A real argument can be made that Kiryu should have died after the end of 6. With that in mind I'm more that prepared for the character dying if it happens.

...It does really seem to be Kiryu's real swam song.

Especially if you pair him with the Aquanut class.

Jokes aside, this trailer made me kinda emotional, and I'd be super okay if this really is the end of Kiryu (bar pulling him out of the morgue). I think it also addresses another part of Yakuza 6 that people really didn't like: for it being a "grand finale" of Kiryu's story, it kinda sidelined every other classic character for a new cast, leaving it a bit of a waste for characters to react to his death. This time, we get so many classic characters returning, reconnect, and reunite in a devastating way with the old dragon.

Re this; just watched the trailer, and yeah, it sounds much better imo.

Jesus, I've never the played the games outside of Yakuza: LAD (only seeing stuff on You Tube and this site, but man, if Kiryu is really kick the bucket in IW, I'm gonna loose it.

I know that Like a Dragon tends to save the goofiest stuff for the substories, but I like to joke that Kiryu will probably be cured of cancer by the end of the game. He'll wonder how it happened, and then the camera pans over to Majima dressed up as a surgeon.

Of course, when asked if Majima actually knows how to operate, his answer will be "You for real!? How the fuck should I know how this tangly-ass rainbow shit works!? But we gotta handle it, so I'm here, puttin' my instincts to work."

Man, this game's really bringing back everyone from the past games huh? Really make it feel like the end of this story... and now I'm hoping to get one final showdown with Jo Amon assuming he didn't canonically get omae wa mou shindeiru'd in Lost Paradise

(Also... if nothing else I have a feeling Kiryu will survive just by the fact that Premium Adventure is a thing in these games? Unless they noncanonically "revive" him for the purposes of that mode or something but that would feel... kinda weird? Sure they did it for Rikiya in Y3 but doing the same with one of the protags would feel different)

So, The Man Who Erased His Name just got its English dub released yesterday.

And listening to it, Yong Yea does provide a good performance here and there, although his voice tone does get a bit incosistent from time to time, but he does provide a voice that at times feels like it channels Kuroda's Kiryu in a mostly good way.

Okay, so I’m gonna try and get the new game this weekend, but first, am I gonna need to play the Gaiden game to understand the plot? Whoever gets to it first let me know.

Been spending most of these past days playing Infinite Wealth, here's some (non-story-spoilery) thoughts on the game so far (currently on chapter 7):

  • while I didn't have much of an issue with Y:LaD's battle gameplay, I'm noticing improvements here from what I remember, it just feels... better? idk
  • they really went all out with the Sujimon stuff here! What was a substory with a Pokedex joke in Y:LaD got further developed into a whole Affectionate Parody minigame with setting up a party, raids, trainers... seeing this stuff makes me think there were some Pokemon fans on the dev team who had a great time coming up with all the reference, as a Pokemon fan I can tell there was clearly a lot of love put into it
  • holy hell this game is MASSIVE, especially if you're like me and like fully exploring and completing all the side content. There's so much stuff to do it almost gets overwhelming (but in a good way!) Dondoko Island in particular feels like it's more or less gonna be a whole game in its own right, though I haven't gotten very far yet
  • kind of a pain you still have to travel to a specific place to change jobs (couldn't they just let you do that through an app? sure, in-universe it's a changing room to represent the different outfits for different jobs but still) but at least there are several locations spread around the city so it's not just one single building
  • my PS4 started struggling around chapter... 6 or so? getting occasional choppy framerates, though outside of this, it ran fine, and there didn't seem to be more stuff than usual going on on-screen/in-game, so may just be a case of having it open for hours and hours at a time idk
  • the new jobs are fun so far! still have several to unlock though

Overall, I love the game and am very happy with it so far! Can't wait to discover the rest (I haven't even gotten to Kiryu's content like the bucket list/memoirs, I just know some of that stuff is gonna get real emotional...)

[up] (also to answer your question, not really - I don't know for sure how much of Gaiden's plot will be explained throughout the game but going by what's happened so far you'll probably get the gist of the most important stuff, Gaiden always seemed like more of an "optional" game anyway)

The sub, like usual

To add on to my earlier post, I really like the concept of Bond Bingos! I've always liked finding random trivia about characters - likes and dislikes, habits and quirks, memorable events from their lives, stuff that's not really relevant to the plot but lets you know more about the character as a person. The bond bingo is a cute idea and I'm really enjoying filling it out as I walk through the city x3

The dub is very good, far better than 7.

Yongyea's Kiryu is different but still good.

So I reached the part where you can collect Kiryu's memories and they actually reference Kenzan and Ishin too, as dreams that Kiryu had, briefly making him wonder if these could be past-life memories. Thought that was pretty funny

Originally asked at the "is this an example thread" but decided to ask here for clarity:

Found this Characters.Yakuza Like A Dragon The Heroes Of Tomorrow

  • What the Hell, Hero?: He gives a much-needed reality check to Ichiban after having had enough of the latter's inability to understand what it means to be homeless.
Nanba: Do you seriously think we're all here because we want to be?!
Ichiban: Nah, you said everyone has their reasons and I get that, man. But you still gotta try, don't you?! Better than living like this! A little effort can land you a job, even if you have a criminal record!
    Ichiban: Why not?
Nanba: First of all, only a few of us have criminal records. Most of us didn't do anything wrong.
    Ichiban: Then why...?
Nanba: For some, all they did was co-sign a bad loan. Others worked hard for their families, who abandoned them when they couldn't pay the bills. Nobody lives this way by choice. This isn't somewhere you choose to be, it's somewhere you end up. Do you know what that's like? To end up that broken?
    Ichiban: ...
Nanba: And some of us have families who are out there looking for us. Parents and kids hoping we'll come back. And for as much as some of us would love to go back, we can't! Not when we're still so broken! And you think you can fix that with a quick trip to Hello Work? They get back on the grid, then all the problems and enemies from their old lives are gonna pop right back up. Did you ever think of that?! You think we're just too lazy to work? We all want a job and a living, man. But we can't just erase all the things that keep us from having them! So it might not look like much to you, but they're trying!

Large quote possibly being unnesscary aside, it should be worth noting Ichiban didn't really do anything bad at this scene. At worst, he is being Innocently Insensitive in regards to a very serious issue. Plus, it ignores that Ichiban himself was raised as lower-class (being raised by a bunch of brothel employees and the other people at a Red Light District).

[up]Yeah, I'm not seeing that as What the Hell, Hero?, especially since Ichiban is, at worst, being somewhat naive and insensitive. It's more Nanba telling Ichiban how the circumstances of the homeless aren't as simple as Ichiban thinks, and less him going off on Ichiban for being unheroic or heinous.

So I'm at chapter 8 and I certainly did not expect Amon this early in the main story? And even weirder and potentially concerning, this is Jo Amon but he's using Shin Amon's model... is this just a simple model reuse or is there something else going on here? 🤔 Even weirder considering none of the Amons have changed their basic looks since Y3 (unless you count Kazuya's hair getting lighter in Kiwami 2... and Jo wearing a hat in 0 I guess)

...Which also makes me wonder if the Millennium Tower postgame boss in Y:LAD was supposed to be Shin or Jo... he also used Shin's model from Judgment so it was presumed to be him, but he was only ever referred to as "Amon" with no first name, so it could go either way... he was also on much friendlier terms with Kiryu than I'd expect Jo to ever be?

man i'm just worried about one of my favorite characters tbh. they better keep Shin as a separate character

For what its worth, there's an Amon in Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise as well. He's just called "Amon" but he's clearly using Jo Amon's Kiwami 1 model so I guess it wasn't that big a deal. OTOH Amon actually explicitly dies in that game.

Oh yeah, I know of that (and always assumed that was meant to be Jo, though likely with his death there being non-canon to the main series), the issue is more that they used the model of a different existing character for the character referred to and presented as Jo Amon, the same character Kiryu had fought a bunch of times, with no real explanation for this. Hopefully this will be explained in the "actual" (as in, non-tutorial) Amon fight

[up]I don't think that the actual Amon fight comments on Jo having Shin's model. I've seen speculation that there might have been some sort of mix-up regarding which Amon model to use, but so far there doesn't seem to be an actual explanation yet.

You know, without delving too deep into spoiler territory, I really appreciate how Kiryu's arc in Infinite Wealth is basically about him facing that his perpetual self-sacrificing and inability to truly commit to things is the root cause of most of his problems, and that he needs to learn thats its okay to accept help from others and that its okay for him to just...live
