xal'atath being freed from the dagger, we wouldn't have defeated N'zoth. It's not a linear, binary situation.

I've seen a lot of chatter in light of the new short story speculating that in Midnight Rebuilt Silvermoon City will be a faction neutral city and I can't help but think that's a really cool bit of story progression, though it would be a major blow to players who are fans of the Horde rather than the setting as a whole.

I’m just happy we got Draenei focus.

The fact that we can't visit opposing faction capitals right now is really the result of Gameplay and Story Segregation.

There's no rational canonical reason why my Dwarf can't visit, for example Thunder Bluff. I've worked with Baine directly multiple times including saving him from super hell and the Alliance and Horde haven't been in a war footing for over half a decade. The Thunder Bluff guards should be asking my character what they are doing in Thunder Bluff, not trying to kill them on sight.

Silvermoon, if it does become a neutral city gameplay wise, is still going to be the Capital of the Blood Elves in lore and the Alliance presence will likely have explicit permission from the Sin'dori leadership. The Alliance will likely (correctly) see the crisis in Quel'thelas as something that will spread across all of Azeroth and may of already started to do so, and the Sin'dori see the situation as dire enough that they aren't going to turn down any sincere assistance.

But of course all of that assumes that Silvermoon is the capital, and it may not be. There's a lot about Midnight that we don't know and a big one is how are they going to expand on the two small-ish (by modern standards) zones to make a full expansion.

I think that open faction cities would be a definite improvement to the gameplay and story integration for WoW. That said, I'm trying to avoid story spoilers for two expansions in the future.

Of course, the PvP folks will probably still want a way to kill opposing faction leaders. Perhaps War Mode turns faction capitals hostile to each other again?

I started some work on the recap page for Shadowlands but I got as far as the player getting into Bastion when I realized... I remember basically nothing of the levelling experience, because I only ever did it once and then did Threads of Fate for all of my alts. Might need some help with that.

I had the misfortune of not knowing that mechanic and almost did the leveling experience four times over just to get to the part where you pick your covenant for story purposes. There's little I remember about it now though.
