60 Minutes report on Tehran targeting pro-dissident journalists. Iran International was targeted by Tehran, so they had to uproot from London to DC because the Met can't provide protection 24/7.
News from the Reporters Without Borders: after photo of a freelance photographer with a Hamas leader was found making the rounds on the 'net, Defence Minister Benny Gantz claimed on The Site Formerly Known As Twitter that journalists knew about the massacre and "(are) no different than terrorists and should be treated as such", sentiments echoed by member of Parliament Danny Danon.
This comes on the heels of at least 36 journalists having been killed in Gaza bombings since the start of the war, which is against international law and constitutes a war crime.
Meanwhile, the Israeli parliament ammended a terrorism law on November 7th, which now sentences up to a year in prison anyone who "systematically and continuously consumes terrorist publications", which in turn are defined as "a direct call to commit an act of terrorism" or "words of praise, sympathy or encouragement for an act of terrorism"
A very vague definition, seeing as publications like Al Jazeera count as propaganda under it.
The article is a few days old but I only found out about this recently so I thought it was still worth sharing.
I'm still new so I'm not entirely aware of the rules of etiquette on this on these forums.
Please remember that criticism of the moderation is unwelcome and should not be done in view of others.Crossposted from the Privacy topic:
Summary of the article by disclose: France, Italy, Finland, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, and Sweden aim to undermine the first European law aimed at protecting freedom and independence of media in Europe. According to documents obtained by Disclose, in partnership with Investigate Europe and Follow the Money, these seven countries actively advocate for authorizing surveillance of journalists in the name of “national security”.
I'm not crazy, just creatively different.Pro-war journalist Alexander Rybin (Russian) was found dead after he's trying to investigate corruption in the rebuilding of Mariupol.
Rybin was suppose to show his findings on news platform Rabkor. Instead, his corpse was found on a ditch.
So, I was accepted into a graduate journalism program at a university near where I live. I had my first class today, a practicum. I'm really looking forward to this, I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
Radio Free Europe is not allowed to do work in Russia anymore. They're being called "an undesirable organization".
Random musing.
I find it amusing how so many Trump supporters think that American "liberals" and "leftists" are getting their news and are brainwashed by CNN and MSNBC.
I personally NEVER watched/read the latter and stopping doing the same for the former many years ago. Honestly, nowadays my primary sources of news include Associated Press, Reuters, BBC (except on topics related to LGBTQ+), etc.
I'm pretty sure it's mostly their projection.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. It's absolutely projection. Especially since CNN and MSNBC aren't leftist.
There really isn't any leftist equivalent of FOX News in mainstream USA media.

Disgusted, but not surprisedPurposeful projection and a general lack of empathy.

Old article.
Onuki Tomoko, formerly with the Mainichi Shimbun, was recruited by the Joong Ang Ilbo. She's the first Japanese person to be recruited by the South Korean newspaper. From what I've been told, she's still working from Japan to serve as the correspondent. JAI has a Japanese language page.
Hey Ominae was wondering if you had any thoughts on Jake Adelstein?
I just learned about them the other day and they seemed to be up your alley so to speak.
I spoke to Jake a few times (online though at the time 'cause of COVID). He's very knowledgable on the yakuza since he lived in Japan for a long time. Jake's known to have good connection with Japanese LEOs and the yakuzas.
Of course, it doesn't hurt to double check on things to make sure his info is accurate.
Hearing that Tel Aviv is ordering Al Jazeera to stop their work in Israel. There has been complaints of their reporting to be biased against Israel.

French journalist arrested for reporting on Egypt spy operation
The article specified that Ariane Lavrilleux's home was searched and she was arrested for questioning by agents of the DGSI (which is France's domestic intelligence agency, akin to NSA). I believe the authorities mentioned it was classified info.
In other news (in french only, but a quick summary)
Journalists from the Liberation journal are under interrogation by the police
After some articles exposed the murder of Amine Leknoun by the police, the journalists Ismaël Halissat, Fabien Leboucq and Antoine Schirer were summoned by the criminal brigade of Lille for "reveal of secret of instruction" and libel against an authority figure. Liberation exposed in those articles that the IGPN (which is commonly called "the police of police") and the magistrate were doing malpratice during the investigation of the murder of Amine.
Those events were only two days apart from one another.
I'm not crazy, just creatively different.
